Ford's Expedition EL is a huge SUV capable of carrying nine passengers, their luggage and still tow a heavy trailer. For the most part, the EL succeeds. It has a roomy third-row seat, it handles reasonably well, and it accelerates strongly while towing our 5,000-pound test trailer. However, the Expedition's ride is stiff, it gets low fuel economy and the engine frequently sounds coarse and strained.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Pros: Expy can FLY! It's easy to get up to speed and she's quiet while doing so. She takes corners like a champ and considering the size, quite nimble. Pretty good on off-road 4WD roads although we don't go on the roughest trails because Expy is on the big side."

Mary C., CO (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Quick and responsive acceleration and steering. Great maneuverability in parking lots and traffic."

Craig G., WY (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Drive,acceleration great,handling is very good."

Anonymous, AZ (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Was in the left lane of a highway passing a stake body truck overloaded with bales of hay. He started to pull into my lane....I had to swerve hard and quickly and was extremely impressed with how well the car handled. Saved me from an accident or possible rollover."

DOROTHEA M., AZ (2008 Ford Expedition)

"I like the large engine and the acceleration it provides-no issues merging into traffic"

DAVID B., TX (2008 Ford Expedition)

"This vehicle handles well in all weather types. I do not have to worry about it and how safe it is compared to other vehicles."

JIM M., CO (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Very slow acceleration, too much shifting on the open road"

Anonymous, OK (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Ford Expedition has comfortable seating for either seven or eight passengers depending on seat configuration. The 3rd row seat is best in class. The vehicle is very capable pulling my 5,000 lbs boat"

Wayne J., TX (2008 Ford Expedition)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"I take long trips in the car and don't get fatigued. On board navigation is very useful in my work."

J B., OK (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Seats rather comfortable, but electronic adjustments prone to failure"

Thomas S., FL (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Pro: I love the view and vision from this vehicle and the ability to adjust seats high and low and to nearly recline. Expy has plenty of room for adults in the back and seats are comfortable. Love the fact that the back seat people can adjust their climate independently of the driver and shotgun rider. It rides very well and feels solid. It's both a great road vehicle and an off-road baby as well. Con: The vehicle has a few plastic rattles that are a challenge to track down and fix. It's used as an off-road vehicle as well as a long trip vehicle so these little rattles can be very distracting."

Mary C., CO (2008 Ford Expedition)

"The seats are uncomfortable, can be noisy with the wrong tires, the ride is normal for being a large vehicle."

Dennis L., WI (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Easy to adjust driver seat. Adjustable/fold down mid and rear seats."

Craig G., WY (2008 Ford Expedition)

"It's like sitting on your living room couch"

Robert B., FL (2008 Ford Expedition)

"The seats are great; cooling and heating is a very nice feature especially when traveling as much as we do."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Ford Expedition)

"Handles a family of six plus two Saint Bernards."

Anonymous, PA (2008 Ford Expedition)

KENNETH B., FL (2008 Ford Expedition)

Anonymous, NV (2008 Ford Expedition)

TOM B., OK (2008 Ford Expedition)

"The overall comfort of the seats is lacking, especially on long trips. The padding in the seat is an issue."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Ford Expedition)

What Owners Say

"Great dependable, versitile family car that has held up well."

BRIAN S., TX (2008 Ford Expedition)

Anonymous, PR (2008 Ford Expedition)

"We got a good price and have driven the wheels off it still going."

TOM B., OK (2008 Ford Expedition)

"A very comfortable ride and very clear view of surroundings. I waited until the end-of year sale and saved $6,000 off the sticker. I have not had any required maintenance (other than normal service) that was not covered by the warranty. Very cost effective!"

"the paint is falling off and Ford will NOT repair an obvious defect!"
