Owner Reports

Worse Better
Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Road Test

Going back as far as 1984 with the debut of the Dodge Caravan, Chrysler ruled the minivan roost for many years. But the march of time proved challenging, as knockoffs from Honda and Toyota surpassed the original. With the Pacifica, Chrysler is back with a vengeance. Packing style, a roomy and versatile interior, and high levels of technology, the latest Chrysler minivan is a more compelling vehicle than the lackluster model it replaces. In terms of driving dynamics and functionality, it’s now every bit as good as the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna.

Despite the shrinking audience for minivans and the reality that three-row SUVs have become common family staples, nothing beats a minivan for pure out-and-out room, versatility, and family-friendly functionality.

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.

What Owners Say

Antifreeze leaks

"The check engine light came on after the car had about 100 miles on it, and and car intermittently went into turtle (aka limp) mode with speed limited to 45mph. It turns out a cooling clamp at the coolant pump was not tightened properly at the factory and much of the coolant had leaked out into the underside of the car. Because the bottom of the car is completely sealed, it accumulated there without any visible evidence of a leak. The car went into limp mode when the transmission or maybe the battery got too hot (the engine rarely turns on). The dealer assured me that no permanent damage was done (I'm holding them to that). I still sometimes get a left-over coolant smell when parked which they told me might persist for a while despite power-washing and steam-cleaning the underside of the panel. However: I have had no other problems with the car and I'm still thrilled with the car's performance and infotainment systems: out of the 1139 miles, I've driven 969 on battery power and rarely use the engine. Still, it makes me a bit leery of FCA's quality and I did purchase a bumper-to-bumper extended 8 year/120,000 mile warranty from my credit union just in case for more than $1000 below what the dealer wanted for just 60,000 miles."

Uwe B., TX (2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

What Owners Say

Engine knock or ping

"At idle, the engine shakes, shudders and makes a noise after idling for a time. We have taken into dealership for diagnosis and repair but reason unknown.
