Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Getting your first car is a big deal. Often your budget is constrained. You quickly realize that $22,000 doesn't go very far when shopping new and consider how low your expectations need to go. And then you start to debate whether a reliable used car might not make more sense. For those on this new vs. used fence, Honda offers the HR-V crossover, a subcompact sport utility (affectionately called a cute-ute in the industry) that contains all the right stuff for practical and affordable transportation.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2016 Honda HR-V owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Backup camera came loose. Fixed under warranty"

Anonymous, KS (2016 Honda HR-V 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Display screen freezes up

"Low air tire display won't go away, an independent mechanic cuoted a cost of $ 75 to put a new one in. I still have to go to honda dealer for an oil change and see what they have to say about it."

Jose L., NC (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Intermittent"

Anonymous, MB (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Operation of navigation system is not intuitive. Often spend as much time programming in a location or trip destination as the trip itself. I wish that my car did not have the navigation system"

Paul G., CO (2016 Honda HR-V EX-L 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Unit is too quirky to program before trips. I ignore it and use my i-phone and Google Maps."

Paul G., CO (2016 Honda HR-V EX-L 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"I would never purchase another HONDA product after this experience. The 2015 navigation system was conceived in NIgeria, Software design in Poland and installed in Japan. It is an absolute disaster. The most unintuitive robot device that I have ever encountered. Nothing works as you would expect it to work. Had help getting it going at the dealership at time of delivery and it never got any easier... even after looking at video and going back to dealership for help. On recent trip to California from Texas. We had to stop in New Mexico to get help to turn OFF the Robot Voice so we could hear our Garmin portable while making us of just the Honda display. Cannot believe that they actually installed this system in a Honda and felt it so valuable that company actually charged extra for its presence. I rent a LOT of cars while traveling and NONE ( Toyota, Nissan, Kia, VW, Ford, CHEVROLET, Cadillac, Jeep) have such a grotesquely dysfunctional navigation or mobile phone and contacts system."

Todd O., TX (2016 Honda HR-V EX-L 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"The navigation system is not intuitive to use, very complex to program destinations, not nearly as good as Apple's i-phone Siri navigation system. I no longer use the Honda system and refuse to pay to upgrade it."

Anonymous, CO (2016 Honda HR-V EX-L 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Bluetooth in car will not recognize my smartphone"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"My I Phone dials itself when I turn the car on and will not allow me to hang up. I have learned to turn the phone off completely and then turn it back on and the system resets itself for a couple of weeks."

Ronald N., RI (2016 Honda HR-V EX-L 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
Voice control commands

"I have a fairly new iPhone and the voice system will not work at all with the Honda blue tooth; I have to turn the blue tooth off to take a note, anything with the voice part of Siri when I am in the car."

Joan C., ME (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"Interior door or console???"

Anonymous, UT (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"rear window rattles and the front driver window became inoperable due to software issues. The cars motherboard was eventually replaced."

Hilary C., TX (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"The brake cylinders easily develop a coating that causes them to scrape and make a high pitched noise when driving. It is not bad in winter with windows shut, but in summer with windows open, it is very annoying."

Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda HR-V LX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"There is a ratte in front driver seat area that is increased on turns. Can not identify the cause but believe it is the car seat attachment"

Dennis M., TN (2016 Honda HR-V EX 1.8-L 4 Cyl)

"fan squeak or high pitch noise. Under warranty and repaired to our satisfaction at no cost to us."

Alfred M., CO (2016 Honda HR-V EX-L 1.8-L 4 Cyl)
