The Ford Ranger falls far short of modern pickup-truck standards. It's ungainly and stiff-riding; has a rough and noisy, inefficient engine; and a cramped, uncomfortable cabin. The interior is crudely finished. Compact dimensions and a usefully sized bed are the Ranger's only pluses. Even if you took thousands off its list price, the Ranger still would not be a bargain.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

"It has good power."

Anonymous, SC (2005 Ford Ranger)

"A good reliable truck , I drive it on long trips,it s a gas hog , 4 wheel drive ,automatic and 4.0 engine. The truck has never failed,( knock on wood)."

Glenn S., OH (2005 Ford Ranger)

"Bad mpg should of got 4.0 v6"

Stevie W., CA (2005 Ford Ranger)

"Engine start very reliably. 3.0 V6 feels more powerful than expected. Automatic transmission slow to change gears at 40 mph transition. Mileage much worse than expected. Ride harsh, but expected for truck."

David B., MS (2005 Ford Ranger)

"Excellent more power than I really need, I wish I would have gotten the 4 cylinder instead of the 6 as I did not need the extra power and gas mileage would have been better."

Carles K., OR (2005 Ford Ranger)

"satisfactory acceleration, stable handling but not a performer."

Anonymous, IA (2005 Ford Ranger)

"The little four cylinder engine is under powered."

Anonymous, TX (2005 Ford Ranger)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"For a truck, it rides very good."

Anonymous, SC (2005 Ford Ranger)

"For the type vehicle the Ranger is the comfort of the seats and the ride are acceptable...not luxurious :)"

Anonymous, WY (2005 Ford Ranger)

"Good overall. Ride is a bit choppy but that is to be expected."

Steven B., MI (2005 Ford Ranger)

"Always had Ford Ranger. Best small truck ever"

Anonymous, FL (2005 Ford Ranger)

"It is a truck, so no matter how slow and careful, you still feel it when you go over a speed bump, etc."

Debby L., FL (2005 Ford Ranger)

"The seats are are are a perfect match, far better than any of my friends cars or trucks. Every one is impressed by the acceleration of this vehicle, and its reliability. Wish I had. A new one as good as this . Go Ford????????????"

Willis A., FL (2005 Ford Ranger)

"The typical design back rest of the seat contours forward on the let and right side making the upper body feel uncomfortable by pushing the shoulders toward the center line of the body. The noise level is tolerable but a little loud on rough gravel roads. The comfort from the suspension is as expected for this type of truck which is fair."

Eric G., TX (2005 Ford Ranger)

"It's atruck that relies on 1950's & 60's suspension, torsion bsrs and leaf springs. It rides quite stiffly, but there is a little improvement with at least 500# in the box."

Anonymous, WI (2005 Ford Ranger)

"Not too comfortable for long rides. tight fit."

THERESE M., NM (2005 Ford Ranger)

"comfortable seat quiet ride"

JUDSON B., CA (2005 Ford Ranger)

"Wind noise."

Anonymous, CT (2005 Ford Ranger)

EDWARD D., AL (2005 Ford Ranger)

Anonymous, ON (2005 Ford Ranger)

"24-34 mpg with a camper shell, holds all my gear when traveling and cost $10,000 when purchased new in 2005. It will be a problem finding a vehicle to replace it when needed."

"Good price for a truck. Not as solid feeling as older rangers."
