Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Power steering leaks

"Power Steering leaks fluid, Chevy tells me it will take a whole steering system replacement, the cost is over $2500. Not covered by drive train warrantee"

Patrick P., MN (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)
Power steering pumps and hoses

"the power steering unit was replaced, but it was covered under warranty"

Anonymous, WI (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Rack was leaking power steering fluid into boots. Replacement rack and pump quoted at over $3000 but dealer dropped estimate by $2000 when I mentioned that I was intending on calling Chevrolet zone office. This item was noticed when replacing front brake pads due to normal wear."

Anonymous, IL (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Power steering became intermittent at 75k. Took to Chevy, needs new pump, racknpinion-$2100. I bought the ext warranty from the same dealer, but told ps not covered.Chevy finally agreed to replace faulty system on older models, 2012 still not covered"

Doug K., MO (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)
Shocks or struts

"Rear shock bushings worn. Replaced shocks"

Munro R., ON (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"the tires were rotated and because the car was jacked up it caused the struts to extend and not retract. The car rode like it had no suspension and then the struts were replaced and it corrected the issue."

Anonymous, OH (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)

"Left strut was leaking and was repaired under warranty"

Anonymous, NY (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

Anonymous, CA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)

"Noise when making sharp right turns"

Anonymous, MO (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)

"I took the car to a dealer for an oil change and was told the brakes were worn, the rotors had de-laminated and the rack and pinion had a leak. This to me is strange on a car with this mileage. The rack and pinion alone was $1,900. The service manager later told me the are replacing the rack and pinion at the rate of 1 to 2 per week. This I thought was strange. I purchased this car from my lady friend and I have driven it since new. I thought it strange that the rotor should de-laminate at"

Theodore B., NY (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Rack and pinion components had to be replaced. Cabin noisy and there is some hesitation in the response for acceleration."

John G., FL (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)

Anonymous, VA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)

"This car is a piece of junk. I purchased an extended warranty and within days of the expiration. The rack and pinion failed. The dealer wanted $2,000 to repair and no guarantee other repairs would be needed. Never buying a GM car again"

Anonymous, IL (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)

"Sometimes when I turned there would be a "thug, thug, thug" sound. It had done this since I purchased it in January. I had it in for several other minor issues but the techs could never mimic it. Finally I had the tech get in the SUV with me and w"

Richard B., MI (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Leak found in PS system during inspection/service at 60000 miles. Necessitated a $2400 repair job that included a new rack"

David F., PA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)
Steering wheel vibration

"This is the first time in my 73 years that I have encountered a rack and pinion going bad on a car I owned. The fluid level dropped and the steering was vibrating at speed. We love the Traverse but were a bit disappointed this required a substantial repair."

Dennis K., WI (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"The vibration was what caused us to take it in for the work the was done on the power steering rack assembly. Total cost was $1925"

Anonymous, VA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)
Tire wear is uneven

"The car is falling apart. I needed new tires before 75,000 miles. Of course the tires are special and cost $250-$300 a piece, not including all the little charges they hit you with like stems, balancing, tire disposal etc"

Anonymous, WA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)

"Rear A/C and heat are completely gone. Although the parts are inexpensive, it is labor intensive to repair. They have to pull out the rear seats and interior panels to get to it. Both heat and air gone at same time seems strange. Blower works fine."

Anonymous, WV (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)

"It doesn't hold a charge well and hisses"

Anonymous, (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)
Automatic climate control

"HVAC system, the system decides when I can use the AC portion. This is dangerous. I needed AC on lower then hot temperatures to defog my windshield. I needed to change the dew point and could not do this. Instead my windshield fogged up inside the car instantly like a car built in the 50's & 60's. I was at 50 mph! My friend quickly undid his seatbelt (another safety issue) and wiped my side of the windshield with his bare hand so I could see to drive! Yet another issue with HVAC. I ca"

"Blowers on passenger side of car stopped working. Replaced behind dash actuator -- cost about $280"

Marian H., IL (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Second time an actuator has gone out. This time I replaced it myself for $60 in parts instead of a $200 repair (dealer)."

Munro R., ON (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"It takes too long to heat the car, especially the floor area in the winter."

Anonymous, UT (2012 Chevrolet Traverse Unsure 3.6-L V6)

"Our passenger side hvac vents only produced hot air. This repair was called "common" by the GM service department representative, plus the repair parts were in-stock (but not covered by warranty @ 40,000 miles), so why did the repair cost us $352.00?"

Kurt S., WI (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)
Blower (fan) motor

"Air door actuator failure"

Anonymous, CA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)

"Blower motor seems weak. Works on all speed settings, but just seem anemic. Problem is not worth the expense of a visit to the dealer."

Kerrie H., MT (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Some times you have to hit the blower motor box under the glove box to start it working."

Christopher M., IL (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LS 3.6-L V6)
Evaporator

"A/C is no longer working. Only suspect the evaporator at this time. It is a 2 day job to remove the entire dashboard to replace, and that is more than I can afford at this time."

Munro R., ON (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)
Heater system

"Defrost not working properly, windows fog and will not defrost. Broken actuator to change vents"

Anonymous, OH (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

Jarett M., VA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)
Refrigerant leaks

"AC would not cool. Took to shop. They added freon"

Patricia J., IL (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)

Anonymous, IN (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Slow leak. Deal believes it is because the car is only driven 6 months a year"

David C., IL (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LTZ 3.6-L V6)

"Air conditioner stopped cooling and I had to crack the window."

Rosie G., MS (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

"Possible slow leak, dealer added refrigerant and dye and all is good for last 2 months."

Anonymous, PA (2012 Chevrolet Traverse LT 3.6-L V6)

A BIG truck is 1/4 mile away, it's safe to go right? NOT IN MY TRAVERSE! These cars need a recall to be fixed. I wonder how many have been killed because of this KNOWN flaw?
