    First Take
The Sierra and its Chevrolet Silverado twin are well-rounded pickups with an available full-time 4WD system and generous payload capacity. Ride quality is decent with the Z85 suspension and handling is secure with standard ESC. High-end models have very good interior fit and finish, but all have simple controls. A luxurious Sierra Denali model has permanent AWD and a powerful 6.2-liter V8. The crew cab is roomy with easy access. A new six-speed automatic slightly improves fuel economy and acceleration with the tested 5.3-liter V8. A hybrid model is available; we found it considerably improved fuel economy on the Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid we tested. Side- and curtain-air bags are standard for 2010. IIHS side-crash-test results are poor.
