Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Antilock system (ABS)

"Wasn't driving the truck that much, and being parked a lot caused it to have problems. Mechanic told us to drive it at least once every couple of weeks to keep this from happening."

Barbara H., OR (2006 Ford F-250 XLT 5.4-L V8)

"On a road trip some kind of sensor failed which caused the the system to turn off"

Edwin W., WA (2006 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"The antilock system became in operative so we had is replaced or repaired. Probably a routine problem based on the total miles."

Anonymous, (2006 Ford F-250 XLT 5.4-L V8)
Calipers

"I have had to replace all of the calipers on the truck due to leaking brake fluid out of the pistons. all of them went out within a year of eachother. it is a older truck however I have had much older vehicles that have never needed calipers."

Philip P., FL (2006 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"Calipers froze up due to slave cylinders"

Anonymous, TX (2006 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"Calipers all around keep locking up. I'm on my 4th complete set of calipers. Mechanics claim it is a design flaw. Ford will not acknowledge the problem and issue a recall with a redesign."

Barry W., MI (2006 Ford F-250 XLT 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"Right rear caliper stuck causing wheel to begin smoking. Several months later the left rear one did the same thing"

Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

Emission control devices (includes EGR)

"started having a steam mixture out of tail pipe. Looked like a lot of white smoke."

Randy R., CO (2006 Ford F-250 King Ranch 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"Stuck egr valve at 36000 miles. It was coked up. Shouldn’t be happening. My research shows the whole emissions design on this diesel is very poor and problematic, unreliable and prone to failures. The coke problem at the egr is just the start. Replacing the egr is just a patch. In fact I kelt the original and cleaned the coke off in an hour soaking in carb cleaner. The chamber and pathway must also be coked up but you can only clean what you can see at the egr opening. Not good. In addition l learned that the exhaust gas gets cooled via an interchanger exposing antifreeze to this gas to cool it down. This interchanger is prone to failure causing antifreeze to leak in the engine. This leak causes other failures which are catastrophic. This system can also cause flow issues which can cause antifreeze to boil at a location not near the coolant sensor which can break down and “chalk” the antifreeze. This coats the coolant passages as well as an internal coolant to engine oil intercooler that then fails as well. Three should be a recall and permanent fix for this. Third parties are offering bypass solutions as a fix. This eliminates the whole emissions reduction system!"

Anonymous, IL (2006 Ford F-250 King Ranch 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"The warning light illuminates under a load and will not reset until approximately 500 miles have been driven. Numerous dealership repair issues have not resolved the problem."

Anonymous, CA (2006 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"The EGR went bad 5-6 times since purchase, clogging up at blowing black smoke and loss of power. We have finally got it running since early 2014 and have not had a problem since then"

Lisa C., VA (2006 Ford F-250 King Ranch 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"Problem started several months ago, have been to 3 mechanics. Final recommendation is to replace the engine. Problem is in the timing, spark plugs checked, filters replaced. Truck is now stalling when not moving. In the past, it cost $1100 to have spark plugs replaced. Ford Motor Company refunded $400."

Christopher H., WA (2006 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.0-L V8 diesel)
Turbo or supercharger

"Turbo started to wine very loud. Ford replaced something and it was fixed."

Anonymous, VA (2006 Ford F-250 XLT 6.0-L V8 diesel)

"Replaced factory turbo in April 2007. Have had issues with the EGR valve and EGR coolers in past. I now add 4 ounces of Motorcraft Cetane Boost to every fill up and the EGR problem has been reduced significantly. When I pull hills (Rockies) my check engine light comes on from time to time. I plug my scan tool in and the codes come back as a boost problem. After identifying the problem, I clear the code. I can still drive the vehicle without any problem. The system could be beginning to clog up again with particulates creating this. I need to take it to my mechanic. The truck operates fine."
