In the plus-size SUV arena, the Expedition EL is the only other mainstream game in town to the popular Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Yukon XL twins. While the Expedition was freshened for 2015, it is still vastly outdated and outclassed compared to the competition.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It's acceleration is exceptional! And it gets better gas mileage than other full size SUVs!"

Kit T., UT (2017 Ford Expedition)

"The slip differential system defaults to on. So, if it senses loss of control by any of the tires, power ceases to the tires. Living on a gravel driveway, this is really annoying because it frequently happens. I would like the option of changing this default setting."

Anonymous, OR (2017 Ford Expedition)

"This oversized dog and passenger carrier has an unexpected surge of power whenever you need it. Passing or moving off the line are made safer and responsive by the power train."

Robert T., AZ (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Handles amazing for it's size!"

Ralph J., CA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"I was hesitant to only have a 6-cylinder engine, but I have been very pleased with its acceleration with the turbo boosters. It handles very well for its size. Parking is made easier by alerts in the back and front. Backing up is easy with mirrors and camera, including the ability to change the rear camera to a "hitch" view."

Benjamin P., FL (2017 Ford Expedition)

"room in cab and good engine to weight ratio"

James P., GA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"When shifting from reverse to drive, there is a lag when trying to accelerate. Bogs down before finally acceleration. Not a handling issue but not listed as a category: front obstruction warning system. It goes off randomly when nothing in front of vehicle or coming to a stop behind another vehicle with 10+ feet of clearance. It beeps several times and stops beeping. Taken back to dealer under warranty but they could not figure out how to stop it. Having to endure the random beeping constantly and dealer can't fix."

Dennis W., TX (2017 Ford Expedition)

"excellent acceleration and handling. Heavy duty towing equipment perform very well."

Lewis J., FL (2017 Ford Expedition)

"very good power, excellent handling, good mileage for the weight of the vehicle with a ton of safety features."

Lee R., MI (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Very good acceleration, it's hard to imagine that a V6 can move a vehicle this heavy so quick."

Doug S., TX (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Tows 2 jet skis or 25 ft boat with no problem. The new eco-boost engine has the same or better acceleration as the V8 I had on last Expedition."

Richard H., FL (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Very smooth ride with excellent acceleration and braking. Very good towing vehicle."

Mary S., LA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"V6 is peppy and all the power you would need. Transmission, 10 speed, is just ok."

David J., TN (2017 Ford Expedition)

"When pulling a 6500 lb load from the Midwest to South Carolina with a bit too much weight on the xxxxxx , The vehicle was great, easy to control on long downhills and had plenty of power going up the mountain even with the v-6 engine"

Mike F., SC (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Good handling and acceleration. Low road noise."

Lyle O., WA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"The Expedition has excellent acceleration but handles like the truck that it is."

Patricia K., IL (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Ecoboost power with acceptable MPG"

George L., MT (2017 Ford Expedition)

"The ECO-Boost engine is amazing! Great acceleration with good gas mileage. 20-21 on the freeway."

Anonymous, OR (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Acceleration is outstanding for such a large vehicle (we have the extended length version). Even with six individuals aboard, merging into traffic is no problem; the engine never sounds strained. We especially like the fact that we do not have to buy premium fuel as is the case with other large SUVs. The steering is precise and car-like. This vehicle replaced a beloved Ford Excursion; the Expedition will easily out accelerate that V-8 equipped SUV."

Dean S., SC (2017 Ford Expedition)

"great acceleration, power and control compared to competition, Suburban and Tahoe"

Anonymous, MI (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Strong acceleration, smooth shifting, excellent suspension for a truck."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"This truck was purchased primarily to tow our camper which it does very well. The 3.5 EcoBoost engine's performance exceeds that of my former 5.4 V8 in all respects."

Charles S., VA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"We are using it to pull a 30 foot Airstream and it has good hauling capabilities. Strong Ecoboost engine."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Ford Expedition)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The seat leather is soft and comfortable. Ride noise is minimal. The driver selected ride comfort level is very nice and makes a noticeable difference."

Benjamin P., FL (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Comfort is excellent in this car. The seats and the ride are fantastic on long road trips- air conditioned seats rule. Plenty of power and the adjustable suspension is very comfortable."

Christian S., KS (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Plenty of room for 4 to take a trip with all our luggage and purchases on the road. Comfortable seats, and quiet. Even stays cool in 105 degree heat with rear A/C."

Clayton N., TX (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Very good ride and handling. Like the 4 wheel drive activation"

Pierre B., TN (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Air conditioned seat are great when you get in a hot car. Seats are very comfortable for long rides. Handles well in mountain roads"

Richard H., FL (2017 Ford Expedition)

"It is very comfortable and rides beautifully but the cooling fan for the radiator is extremely loud in hot weather, so much that if you thru a drive thru you have to turn off the engine so they can hear you."

Doug S., TX (2017 Ford Expedition)

"It's very comfortable and the handling is excellent for such a large SUV. Also it is quiet."

Anonymous, OR (2017 Ford Expedition)

"The Expedition if very comfortable. For a full size SUV it doesn't feel that big and it has a tight turning radius which makes it easy to park. The only problem is with excessive wind noise around the doors."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"The 2017 Expedition is clearly superior in ride and handling due to its independent rear suspension. The Ecoboost engine is quiet but very powerful; the Expedition accelerates quickly. The heated and cooled seats are very nice and comfortable although I would like to see the bottom cushion extend further forward since I am tall. The ride is composed and quiet; we also test drove a GMC Yukon but found the Expedition to be much better in many ways."

Dean S., SC (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Very comfortable seating. Adjustable heated and cooled seats. Very smooth and quiet ride. Great highway cruiser with enough luxury and features to make it a pleasure to ride in."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Comfortable, spacious seating. Low noise. Very good ride."

Christopher V., NH (2017 Ford Expedition)

"We bought this SUV primarily to pull our Airstream trailer. We find the towing package , capabilities and driving comfort of this vehicle to be excellent. There is lots to learn about the vehicle, and we are still mastering all of it’s remarkable features."

Mary S., LA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"It's quiet, amazingly."

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Ford Expedition)

"you can barely get your hand on the side of the drivers seat to adjust the controls and i am not a big person, its ridiculous how tight it is."

Larry A., SD (2017 Ford Expedition)

"very comfortable ride and very nice heated and cooled seats"

Lee R., MI (2017 Ford Expedition)

David J., TN (2017 Ford Expedition)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Great price"

Ron H., NC (2017 Ford Expedition)

"We compared the expedition el to the yukon xl and found roughly a $15k difference between the two vehicles similarly equipped. Platinum trim vs Denali. I thought the difference in engines, a turbo 6 vs the 8, would be more noticeable- but they feel very close. We find value in the expedition- although we have noticed the resale values favor the Yukon XL, but those are still outside of the initial spread ($15-20k). Anyway- we like me the choice."

Christian S., KS (2017 Ford Expedition)

"This superseded model is top of class for all day comfortable travel, very quiet ride, stable accurate tracking and handling. Great power, fine economy and strong brakes."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Ford Expedition)

"i purchased the vehicle at the end of the season. I paid the same amount that I paid for my 2011 Expedition, with additional options."

Paula M., GA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Drives great and good cargo capacity."

Lyle O., WA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"Got an xlnt end-of-year deal."

Ralph J., CA (2017 Ford Expedition)

"This is a great value fully $10,,000 less than I had expected to pay"

Mike F., SC (2017 Ford Expedition)

"It was being heavily discounted in March 2107 and I got a very good price for the vehicle."

Christopher V., NH (2017 Ford Expedition)
