Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Antilock system (ABS)

"idiot lights lit up on long trip, an area mechanic couldn't identify problem, my home mechanic deemed it ABS issue and repaired. ~$450 dollars"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan)
Calipers

"They were frozen and caused the premature break wear and rotor wear so bad they had to be replaced"

Matthew B., (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

"calipers locked causing rotors to overheat also wheel bearing on that wheel faiiled"

Anonymous, MD (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"left caliper locked up"

Daniel F., FL (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)
Normal routine brake wear

"Had to replace front brake pads and rotors."

William L., IN (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)

"car started to pull to the riight and made a grinding noise."

Anonymous, MN (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)
Premature brake wear

"Dodge will not admit that the brakes are a real problem on these models, however in doing research I found that the parts all have identifying part numbers that show REVISIONS to the design. The latest set of brakes(Calipers) were revision #3 and are doing better than the previous ones. I found these all out through a friendly Dodge parts manager who will deny ever telling me about it. A private garage really ripped me off by putting in original design (version 1) calipers which failed within 2000 miles. They wanted to charge me to do the job over. I went back to the Dodge dealer, talked to the parts guy, had them replace every brake part with the latest version and all is well, for now. Never again will I own an American made car!"

Anonymous, NJ (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

"Needed to replace front brake pads 2x within 10,000 miles. Rear brakes not wearing evenly since van was purchased."

Michael B., PA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8-L V6)

"Brake system is a known design flaw that is not been correctly addressed by Dodge. After several trips to the dealer for repair I finally replaced brakes with aftermarket system and corrected the problem"

John W., CA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 4.0-L V6)

"Rotors have to be replaced EVERY time brakes are done"

Anonymous, NJ (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3-L V6)

"Bad calipers caused premature brake wear"

Matthew B., (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

"During the 9 years I've had the van, the brakes have had to be redone 3 times"

Anonymous, ON (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)

"Front breaks wear out at very low kilometers"

William M., ON (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.3-L V6)

"Since brand new the brakes ware down excessively fast. I do not ride the brake nor come up quick on a red light and slam on the brakes. This past year it cost $1,300.00 to rebuild the brakes. New rotors pads and parking brake assembly due to it being frozen. These brake are WAY UNDER Engineered for the weight of the vehicle"

Wayne S., NJ (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

"brakes wear twice as fast as any other vehicle I have owned"

Anonymous, PA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8-L V6)

"Warped rotors almost on a yearly basis which cause vibration . Brake pad wear every 20 to 25K. Even with more expensive pads the rotors warp. Once you have to replace them you may as well complete the total brake job"

Anonymous, ON (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT)

"On a trip out of town, the rear rotors and pads failed & had to be replaced. The Dealer said the guide pins had corroded. It may well have been more of a case of lack of use, than product defect"

Anonymous, MI (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8-L V6)
Pulsation or vibration

"Brakes pulsed when applied at slow speed. Problem was repaired with replacement of a sensor."

Charles C., MO (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8-L V6)
Rotors

"Original rotors had factory recall, dealer replaced with new rotors. These new rotors were worse than the originals, they wore out quickly, layers of metal peeling off surface. Now off any wty, I had to pay for newer 3rd set. 3rd set also wore out, heavy rusting. I had to pay for 4th set, which I bought from non-Dodge source, and dealer agreed to install, as dealer was installing new calipers, which failed by sticking, done under wty."

Patrick C., WI (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.3-L V6)

"I have replaced the Rotors on this vehicle twice. For a vehicle that only has 105,000 miles I think that is excessive. I am a good driver and don't ride my breaks and have heard from mechanics that this vehicle is notorious for this problem"

Susan P., WA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8-L V6)

"Brakes wear out too fast"

Anonymous, NJ (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3-L V6)

"I believe the size of the rotors are inadequate for the weight of the vehicle. Rotors continually warp. I had to try an after market brand with slots for cooling. Seems to be holding up."

Anonymous, CT (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8-L V6)

"Rotor was overheated and scored because caliper froze."

Anonymous, MD (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Aftermarket rotors installed on front twice in one year"

Kevin H., WV (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 4.0-L V6)

"As in my previous description of premature brake failure, the rotors warp causing pad wear and expensive repair"

Wayne S., NJ (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

"bearing going bad on front hubs"

Anonymous, KY (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)
Squeaking

"The breaking system has been an issue with this vehicle from the start. There has been at least one recall and I have had to replace the breaking components 4 times since 2008. This vehicle is not used in a manner that would warrent this type of wear"

Anonymous, TX (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 4.0-L V6)

Randall F., CA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)

"Clear coat failing on roof. Hood will be next to go. Shop says the rest of the paint is in good shape. Looking at about $1,800 to repaint hood, bumper and roof."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)

"Passenger sliding door, rear hatch"

Anonymous, PA (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)

"Left Rear Quarter panel rusted thru, from inside panel, due to white foam sound deadening foam padding, which retains moisture. Caused rust-thru from inside sealed panel. I had to pay for panel replacement body work, for cut out and weld in of new panel. Worried that Right Rear panel, and maybe 4 doors may show same rust-thru, from inside, and I cannot tell or prevent, I can only watch and replace if-when it shows up outside as rusted paint and metal failure."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

"transmission shift with a pronounced jerk and noise. I was rebuilt under warrantee. Reprogramed several times. In the last two years the van was taken to the dealer twice to determine if the rough shifting was transmission failure or linkage problem. I was told the transmission was ok and the rough shifting and noise was due to bushing and linkage wear. I DON'T BELIEVE THE DEALER AND CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY A THIRD TIME FOR A NON DEALER SERVICE ASSESSMENT. I 'll continue to drive the van till failur"
