This revised version of the Tahoe has its good points, but the SUV remains a big hulk that handles clumsily and thirsts for gasoline. On the upside, it delivers readily available power, rides pretty well, its cavernous cabin stays quiet and it offers generous second-row seating. The six-speed automatic transmission also brings some improvement in acceleration and fuel economy. Towing heavy loads is another forte.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 420,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2019 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"Running lights require partial removal of fender liner to replace bulb. Terrible! design. Older Tahoe much easier to change bulb. Bad design (not new) giving frequent bulb failures."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3-L V8)

"Day running lights constantly out and needed replacement."

Anonymous, ON (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 5.3-L V8)
Headlights

"Routine bulb burnout on running lights"

Anonymous, WY (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LS 5.3-L V8)
Interior lights

"The top light comes on intermittently when the brakes or turn signals are applied. The dealer claimed it could not duplicate the problem, even though I took the service technician for a ride to show him and he definitely saw the problem. The technician claimed he could not see the problem, but it only happens when you are actually driving and the technician never drove the vehicle and thus did not fix it."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3-L V8)
Keyless entry

"Security system does not arm properly. Many times after setting the security system and leaving the car about 10 minutes the alarm goes off. Dealer does no seem to want to attempt to trouble shoot, repair, or call in factory tech. Been to two dealers first one said they updated soft ware in module, still had problem."

H K., PA (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3-L V8)

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Parking brake

"To apply parking brake take a certain amount of pressure. To release the brake it take considerably more pressure. This caused the brake to go to the floor and would not release"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 5.3-L V8)
Pulsation or vibration

"When purchased, took it off lot, drove at 60 mph, and used brakes, there was a very bad vibration, shaking, and unsteady steering. We took it back to dealer, they accused us of misusing the brakes. We stood our ground, and they replaced the whole brake system."

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3-L V8)
Rotors

"Had to have replaced every 11000 miles because of warping"

Albert D., NJ (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LS 5.3-L V8)

"Both front and back disc brake rotors warped. My not be the vehicle's fault entirely as I tow a boat in the summer months. So, in fairness they are stopping more than just the vehicle. However, since it is a truck-based SUV and a full-size one at that, I kind of expected the brakes to be heavier-duty than they seem to be."

John S., MO (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 5.3-L V8)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"Water enters the left back door and the weep holes are clogged. I have to continually blow them open"

Michael G., MS (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 5.3-L V8)

"water leaked in around tailgate window area during heavy rain or car wash."

Stephen D., IL (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3-L V8)
Wind noise

"Wind noise from both front windows. Dealer replaced seals on both windows while still under warranty. Within about 12 months, window noise on both windows came back"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3-L V8)

"At highway speeds, wind noise is pronounced coming from the windshield area. Dealer found nothing wrong, when issue brought to their attention while vehicle was under warranty"

Anonymous, MD (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 5.3-L V8)

Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Electronic or air suspension

"The compressor went out - not completely just the exhaust portion of it - the dealership is unable to fix that small problem and needed to replace the $800 compressor to eliminate the problem (Bunch of bulls...)"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 5.3-L V8)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"Problem with fluid circulation caused automatic transmission to not shift"

Patricia C., WY (2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LS 5.3-L V8)

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.
