Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Still, despite some notable features, they didn’t rise to the level needed to compete against better models from Japan and South Korea. We tested the high-end Town & Country Limited. Safety features added with this model include standard stability control and curtain airbags. The ride has also been improved. Inside, the cabin is better finished and the rear windows now roll down. A new option package includes rear seats that swivel to face the third row. But braking and handling performance have dropped, and acceleration and fuel economy are unimpressive. A blind spot detection system is available and is a great find if you run across it.

"Since i bought the car 3500 miles. Started to get vibration when i applied the brakes. I was away on vacation. But When I got back I took it to Central Ave Chrysler. They replaced the rotors and pads. But I continued to have trouble and after got an extended warranty on the brakes from Chrysler. The problem was never resolved. I changed the rotors several times myself and pads until i found some that lasted a bit longer than Chrysler's. But not as long as it should have. I also had transmission trouble. I should have gotten rid of it, But I liked the size for moving things. the transmission used to have a little gap when I stopped at a light sometimes. It finally started burning tranny fluid, Chrysler replaced it at no cost. It's having those transmission problems again."

Anonymous, NY (2008 Chrysler Town & Country Touring 3.8-L V6)

"The brakes on this vehicle wear out very quickly. The shops that I have talked to say that it is a common problem with these vehicles of this year. The brakes are very small and aren't really designed to stop a vehicle that big and heavy. The pads are way too small for the weight of the vehicle."

"Of the problems I have had, the brakes fail, or ware out every 2 years"

Tim H., MI (2008 Chrysler Town & Country Touring 3.8-L V6)

Woodrow F., NY (2008 Chrysler Town & Country Touring 3.8-L V6)

Internet is loaded with hundreds of complaints about Chrysler Town and country brakes. Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.

What Owners Say

Antifreeze leaks

"I have an issue with a plastic part that sends anti-freeze/coolant to the air climate system of the car; there are two zones; front and back. The plastic y-fitting could not handle the heat and burst. It is a common issue with chryslers; and could be remedied if chrysler used a quality metal fitting. Fortunately, my mechanic devised a brass plumbing t-fitting to replace it; and it will never happen again. The other issue with the cooling system is that the sides of the radiator are made of cheap plastic; which bursts over time."
