2017 Honda Accord Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
This version of the Honda Accord stands out as a comfortable, roomy, and efficient midsized sedan. It's also nice to drive and easy to live with. When matched with the smooth continuously variable transmission, the standard Accord's 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine squeezes out an excellent 30 mpg overall and 40 on the highway. That's better than most smaller compact cars and even some subcompacts.

What Owners Say

"For a four cylinder engine it has a lot of pep or get-up-and-go if you want. It is a pleasure to drive, with great sight lines."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Honda Accord)

"Excellent acceleration"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"the acceleration/handling is just ok"

Sherry C., OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"There seems to be a less than smooth acceleration, kind of a jerkyness. I have not returned to the dealer to have it checked out but it could be I'm not used to a continuously variable transmissions"

Alan S., OR (2017 Honda Accord)

"Fantastic acceleration. Sticks to the road. Braking matches acceleration."

Wayne D., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Nothing. No better than the 2014. Need more oomph. Turbo maybe. A 2.6 litre stroked engine, something. Mileage is one thing but in the odd time you need power to pass cars on a two lane highway power is so important."

Ron Y., ON (2017 Honda Accord)

"This car accelerates nicely. Handling is mushy. The car feels heavy during higher speed turns. Turning radius is lousy."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"We chose it to consider buying based on CR's high rating for driver visibility. We tried the Subarus that also were rated highly for driver visibility, but my wife liked the Accord the best. Since we bought it, she is very comfortable with the all around visibility. She also appreciates the back-up camera."

Joseph B., AZ (2017 Honda Accord)

"steering is a bit too responsive -- takes some getting used too"

Anonymous, NC (2017 Honda Accord)

"Smooth drive"

Anonymous, MO (2017 Honda Accord)

"Is a fun car to drive with a manual transmission. Handles nicely for a sedan. Acceleration is fine for my needs."

Bernard W., FL (2017 Honda Accord)

"This Accord seems to handle better than our previous 2005, which itself was fine. It seems to have just enough power to get out of tough spots (too short entrance ramps on highways), and the steering seems precise and effortless."

Anonymous, RI (2017 Honda Accord)

"Acceleration and cornering are great for a non-luxury sedan of this size - although the EX-L trim line is comparable to some luxury sedans."

Anonymous, CT (2017 Honda Accord)

"Handling is excellent"

B H., NH (2017 Honda Accord)

"Drives very well. Wish for better ride when on rough streets or roads"

Barry B., OK (2017 Honda Accord)

"It is very quick and responsive. It can be fast if you need it, but generally it is great to find a comfortable cruising speed. It is solid and sure-footed on the road. Doesn't over react to bumps."

Lee A., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Very quick response and acceleration. Handles great in traffic and emergency avoidance. We have the 6 cyl engine. Love it."

G W., MS (2017 Honda Accord)

"Electric hybrid Is more immediate and responsive than internal combustion engine"

Thomas L., WI (2017 Honda Accord)

"I love the adaptive cruise control. It doesn’t handle as well as th3 2015 Infiniti"

Daniel H., NY (2017 Honda Accord)

"Accelerates better than I expected due to hybrid torque. Handles well, precise steering, tires have good grip but less than my Acura TL had."

Blair B., TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"It has 2 options. One is ecconomy for better fuel savings, other is for faster acceleration. I like this option. I use fuel economy unless I need to speed up for safety reasons. The.cruise control slows me down when approaching g a vehicle. The auto braking system is wonderful. The lane guidance is fabulous. One negative...The turn signals sometimes flicker differently than i intended. Very easy handling and comfortable seating. Great trunk space."

Anonymous, IA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Road noise is too high. Needs to add insulation. Acceleration is really good. MPG is great!"

Anonymous, SC (2017 Honda Accord)

"Safety features"

Anonymous, WI (2017 Honda Accord)

"has a lot of pep when acceratimg"

Betsy H., PA (2017 Honda Accord)

"I'm very satisfied with the acceleration of my V6 Accord. I easily pass other drivers while changing lanes or merging on or off freeway on/off ramps. It also handles better than I expected."

Marvin B., NY (2017 Honda Accord)

"Satisfied"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Honda Accord)

"The V6 Accord has plenty of power, even in ECON mode. Handling feels secure and the transmission operates smoothly and quietly."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"Great merging acceleration, and the wide tires grip well."

Dominic C., FL (2017 Honda Accord)

"The handling is very tight on the road and allows for a very easy drive. I have never owned a six cylinder car and the acceleration is excellent when needed on the highway. The car feels like it flies on the highway and is extremely fun and reassuring to drive."

Jill S., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"This car is a joy to drive. Handling is crisp. Throttle response is smooth and powerful. The sightlines are good. The adaptive cruise control is easy to use and I no longer commute so do not miss that it lacks stop and go."

Donald B., ON (2017 Honda Accord)

"Great ride, acceleration, comfort, handling. Great fuel economy for a non-hybrid car."

Adam B., NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"Very smooth engine that responds superbly when called upon. Drives like a much smaller car, from a handling perspective."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Accord)

"drives great on tight space on the highway on ramps a little more power would be nice"

William M., PA (2017 Honda Accord)

"My Honda is a 4 cylinder as they do not offer a V-6 with cloth seats. I was a little leery about the 4 Cylinder but it is a very nice car to drive. I even have the ECO bottom engaged with no problems. I am not a big get out of my way driver so I do not accelerate hard and coast when I can coming up to lights or stopped or slow traffic. This car also goes where you point it."

Robert Y., CO (2017 Honda Accord)

"I bought a 6 speed manual transmission. Acceleration is excellent in all gears but very impressive in 5th and 6 th gears. Handling is crisp and sure. In emergency situations I always felt I had great handling and quick response."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Honda Accord)

"Acceleration is slightly sluggish if you need quick acceleration to merge into traffic. Otherwise it accelerates very well. Handling is good. Vehicle is easy to control and visibility of surrounding traffic is good."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Honda Accord)

"It handles very smoothly."

Cathy L., WI (2017 Honda Accord)

"I love the ability of the V-6 engine to accelerate quickly when I need it. We planned to get a 2018 Honda, but learned they no longer offered the V-6 engine in the Accord. I wanted a V-6 so in October we quickly found a 2017 with the other features we wanted and bought it."

Norman C., SC (2017 Honda Accord)

"I think it handles well and accelerates pretty quickly and smoothly. I enjoy driving this car more than most of the many cars I have owned. It is not too big and not too small and so far has worked well in any tight situations I have been in on the road."

Regina D., NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"The Honda handles really well on both regular streets and highways. Acceleration and general handling are excellent."

Susan S., MD (2017 Honda Accord)

"This vehicle, with the CVT transmission drives very smoothly and has plenty of pep to get out in traffic."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Honda Accord)

"It's very comfortable to drive."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Honda Accord)

"It handles and accelerates very well. You'd never know it was a hybrid. I don't even use the sport feature."

Mark D., NM (2017 Honda Accord)

"The V6 w/6-speed automatic transmission is a gem! It's super-smooth with plenty of power, and outstanding highway mileage."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Honda Accord)

"Drives very good with plenty of power."

Noll D., KY (2017 Honda Accord)

"For a van the Odyessy handles very well. Better if loaded front and back."

Anonymous, MN (2017 Honda Accord)

"Excellent gas mileage and good handling. Car has very good acceleration."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Handling is good. Acceleration to freeway speeds is labored."

Susan H., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"The six cylinder engine is outstanding. When I need power it delivers. It is a shame they discontinued producing this engine. I may have to look at other options for my next vehicle after 4 accords. One complaint is road noise. It is still an annoyance. The seat comfort is great."

Anonymous, SC (2017 Honda Accord)

"Overall it's very good. One problem is the radar, mostly it's great. However, winter driving, the radar can freeze up, disallowing Cruze control and lane keeping. I recommend a heated 12V hairblower, to warm up the flat spot near passengers side of front grill."

Curtis G., UT (2017 Honda Accord)

"Very normal for this type of car"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"I really like the handling of the vehicle, the informatics screen on the dash that gives feedback on the eco systems that switch between the electric and gas power, and the adaptable cruise control that automatically adjusts speed when behind a slower vehicle. These combine to make long drives much less stressful and tiring."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"I expected a hybrid to not get acceleration, but, doh, this is a Honda, of course it gets good acceleration. That's what I love about Hondas..,the sportiness even in a sedan. This car handles very well, taking corners easily and decelerating with ease as well."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Pleased with handling. Adaptive cruise control works very well and is huge aid in avoiding fatigue and providing added safety."

R R., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"When pavement is wet it does not give you a controlled turn. On highway it's acceleration is not that good."

Sandra D., OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"The battery in the trunk takes up space. Would like to see this car have a larger battery and plug-in feature. Really like driving in all electric mode."

Anonymous, MN (2017 Honda Accord)

"opted for v6 and 6 speed, did not want turbo and cvt. drives great, plentyof power."

Norm W., AL (2017 Honda Accord)

"zippy and quick according to my wife."

J C., FL (2017 Honda Accord)

"the CVT does a very good job and isn't noticeably noisy; good acceleration"

Karl Y., TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"The acceleration and handling of the 2017 Honda Accord V6 is exceptional. It hugs corners and accelerates with such ease and speed. I am really disappointed that they have stopped making the V6. I will most likely have to switch brands because of that for my next vehicle. I have only driven a Honda Vehicle since 2004."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Honda Accord)

"quick acceleration .."

Wendy K., ME (2017 Honda Accord)

"a bit of gas-engine noise on accelerating handling is great for me"

Edwin K., MA (2017 Honda Accord)

"I find it difficult to remain in a lane at higher speeds (50 mph+)."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"Drives great at ANY speed. Handling is very good (not like my S2K) but great. Brakes could be better."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Excellent handling. Drives like a Honda."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Honda Accord)

"smoothness of transmission"

Paul K., WV (2017 Honda Accord)

"great acceleration, but handling is somewhat more rapid than my older Hondas. It goes where you point it, even though you may not be going in that direction...somewhat disconcerting."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Honda Accord)

"Best handling car I have ever driven. Responds immediately to change of directions. Acceleration is on demand at all times"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"I am generally very satisfied with the acceleration and handling, altho I typically turn off the Eco when on the freeway, as the acceleration improves then. When using the cruise control, if you come upon a car going slower, the Accord rather abruptly decelerates. You need to react quickly or your car slows down very fast. That can be annoying."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Have to use Accelerator pedal way too much to maintain speed in unlevel terrain. To touchy."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Honda Accord)

"There's plenty of power to come up to freeway speed. I don't drive aggressively, so in my opinion, there's plenty of torque and acceleration for my style of driving. I also like that it gets great fuel economy for the size of vehicle. Handling is smooth and I always feel in control. It's a delight to drive!"

David G., OR (2017 Honda Accord)

"Acceleration is great and the car handling is excellent."

Sandra B., IL (2017 Honda Accord)

"leasing hondas sine 1968. Does this help you understand my love of hondas?"

Daniel W., OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"Much better acceleration than expected. I was worried about the CTV transmission, but have been pleasantly surprised. I did have to get used to it though. You have to let the transmission do the work. Less throttle is needed to get you where you want to go, The transmission runs you up to speed without overtaxing the engine, and very quickly. Better for fuel consumption, but like I said you have to get used to it. It may shift "gears"(there are no gears) 6-7 times on quick acceleration, and I only have to put my foot half-way down."

Paul W., OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"drives like a more expensive car"

Vincent D., NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"The good: it is reliable. As soon as I test drove this car, it felt like it was mine. I was comfortable driving it. The bad: It could be a little quieter."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Honda Accord)

"last of the V6s, great fun to drive, awesome acceleration. tight dynamics"

Anonymous, CT (2017 Honda Accord)

"very smooth gear changes with the AT. Good acceleration for a small engine."

Ian S., MB (2017 Honda Accord)

"It accelerates nicely and handles well but it does growl just a bit when accelerating."

Paul Y., MA (2017 Honda Accord)

"As in all the Honda's I have owned the acceleration has either be excellent or good depending on the age. We typically have our Honda's for at least 9 yrs. I am still driving a 2004 Honda Accord."

Anthony A., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Handling and acceleration are perfect, as I had expected as I had a 2005 Honda Accord before this one and it to was trouble free."

George H., AB (2017 Honda Accord)

"Acceleration and handling good for my type of driving."

Anonymous, IA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Don't like: small trunk, no spare tire, primitive and restrictive and awkward Bluetooth that actually PROMOTES wanting to use smartphone screen while driving."

Anonymous, IN (2017 Honda Accord)

"It hugs the road and accelerates smoothly. The transmission is exceptional smooth."

Alan S., OR (2017 Honda Accord)

"For a hybrid car it has very good acceleration and handles very well."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Acceleration is satisfactory. Handling is crisp and accurate. Road noise is a problem, as in all other Honda autos I have owned."

Rod H., FL (2017 Honda Accord)

"It handles beautifully. I upgraded from a 2009 Honda to the 2017 and was surprised at the easier handling - acceleration and parking."

Constance S., VA (2017 Honda Accord)

"It has good acceleration for a 4 Cyl. and is quite competent in changing lanes, avoiding road hazards. The variable belt drive feels a little weird when accelerating and does not have, in my opinion a consistent "feel", but it works. Switching the ECO switch did little to affect MPG. I measured the mileage both ways, driving about 1,500-2,000 miles."

Jerry M., OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"For a 4 cylinder car, acceleration is good. The handling is excellent and the for a family sedan, is a "drivers car.""

Anonymous, MD (2017 Honda Accord)

"Excellent acceleration and very food handling. Easy to drive a d precise steering"

Ronald M., NY (2017 Honda Accord)

"I had a 1996 Honda Accord for 20 years. It rather drove itself although it had a manual transmission. My 2017 Honda Sport is an automatic and I would not trade it for a stick. Its so easy"

Alison O., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"The acceleration of my Honda is exceptional. Could not be happier. Have no worries that it will get me out of an emergency situation in a flash."

Anonymous, VT (2017 Honda Accord)

"V 6 Accelleration - great. Handeling - stiff suspension, very safe feeling."

Paul S., WI (2017 Honda Accord)

"Acceleration is very good with the combination of the 4 cylinder and the CVT. Excellent acceleration at higher speeds (i.e. accelerating from 45-65mph). The CVT makes you feel like you have a much larger engine. Handles corners and tight roads with ease. Sometimes there is steering "float" vague feedback."

Scott K., MA (2017 Honda Accord)

"I have the Touring model with the V-6 engine. The acceleration is much better than the 4 cylinder models. I'm very happy that I can scoop away when I need to get away from traffic etc. I'm not an expert on handling so I cannot comment on it with any degree of knowledge but the car seems to do whatever I want it to do when something comes up other then driving straight ahead,"

R W., FL (2017 Honda Accord)

"good acceleration, and handling"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"Awesome acceleration from the Honda VTEC V-6 engine. Very good handling - drives like the Honda Accord of the 1980s."

Anonymous, SC (2017 Honda Accord)

"Driving is easy & comfortable. Handling isn't as crisp & fun as my old vw golf, but this is a different category of car. I really enjoy the regen breaking & EV mode & acceleration is still very good if you press the pedal to the metal."

Ross P., NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"Slightly better gas mileage and quieter than my 2010, but doesn’t handle as well as my 2010 Accord. About same acceleration as 2010."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"Fuel economy and automatic cruse control"

Anonymous, IL (2017 Honda Accord)

"I find the normally aspirated 4 cyl. powerplant to provide enough power. While accelerating aggressively, the paddle shifters respond to upshifts immediately unlike a Chevrolet Camaro RS that I drove. During normal driving, I downshift with the paddle shifters to improve my fuel economy. Many times I barely have to apply the brakes, only within the last 100-300 feet. This vehicle handles very well for its size."

Mark J., IN (2017 Honda Accord)

"The car has low profile tires, apparently to allow faster turns. We would like to have higher profile tires. On some concrete highways with evenly-spaced seams, the low profile tires lead to an oscillatory up and down motion of the suspension system causing the shock absorbers to bottom out."

W E., TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"Very smooth on both. you can hardly feel the gears changing."

Ian S., MB (2017 Honda Accord)

"Accelerates faster than the previous Accura that I had."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Honda Accord)

"The Honda Accord V6 Touring 2017 has very good acceleration and handling. The cruise control lags a bit. The lane assist and brake assist sometime mistake cars in the other lane (on a curve) for cars in the same lane. The technology can be helpful but sometimes annoying, in beta mode."

"I'm very happy with the ability to use such tools as the backup camera and the right-side camera to keep an eye on traffic. The acceleration, when out of economy mode, is excellent, although I seldom use it. (Because I forget to switch.) The economy mode causes a bit of drag in highway driving, but it's great in town."

Michele B., TX (2017 Honda Accord)

"Ride is very steady at speed, acceleration is fine w/electric motor assist if needed..."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"The adaptive cruise control is very effective in traffic on the freeways, maintaining a safe following distance for the car in front. The automatic transmission is a vast improvement over the 2003 model it replaced. The car will intelligently downshift when needed to control speed when going downhill on mountain grades, which is highly valued on trips to the mountainous regions here in the West."

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"comfort of the seats are hard & uncomfortable & passenger side is manual adjust(bad for price given, it's a limited edition), it's noise is loud and the ride is very rough"

Sherry C., OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"Still too much tire/road noise, much like my 2010 Accord., although less wind noise than my 2010."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"I'm 6' 0" and heavy. In any front seat position that is comfortable for me the top of the steering wheel or the cowl over the speedometer block the view of the speedometer at normal driving speeds. The fix is actually very easy for Honda, just update the computer to add an optional digital speed readout in the area of the center of the speedometer where they already have a small computer screen for other information. They do that on the new Honda Civics, but not the Accords. I doubt if there..."

"The ride on the accord is good."

James K., MN (2017 Honda Accord)

"Seat comfort is very good. Wind noise is loud at times. Low speed ride (under 40 mph) is harsh on local streets in need of repair. (19" tires?) Highway speed ride is very stable and comfortable."

Gandg C., CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"The cloth seats provide excellent support for my back and the cushions are long enough to support my thighs. The car rides very smoothly and quietly. There is an intermittent buzz emanating from the passenger side of the console, stuffing foam rubber under the bottom of the console works for a while."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"Road noise is way too intrusive for the trim level I purchased (Touring). At the price point for this car, noise level should be MUCH less. The seats are comfortable, have had no complaints from passengers. The ride is a little harsh, and on bridges you can get quite a bit of front to back rocking motion, possibly due to too short of a wheelbase."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"sound deadening is much better than previous model years. Seat comfort for this model (Sport special edition) is much better than lower trim levels. Low profile tires on the Sport trim level are good on smooth roads and high speed curves but low profile tires are terrible on potholes. NJ (where I live and mostly drive) has a LOT of potholes! I decided on this trim level because of the comfortable seats but the harsh ride would not make me want to get this trim level again."

Leonard H., NJ (2017 Honda Accord)

"It's a very comfortable car. Leather seats are great. Noise level is low. Ride is smooth. Controls are intuitive and easy to reach. The steering wheel and seat position adjustments are great and we like that the seat position is stored in memory and switches automatically between drivers. Visibility is great, especially with the passenger side blind-spot camera."

Sherry C., OH (2017 Honda Accord)

"The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet. It's the major reason we went with the Accord over other hybrids. The head rests though could use some major redesign. I like to sit up straight when I drive. The headrests as currently designed push my head so far forward that I look at the dashboard when sitting up straight. So we put the driver side headrest in backwards."

"The driver's seat is very comfortable and is the primary reason I purchased the car. The lumbar support is particularly helpful for some back issues I have. Unfortunately, there is no lumbar support for the passenger seat, in which I also ride. That would be a major improvement to the car."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Honda Accord)

"The comfort of the driver's seat can become noticeable after any extended time period. I guess it's the size 'cause I have to reposition my buttock and legs. Honda cars (i.e. also Acura) have a noise problem (road noise) . The ride has that European feel. Very noticeable."

"Seats are far too hard for long distance trips. No lumbar support. Your legs will fall asleep after and hour. Does not matter the wight/size of the person driving. Seats too low to see the front of the hood even when adjusted to highest position. Cabin is very noisy with tire/road noise (all speeds), significant wind noise at speeds above 40mph. Wine (sounds like Diesel truck) from CVT when accelerating from stop/low speeds. Harsh ride on bumps and inconsistent road surfaces."

I just do the regular maintenance as suggested and I’m a defensive smart driver who considers gas mileage in my driving style. The former accords were passed down to family members who got additional miles from them. They never quit and never breakdown...if well maintained and sensibly driven. "The 2017 model added a lot of features as standard equiptment that was optional on the 2015 model, yet we were able to buy the 2017 for around $3000 less. Some of the features that were made standard are: front & rear bumper mounted sensors for parking/pedestrian detection, auto braking feature (warning only in 2015), side sill extensions, LED fog lights, a slightly larger trunk, a revised nav system with a sharper screen, GPS navigation supplied by Garmin (which is MUCH more responsive and easier to enter data), Apple CarPlay, steering correction for lane drift (vs only warning in the 2015), rear seat heaters, and they put a door to cover the cubby hole in the center console (we used a black towel to cover the hole in our 2015 car, so prying eyes couldn't see the stuff we kept there). The only bad thing that I can see is that the gas tank got smaller by about 3/4 gallon."

Honda made it that way and although they will fix it in order to do so it requires major body work. We are on our 4th radio, voice command system another thing Honda got completely wrong. "Since gas prices are relatively low dealers are more willing to do deals to move hybrid versions of cars. I wanted all of the new Honda Sensing safety equipment and the dealer had 7 Accord Hybrid EX-Ls and Tourings on the lot. Also, the new 2018 models were just a month away from coming out so they really had to make some room. I ended up with an Accord Hybrid Touring for $26,700. Owning my "Silver Ghost" has been equally inexpensive. Whereas I used to fill up my previous vehicle every 2 weeks I can go over 6 weeks with this car. With the short trip, around town driving I mostly do of 10 miles or less I average 45 mpg. Last year hurricane Irma caused me to have to vacate my home in Florida so I went to family in NJ. I averaged 54 mpg and the car was brand new, not even broken in. I was astonished at getting over 600 miles on a tank of gas considering it's a 14.8 gal. tank. I am extremely pleased with the safety equipment as well. Over 45 mph the car can assist in steering itself, as well as having adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, parking and cross traffic sensors, a backup camera and blind spot camera on the passenger side. All of this safety, Honda quality, and excellent fuel economy for $26,700"

"It always seems that when we turn in our Honda, the lease terms are at their highest. I mean if we could waite a few months without a car and then lease, the prices always seem to be at their lowest. Ex. Lease at $99.00 a month as compaired to $199 to over $200 and without a down payment."
