Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Loose exterior trim or moldings

"One of the side moldings is coming off. Not a real big deal, as I could peel it off completely, refurbish it, and then stick it back on, but I SHOULDN'T have to"

Holly H., AB (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.6-L V8 diesel)
Loose interior trim or moldings

"Headliner came loose around windshield. Had headliner replaced"

Jim G., TX (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLE 6.6-L V8 diesel)
Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Paint is pealing off of hood. This is the second occurrence as I had to have the top of the cab repainted about 5 years ago"

Jim G., TX (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLE 6.6-L V8 diesel)

"The coating on the trim, a small piece on a door is coming off"

Michael F., UT (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.6-L V8 diesel)

"Paint is peeling off the hood of my truck. Dealership said it was probably a rock chip that started it, but I don't see how a rock could hit up where it supposedly did. I think it is just poor paint bonding"

Holly H., AB (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.6-L V8 diesel)

"Paint peeled on roof, had repainted Paint is starting to peel on hood"

Anonymous, TX (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLE 6.6-L V8 diesel)

Walter K., MI (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.0-L V8)
Regular brake failure

"The brake line broke and I had no breaks. I was towing a boat trailer which add surge breaks and luckily as I pump the pedal I slowed the truck enough avoid hitting the car in front of me. These brake lines or replaced in 2012. The original breaks and a rubbing issue with a bolt that caused a failure at that time also. Those lines were replaced buy the dealer in Washington state."

Michael B., PA (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.6-L V8 diesel)

"At 12 years old the brake lines had to be replaced due to rust. Not surprising in northern new england."

"The right front wheel bearing was bad upon inspection, at 110,000 miles the wheel bearings should not be worn out. This requires a new front hub and brake rotor and is expensive to replace. Bearings should last longer than this"

Michael B., PA (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.6-L V8 diesel)

"Front wheel bearing failure."

Anonymous, ID (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.6-L V8 diesel)

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"I had a new tranny put in by CHEVROLET dealer a few years ago. Last year, when in Tow mode, the transmission would downshift for no apparent reason on a straight road ( no incline; I had tranny replaced a few years back. Last Summer, when driving with or without towing my boat, it would downshift into a lower gear for no apparent reason on a straight level road. After taking it several times to the CHEVROLET dealer, they resolved the problem by replacing a brake controller !? Somehow that is part of the transmission ?"

Anonymous, AK (2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT 6.0-L V8)
Transmission computer

"twice during the winter, the transmission refused to go into gear. No forward or reverse. trouble codes indicated 3 solinoids bad. 2 different repair shops said it could NOT be the transmission, but did not know how to fix it"
