2014 brought yet another update to Honda's popular small car, keeping the Civic competitive. A responsive continuously variable transmission helps boost fuel economy slightly to 30 mpg overall and 40 on the highway, while an up-level touch-screen infotainment system provides more connectivity features, although it could be more user-friendly. Despite the upgrades, the Civic only scored midpack in our Ratings.

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Honda Civic owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"leaking compressor"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Honda Civic)

"stopped working - no cool air"

Anonymous, (2015 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"My A/C compressor is beginning to fail, so I took it in to my local dealership to get serviced. I told them how it was constantly cycling on and off every few seconds. They proceeded to try to tell me that my A/C compressor is supposed to do that and that it does it to regulate the temperature. I then had to explain how I understood and that my issue just started occurring. Additionally, my wife's vehicle (same year/make/model) does not have the same issue. On top of the constant, loud cycling, my compressor also decides to cause a heavy vibration under the hood that I still cannot pinpoint. This vibration only occurs when the A/C is on and the car is in a low idle/sitting still when just starting the vehicle. All of these issues were unresolved by my local dealership, but they were more than glad to take my money."

Anonymous, (2015 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Blower (fan) motor

"After a couple of years the blower motor gets stuck and you have to bang on it to get it started. I have the EXACT same problem on my 2012 Honda Civic. I ask the dealer about a recall but they say there is none. I ask the mechanic at the Honda dealership and he was totally aware of the problem and showed me how to hit the blower housing to get it started. I don't enjoy having to bang on the blower housing every time I get in the car."

Laine P., TX (2015 Honda Civic LX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"My fan makes an electronic whirring noise but only when the fan is at or above the medium blow speed and when my steering wheel is turned left. I took it in to my local dealer and they gave me a big ordeal and tried to take me for a ride about how they couldn't find the problem, they couldn't fix other problems (time consideration), and couldn't replicate the noise. The issue was not resolved and reoccurred almost immediately after leaving the lot. My local dealership lost my service and respect for sure. The noise itself doesn't make sense because this Honda model has electronic steer assist (no fluid). The noise only occurs when turning the wheel to the left and occurs at any speed."

Anonymous, (2015 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"It was making a mechanical sound when on. It was very annoying"

Ryan H., ON (2015 Honda Civic LX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"A/C stopped working. Low Level indicated a leak. Leak could not be found. Still monitoring."

Katherine M., IL (2015 Honda Civic EX-L 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"It was a very small leak that was hard for the dealership to solve. It took three trips for them to get it right"

Michael C., NJ (2015 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"2 visits for the repair but was covered with the warrenty"

Anonymous, QC (2015 Honda Civic Hybrid 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"It sucks to be an android user because android is not supported in the infotainement system. What I was looking for to have my android phone mirrored on the infotaimement system so that I could use my Sygic navigation system that does not use data. The infotainement system fully supports the iphone. That is just plain ingnorance on part of Honda and irritates me to no end. The pairing of my phone also does not work for the android. Mamoon M., ON (2015 Honda Civic LX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"System refused to accept my cell phone."

James T., GA (2015 Honda Civic EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Honda's entire Hondalink product is crap. I constantly have to setup and pair my cell phone with Hondalink. Even after doing this successfully (which can be *very* difficult to do) I then have to do it again the next time I am in the car. Honda customer service is no help"

Matthew K., VA (2015 Honda Civic LX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"System was disconnected when vehicle was serviced"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Honda Civic LX)

"Each of the problems are related to the car not being compatible with Android phones. Honda does not support 80 percent of the smartphone market and I had to wait until Android made a backwards compatible adjustment to the Nugent version of the operating system"
