The redesign's rakish silhouette also provided a sleeker, sportier appearance. The look is modern, yet true to the Mustang's Americana roots. Interior quality and ambiance are improved immensely as well.

"When I initially bought the car, the A/C was working wonderfully. About 9000 or so miles into the car, I noticed that the A/C was no longer functioning. After having the refrigerant refilled due to a crack (so I was told), that had to be repeated 3 more times. Finally the dealer replaced most of the system across two more visits. It mostly worked, but required two more tuneup visits to get max performance (replacing a small valve or piece here and there). After about 9 total visits on the topic, it works pretty well, but has never felt the same as it did at the beginning and there is nothing else that the mechanics can I identify to do."

Refrigerant leaks

"I started having problems with losing refrigerant about a year ago. The AC system has been inspected and worked on/recharged once, and inspected/recharged two other times without finding the exact location of the leak. I suspect that the leak is in the evaporator. I purchased an electronic halogen detector and it detected evidence of a leak in the AC vents when the AC was operating. Due to the high cost to remove the dash and other myriad parts to access the evaporator for replacement, I have purchased and installed an AC system stop leak to try and increase the service life of the system. So far it seems to be working as hoped. The halogen detector no longer indicates the presence of refrigerant in the air output of the vents. Of course, this is an interim fix, I'm sure the problem will resurface in time."

The Mustang does not have under seat AC ducts. Thus the thermal electric cooling units overheat and often heat rather than cool the seats"

"There is small plastic pad on the clutch pedal arm that must come in contact with, and depress, a switch when you step on the clutch in order to start the car. This is a common safety feature. We currently own 3 vehicles with clutches. After many years the plastic pad crumbles and falls off and the vehicle won't start because the switch isn't being depressed. This pad has failed on all three of our vehicles. For just a few dollars I was able to purchase just the pad for my 2001 Xterra and 2009 Civic Si. Ford requires replacement of the entire clutch arm assembly! $250 for the part plus $250 labor. I called customer service at Fords corporate headquarters to be sure I was getting accurate information from the dealers service department and was told the clutch arm assembly is manufactured by others, and provided to Ford as a unit. Ford doesn't sell just the replacement pads! The Mustang pad crumbled at about 3 years old. My Xterra pad failed after about 10 years and the Civic pad after 9 years. The service dept at Nissan has the pads in stock. I bought the replacement for the Civic at Napa. I refused to replace the entire clutch arm assembly on the Mustang. Napa didn't have anything that would fit so I used a dense felt chair leg pad. To add insult to injury, the brake arm assembly has the same pad/switch system and the plastic pad on the brake arm failed not long after the clutch pad. When that happened the brake lights stayed on constantly. I used a felt pad to replace the pad on the brake arm."

"I bought this car for my now 21 yr old son. He was living in Austin and 2 days before he was to leave to move to Atlanta it started smoking. He took it to the Ford dealer and was told that he needed a new turbo and a new evaporator for the AC. He was also told the cost for the turbo and labor was $10000 and cost +labor for the evaporator was $3000. He was told on Thursday the car would be ready on Tuesday. U-haul had already been reserved for Sat. and his sister was available to drive one of the vehicles. He searched for and found a cheap flight from Atlanta to Austin for the following Sat. giving four extra days for the dealer to make repairs. They called him the first of the week to tell him a part needed to install the turbo was on back order and would not be available until the first of the month- about 10 more days.The part did in-fact come in on the first and was immediately repaired. He picked the car up that morning (Friday). That evening He filled up with gas put the car in reverse and everything locked up. He could not go forward or backward. He called Ford and they sent out a tech who told him he only unlocked doors. He had to wait over an hour for that tech and almost three hours for a tow truck. The dealer that had had the car was not open on Sat so he had the tow truck take it to the next closest dealer whose service dept was open on Sat. The following day the transmission tech looked at it and apparently fixed it in about 30 seconds for no charge. If something that can totally disable a car can be repaired in such a short time, Ford should send out a recall or tell people how to repair it. The only thing good about all was that when I bought the car I did something I never do-bought an extended warranty for two thousand dollars. My reasoning was his age and consequently his inability to pay and the very high cost of every little computer. In this case $100.00 deductible paid a thirteen thousand dollar repair bill. It did not pay for the lost two weeks for my son while he should have been in Atlanta looking for a job or the savings he used up flying back to Austin plus the expenses incurred while there."
