The Mustang GT does more than go fast in a straight line. Agile handling and good brakes, a tolerable ride and comfortable seats, easy access and a good view out all contribute to a satisfyingly enjoyable drive. It doesn't hurt that the V8 is a hell-raiser that sounds great and the six-speed manual has short throws and an easy shift action.

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Ford Mustang owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"My Mustang is a convertible. It had a body seam leak near the top of the trunk area. It actually started before my warranty was up. The dealer could not find the leak. This year the floor was awash with water. It took six days and $700 to find the leak, dry out the carpet and put the interior back together. The dealer gave me a rental plus fix the lumbar support. It's a great car and my second Mustang convertible."

Anonymous, WA (2014 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"Water leaks from the cowl area. Ford designed with a small rubber drain that clogs and caused water to flow into the floorboard. Also leaks at the door window seals when it rains and fills up door. Had to remove the rubber stops at the bottom of the doors so this water will drain."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)

"During rainfall water came into the passenger side seating area and floor. Never really solved the problem."

Anonymous, OK (2014 Ford Mustang Unsure 3.7-L V6)

Charles S., CA (2014 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"I frequently listen to music off of a flash drive. The Mustang's audio system cannot always handle the flash drive interface properly. For example, when I turn on the motor, it will often switch from the Aux (i.e. flash drive) function to the Radio function. Also, sometimes it refuses to play the flash drive at all"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

Robert G., ON (2014 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)
Routine software updates

"Updates to Sync system were discontinued, and final update (which I had hoped would resolve iPhone issues) made things worse. Ford advertised that owners could apply updates themselves at no charge, but that failed multiple times. Dealer was able to apply the Sync update at a cost of approx $100. Had I know it would make things worse: 1) Music playbook problematic (pauses between songs, randomly disconnects via USB & bluetooth) 2) Microphone for speakerphone appears to no longer pick up voice, though it works for other sync commands."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Mustang Base 3.7-L V6)

"Control in steering wheel for sound system, phone, bluetooth defective"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-L V8)
