This revised version of the Tahoe has its good points, but the SUV remains a big hulk that handles clumsily and thirsts for gasoline. On the upside, it delivers readily available power, rides pretty well, its cavernous cabin stays quiet and it offers generous second-row seating. The six-speed automatic transmission also brings some improvement in acceleration and fuel economy. Towing heavy loads is another forte.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"The car is a no compromise hybrid. It rides, accelerates, tows, and hauls the entire family like the 6.0 liter V8 that it is, yet still manages 21 mpg in the city. I managed only 12 mpg in my old suburban doing the same routes. 21 mpg may not blow away anyone comparing it to a Prius, but this car is way more capable than a small sedan and gets a 75% improvement in gas mileage compared to the last car I owned that had the same capabilities."

Anonymous, FL (2011 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"Changing from one gear to another is sluggish. Sometimes it seems the transmission doesn't know where it wants to go. Handling is fine."

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"Excellent acceleration for "on-ramps" and passing on country roads. Steering good. Pulls 5,000 lb trailer at 70 MPH well."

Anonymous, TX (2011 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"it's just a great highway auto for the long drive"
