Robert W., AZ (2009 Honda Civic Si 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"All the interior key trim owrk like the steering wheel cover and front interoir trim is decaying away. When you drive this car, you have decaying sticky rubber residue on your hands from the steering wheel each time you drive this car. Trim inside is cracking and dry rotting away. The exteroir mirrors have a seal / design defect and creates a paint stain on the car side panels and doors and leeds to look like prime and a rust out.. With the poor external and interior quality of this car, the resale value is so low and shows so poorly we are stuck to keep it instead of trading up for a new model. This is a DO NOT BUY CIVIC brand for buyers. We have just 30,025 miles on it. After 20 yeas of this brand, it continues to fall below average in so many areas."

Anonymous, (2009 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"About 5 years ago the topcoat started to peel off the paint and caused a graying appearance on the roof and trunk lid. Noticed that about 1/2 of the civics of that age had the same problem. Was brought to the attention of the local dealer on 2 occasions; they said there was nothing they could do except repaint the car at our expense (there was no manufacturer's warranty)."

Honda would not take responsibility for their poor workmanship"

Anonymous, (2009 Honda Civic DX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"Paint(fading, chalking, cracking, peeling)is a manufacturing defect with the 2009 Civic. I did not get a recall letter, but when I called the Honda dealer, about 2016, and said they would fix the paint problem. Had to leave the car there for a week, no loaner car. They fixed/repainted the problem areas, but only those areas. WHY DID THEY NOT REPAINT THE WHOLE CAR? Since then other areas/panels have done the same thing. I have not called to ask why or if they will fix the rest, dealer is 100 kilometers away and I would have to leave the car for another week without a loaner. I am disappointed and annoyed THAT THE DEALER DID NOT DO RIGHT AND DO THE COMPLETE FIX/REPAINT THE ENTIRE CAR THE FIRST TIME! Would not recommend this Bridgewater, Nova Scotia dealership. They had their chance and did not do the right thing the first time."

The paint was a solid, non-metallic black which faded and wore off in several places, especially the roof and trunk. The roof is down to primer now. I have a friend with a Civic who had the same problem with paint. Our local dealership provided poor service so we moved our routine services (oil changes, etc.) to a non-dealer business. So my wife took her own personal hard earned money to get roof repainted. I THINK IT WAS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ON HONDA'S PART TO REFUSE TO PICK UP THE COST. It looks terrible. It continues to worsen. I am almost down to the bare metal now."
Carmen F., TN (2009 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"The clear coat began fading about 2 years after purchase on the window edges. It eventually began peeling and flaking off on the black areas around the windows on both the passenger and driver sides."

E M., PA (2009 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"The warranty on the paint was extended to 7 years and when I realized I had a problem I was over that by 31 days. Went to dealer and contacted Honda rep. to no avail. Now the paint job is such a mess that I would probably not buy another Honda. The interior is spotless and the car was always washed and waxed. With so little mileage I was planning on keeping it for a while longer. Not so sure now."

Stephen F., MA (2009 Honda Civic LX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"Turns out it was covered by a recall but they didn't notify people about it. I was buying touch up paint at the dealer, and thankfully the clerk/worker in the parts dept mentioned that our car might be covered by the recall. So it was, and repainted at the cost of the dealer."
Laura B., ME (2009 Honda Civic LX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"A few years back Honda had paid for painting certain areas of the car they said had failed. Now the rest of the car's paint is failing resulting in a very lousy looking finish. Honda has yet to admit this is the same issue they corrected with the rest of the factory paint."

Laurel K., CA (2009 Honda Civic)"Paint began peeling in about 6 places on the roof. Honda was aware of this issue on certain models and had extended the warranty - but my car was outside that warranty period. Anonymous, QC (2009 Honda Civic DX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"Sux bug time. Dark blue paint, clear coat chipping off. Honda would only pain each part that showed white chiping clearr coat. Now out of warranty and new areas are still failing. WHY DIDNT THEY JUST REPAINT THE CAR"
Kevin G., FL (2009 Honda Civic DX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"Paint has faded and oxidized all over the doors, hood and trunk. It is so horrible that we have to pay $1,400 now to repaint it. Apparently there were not enough coats put on or finishing coats. We heard there may be a class action suit against Honda and we would participate."
Anonymous, MD (2009 Honda Civic)"Large spots on roof delaminating. Honda did have silent recall for multiple models of Hondas with paint delamination issues but was very limited (only certain areas covered) and not publicized (I found out about it too late). Although not a safety issue my resale/trade in has been impacted by this and has made me very likely to not get a Honda again."

Anonymous, (2009 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"Again, about 5 years ago, the paint had started to bubble and rust. This was mainly occurring on the black trim around the windows, doors, and gas filling tank. It has also started to appear on the main colour (grey) on the hood and roof. This car is 11 years old, so some rust isn't really a surprise."

Anonymous, NY (2009 Honda Civic 1.8-L 4 Cyl)"The 2009 civic was completely painted with poor and defective processes. All the paint on the hood, roof, spoiler, and trunk are rusting away. Paint other areas are pull away for finish exterior. Some are rusting thru the primer coat and others are in rust mode. I see this in all the 2009 and 10 civics on the road. My Brown Honda dealer Honda offers $600 credit on a $3000 paint job from their body. Terrible defect and consumer burden. Never got a recall leter from the Brown Honda Dealer or Honda Corp. USA. This model and year is a DO NOT BUY Car rating. I have bought 5 new cars from Brown Honda in the past, now our familty switched to a better quality auto brand for future new car buys. Honada nor Browns stand behind their products. Steve and Florence H"
