The Ford Ranger falls far short of modern pickup-truck standards. It's ungainly and stiff-riding; has a rough and noisy, inefficient engine; and a cramped, uncomfortable cabin. The interior is crudely finished. Compact dimensions and a usefully sized bed are the Ranger's only pluses. Even if you took thousands off its list price, the Ranger still would not be a bargain.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"with positrac truck hadles very well in snow"

Ronald P., ON (2006 Ford Ranger)

"Not the smoothest ride over irregular road surfaces. Acceleration is good. Road noise reasonable for a midsize pickup truck. The rear inward facing jump seats are only suitable for children or anorexic adults."

Franklin T., NJ (2006 Ford Ranger)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The seats are hard and the cloth used is not as it was in the past years of the Ranger. The seats on my 1996 Ranger were much more comfortable and the seat cushions where much better."

Kathleen H., FL (2006 Ford Ranger)

"I am having difficulty sifting into 1st gear after a full stop(5 speed trans.)."

Chuck T., OR (2006 Ford Ranger)

"seats are supportive, due to heavy duty tires there is a lot of road noice"

Ronald P., ON (2006 Ford Ranger)

"you would have to in one to know"

DIANA B., NC (2006 Ford Ranger)

"Interior appointments are OK. Nothing that could be considered luxurious. Compared to my former ride, a 1997 F-150 XLT, some things are lacking which one would EXPECT to be standard equipment, such as a glovebox light, map light, adjustable headrests, a cargo bed light etc. which I miss. Ride is somewhat rough and even bone jarring over irregular road surfaces, potholes and especially manhole covers that are not set at proper grade. I am 6'-4" and the interior can be somewhat confining at times"

FRANKLIN T., NJ (2006 Ford Ranger)

"Unless there is a load, the ride is pretty stiff."

OSCAR C., AZ (2006 Ford Ranger)

"the climate control has 7 settings for function (i.e. a/c, defrost, etc) and all but 2 engage the compressor."

RICK R., WV (2006 Ford Ranger)

"I wish I could buy one today"

GARY J., TX (2006 Ford Ranger)

"Good all around second vehicle for hauling or getting around in."

Anonymous, OH (2006 Ford Ranger)

Anonymous, NH (2006 Ford Ranger)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I paid $9500 when I bought it used in 2010. Ford just offered me $9275 cash for it."

WILLIAM B., WA (2006 Ford Ranger)

"Keeps it's value and I've had several offers to buy it"

JAMES H., GA (2006 Ford Ranger)

"Basic conventional vehicle, 2WD, manual transmission, not over-engineered, still partially serviceable in the driveway. We use this mainly as a weekend recreational vehicle for kayaking in West Virginia, which involves some rough roads into river valleys. The truck is entirely road - worthy in that use. Ford made an enormous mistake in discontinuing it."

Anonymous, OH (2006 Ford Ranger)

"Handy, economical to operate, reasonably comfortable on the highway and unpaved mountain roads. Terrible exterior paint quality."

James T., CO (2006 Ford Ranger)

"It has been relatively maintenance free with the exception of a fuel pump...that's it."

Thomas R., TX (2006 Ford Ranger)
