What do you give the iconic Ford Mustang for its 50th birthday redesign? Lots and lots of presents. Ford provided its quinquagenarian pony car with the equivalent of a heart transplant and a hip replacement. It added a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to the lineup and replaced its creaky solid-axle rear suspension with an independent multilink design. What does that mean?

What Owners Say

"It is a blast to drive. It's very fast and handles like a car built for the track. Plus, it is very easy to drive and has great visibility for a fastback roof line. I compared it to the Dodge Challenger and the Camaro before buying and my Mustang GT is a far better car than either of them."

MICHAEL B., TX (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Got the 5.0L V8 GT, love the power on demand. Steering and handling are suburb! Due for a speeding ticket any day now!"

Anonymous, MI (2016 Ford Mustang)

"This car is illegally fun to drive. It has "cutouts" in the exhaust that can be activated with a switch on the dashboard that gives it a fantastic growl, especially when you wind it to it's 8250 RPM redline. Acceleration is awesome (though my old '07 GT500 had much more torque). Handling is the best I've ever experienced. The steering is extremely precise, but there's a downside to that. Freeways develop grooves (or pathways, maybe) over time, and also over time, lane markings change as the"

MIKE S., WA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Acceleration and handling are excellent"

MICHAEL D., CA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"this car has great engine / exhaust sound and the acceleration to go with that. Almost scary"

JOHN N., TN (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Accelerates well in 2d, 3d, 4th gears. Slow at first gear. Shifting is clunky. Handles really well; inspires confidence in driving. Solid on the road."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Ford Mustang)

"I have a Shelby GT350. The handling and acceleration are spectacular! I've had it on the track twice now, and that is the only way to fully explore its capabilities safely."

PATRICK H., CO (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Flat plane engine. Great on the track. Goes like stink"

Anonymous, TX (2016 Ford Mustang)

Test conducted with cruise control engaged and air conditioning on. The 2.3l EcoBoost is a fantastic piece of engineering!"

KEITH B., GA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"435 hp and 25 mpg -- wow!!!"

JIM H., VA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The acceleration is out of this world! Handling is on mountain roads is great, stays firmly planted at all times. Never feels like it's out of control. Steering is very good."

Michael B., BC (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Very responsive in acceleration and steering Looks Good"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The 4 cylinder Ecoboost is a remarkable match to this vehicle. It will out-accelerate a comparable 8 cylinder, while giving (I expect) twice the gas mileage. Ford did a great job of tuning the exhaust."

Anonymous, MD (2016 Ford Mustang)

"It's fun to drive and has plenty of acceleration upon entering a busy freeway or passing on highways."

Charles P., VA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"It is a blast to drive. Acceleration is awesome and handling is superb. I was a hotrodder in my youth and this car reminds me of that fun time in my life."

"Great acceleration, sharp handling, excellent gearshifter"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Ford has done a great job on styling and performance. 526 HP yet 23 mph on the highway. This is a performance car, not designed to be quiet or soft riding. Put the peddle down and it puts you back in the seat, turn the wheel and it goes where you point the front. Love it."

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"For the money, this is a great sports car. Feels like a bigger car, but handles like a much more expensive car. Seats are comfortable, but have some road noise, but not more than you would expect with a convertible. For people that don't like opening the top, they ought to get a big Buick."

Walker B., SC (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Surprised at comfort of seats and lack of outside noise, even with a convertible."

Thomas M., AZ (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The backs of seats have no separate adjustments to them."

Anonymous, IL (2016 Ford Mustang)

"No option on material of seats for the V-6. Would be nice to have had some choice. Glad I got the electric driver's seat adjustment option. Wish passenger's seat could be adjusted because it sits very low. Climate control seems to work well and the car is pretty quiet on the road. The ride is stable and secure."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Transmission makes an annoying rattling noise. Ford says it's normal.I don't believe noise should be considered normal. I asked to see a factory rep, they refused."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Ford Mustang)

"great car would suggest purchase to people of my age"

T G., TX (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The Ricaro seats are miserable. Narrow and hard. Would definitely not purchase with the track package. No dealer (7) where we looked had that package in the showroom for us to try those seats prior to purchasing. The passenger seat has no way to elevate - only forwrd and back. Can't see out the windshield in the passenger seat."

Anonymous, NV (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The 2015 vehicle was bought back by Ford Motor Company for inability to rectify a vibration and noise at 51 mph. They replaced it with a NEW 2016 model, which ended up doing the same thing. Florida Lemon Law is forcing them to buy it back. I am in negotiations now."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Very comfortable seating. Ride is very smooth but I find myself leaning into the turns at high speed. Being a convertible there is road noise although it is relatively quiet on those few occasions that I have the top up."

D P., TX (2016 Ford Mustang)

"For a sports car, the seats and ride are very comfortable. For a convertible, noise is OK."

Anonymous, SC (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Ricarro Seats are HARD, UNCOMFORTABLE AND NARROW. I'm only 5'5" at 150 lbs. The seat is too small and uncomfortable for me. Have to add a cushion to ride more than ten minutes. This option cames with the Track Pkg option. Buyer beware if you have a fat butt or are a large person. Manual adjustment only for the driver seat. None for the passenger. Passenger sits so low that the hood is not visible. Consider the more expensive option or replace the seats."

Anonymous, NV (2016 Ford Mustang)

"I don't think the ride has improved from my 2011. doesn't seem any quieter. the steering is very touchy. I have hit bottom a few times-I think it sits lower then my old one (too low) the seats do hold me in good-I like that. I like the vinyl top on my old one much better then the cloth top on the 2016."

Robert N., MI (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Quite satisfied with this car The ride is somewhat to stiff for me. I am 91 and should expect it to be. Do miss my Avalon though"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Great seat control, plenty of room, good lumbar. Visibility is good"

Edward H., TX (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The passenger seat ought to be a power seat standard. It's too low and cannot be moved up."

Anonymous, MI (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The front seats has heating and cooling features and they very comfortable and the outward visibility is better than other sport coupe (Camaro and Challenger). The noise level is improve from my previous Mustang, The ride quality has also improve. The bad: rear seats are only suitable for small children."

Anonymous, NJ (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The Recaro seats are excellent for long distance driving as well as track day events."

Ron H., CA (2016 Ford Mustang)

"ride impact harshness and road noise harshness and wind noise and drive line vibration booming nice ac seats strong ac"

Anonymous, TX (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Our pony is a California Special, so it has a few extra spoilers and accents. Plus it's black on black, so it is naturally pretty sinister coming down the road. Probably the best effect is how it seems to cause a testosterone rush in every car we come up on, so I can pretty much drive it as fast as I want, and always have bear bait "running away" in front of me ... Toyota Camrys seem to feel the most inferior, which really seems funny to me when they want to try to impress me ..."

John R., AR (2016 Ford Mustang)

"The seats are very comfortable, and since it's a Premium, the cool/heat function, even in FL, is awesome"

Anonymous, FL (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Not a comfortable ride but fun to drive."

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"The only thing I see bad, is that reliability is rated low. No problems with the first 14000 miles."

Walker B., SC (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Bought it for $24,000 in feb but it lacked options. Wished it had a GPS, larger sync screen, power seats, seat cover/interior color options.Ford needs to make a v-6 Mustang with options."

JESSE W., OK (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Only negative - paid over sticker price and gas guzzler tax."

"We were able to buy this car in feb. 2016 for $23,499 which we thought was a good value compared to other ford dealerships though it didn't come with any extra options other than a automatic transmission."

Jesse W., OK (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Ford is able to package a high level of useful technology and performance for a moderate price, relative to imports."

John K., NY (2016 Ford Mustang)

"I ordered this vehicle from the factory ($38000) and was very dissatisfied with the build quality. Problems with the driver side door closing properly (even though they saw what I meant, they said there was nothing wrong with it), the driver side mirror light broke/failed to work after a few months & the dealer charged me $800 to repair the a/c after a year of owning the car. It then failed the following year costing me an additional $2,200 to fix even though the car was only 1 year old when it first failed. The manufacturers warranty was expired due to the mileage on the car (for both repairs). The battery also failed at the 2 year mark and the dealer told me sometimes you just get a bad battery. OK, but maybe give me a discount other than only charging half of the diagnostic fee to determine why my car wouldn't start (they dropped the fee from $75 down to $35). And they charged $150 for the battery. The $500 "tire & windshield" extra insurance coverage I purchased at the dealer when I purchased the car refused to pay on claims on both windshield rock chip & 2 tires that blew out when I pulled to the side of the road (they said it wasn't a road hazard, the road was built that way - they refused to acknowledge that chunks of concrete had failed on the roadway causing sharp edges which were not visible while driving. Of course the details matter on this, so suffice it to say I believe this is just a scam to get more money and I would never recommend anyone purchasing an "extra" coverage. I didn't buy the extended warranty due to the mileage I was expecting to have to put on the car and I felt I should be able to have a car for 4 years without any major reliability issues. I feel the dealers were less than truthful, and shady like the stereotypical used car salesperson. In addition, the new car salesperson lied to me when I called and was on my way to pick up my new car. He did it because he knew I was nervous about the trade-in I had towed to the dealership. How do I know this? The same tow truck driver had to come to my house again later that year to tow another vehicle I had (I live in a small town) and we talked about the day I got my mustang. I was warned not to buy Ford by quite a few people. I thought they had a good reputation, but next time I am going to look at other manufacturers for my car. I would never buy a new car at Ford again - it was supposed to be an exciting experience, and it was wrought with disappointment. $38,000 may not be a lot of money for many people or to the dealership, but it was a huge amount for me. I will always steer people away from Ford and try to convince not to consider a Ford when buying a vehicle due to the unprofessional conduct of the new car salesperson, the poor build and quality of a new vehicle, the lack of professionalism and honesty of the service advisers at the dealership, and the general lack of disregard for a customer who bought a new vehicle from Ford."

"Outstanding performance and handling for the price; with the track pack, am able to track the car all day with no issues"

Edward H., TX (2016 Ford Mustang)

Fruman J., AZ (2016 Ford Mustang)

"Two mechanical failures under warranty 1. Puddle lamp in exterior rearview 2. Heat box failure (AC) requires dash removal to replace (known problem for Ford)"

Anonymous, NC (2016 Ford Mustang)

LAUZON R., ON (2016 Ford Mustang)

"All new for 2015, very refreshing and sporty. It is not just me, the Mustang is currently outselling BOTH the Camaro and the Challenger at the same time each month since the 2015 Mustangs came out."

"This is a GT350, and there were only a small number produced. I expected mine to be white with blue stripes, replicating the original GT350. Unfortunately, it came in "Shadow Black". The car is absolutely beautiful, the GT350 styling wonderful, BUT ... this car was replacing a 2007 Mustang GT500, "Grabber Orange" with white stripes. I miss the attention I used to get. The car is just too sedate, I guess."
