What Owners Say
"The CVT transmission hinders the acceleration of the vehicle."
Anonymous, NC (2016 Honda HR-V)"No acceleration at all but, it drives great"
Murray R., TX (2016 Honda HR-V)"Quick and nimble"
Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda HR-V)"Acceleration and handling is very good considering the vehicle type."
Anonymous, NC (2016 Honda HR-V)"Fun to drive in local traffic. Enough comfort for a medium length trip."
FREDERICK C., FL (2016 Honda HR-V)"Fun to drive comfortable and lot of features."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda HR-V)"when removing the key car stays in gear if you do not put the car in park"
Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda HR-V)"Despite reviews that say HRV is underpowered, I have not found it to be the case. I am a skier, and it performs very well in mountain driving. On steep hills, many cars cannot return to speed limit after a slow truck pulls in front, causing 30-40 mph decrease in speed. HRV has no problem returning to speed limit. CVT will increase RPM to >5K, if necessary, in drive. This is the 1st automatic transmission I have ever owned and I was skeptical that it would perform as well as a standard, but"
KAREN Y., CO (2016 Honda HR-V)"I was worried about the car being under-powered & having sluggish acceleration with the cvt transmission. What I found after driving From Florida to Texas & back (mostly flat roads & interstate) and then from Florida to Ohio & back (some mountains & back roads) is that the car is not any slower than our old Honda Civic. The CVT is very smooth without the high rpm's between shifts on a traditional transmission. We had no problems in normal driving in the city or on the highway."
DANIEL B., FL (2016 Honda HR-V)"For in city the power is ok ,but could have a little more for the highway.,handling is good over all"
AIME D., SK (2016 Honda HR-V)"Honda seems to have a habit of equipping their cars with performance that's just "adequate" but there's no "power reserve" which would allow it to accelerate when necessary without having to gear itself down to gain acceleration. My vehicle is equipped with the CVT and paddle shifters, should one want to pretend to have a "performance" driving stint. That said, the performance is "adequate" but not exemplary. This is the third Honda my family has driven, and all of them had this quirk of design."
WILLIAM M., CA (2016 Honda HR-V)"Not so good with passengers on board and up hills. Needs a little more HP than currently has. However normal driving with 2 passengers it is just fine. The steering has little or no feel to me, my wife loves it."
RICAHRD V., FL (2016 Honda HR-V)"Slow to accelerate, no pickup speed"
Anonymous, NC (2016 Honda HR-V)"sluggish acceleration and handling can be vague at times"
Anonymous, ON (2016 Honda HR-V)"great"
Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda HR-V)"CVT makes the vehicle noisy, I'd rather loose 1 mpg or 2 for a 6 speed automatic"
Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda HR-V)"STILL STANDOUT HONDA QUALITY. MANUFACTURED IN MEXICO NO PROBLEMS. DRIVING EXPERIENCE GOOD NO ISSUES FOR THIS OLD MAN."
Anonymous, QC (2016 Honda HR-V)"It's very zippy which is not what your magazine ratings have said about it. I don't find it slow or sluggish at all."
DONNA B., WA (2016 Honda HR-V)"Acceleration could be improved, however handling is fine."
Anonymous, UT (2016 Honda HR-V)"Excellent handling for an automatic!"
APRIL F., CA (2016 Honda HR-V)"iT HANDLES SMOOTHLY AND HAS A GREAT TURNING RADIUS AND HENCE WILL BE USEFUL IN TOWN."
RAVISHANKAR R., PA (2016 Honda HR-V)"the transmission responds slowly when you shift into..out of reverse."
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Honda HR-V)"ADEQUATE ACCELERATION AND VERY GOOD HANDLING"
Anonymous, IA (2016 Honda HR-V)"While it gets excellent gas mileage, acceleration is lagging. Entering and merging to highway speeds is a throwback to the 70's. This definitely needs a slight boost in power."
John H., NY (2016 Honda HR-V)"Excellent acceleration and handling. Ride is somewhat uncomfortable over long distances. Fine for around town driving and short trips"
Dennis M., TN (2016 Honda HR-V)"Not very powerful on acceleration, but it is a compromise for a small engine and I would rather have a slow acceleration and better fuel economy and less pollution."
Anonymous, NB (2016 Honda HR-V)"The only complaint is I was not used to how slow the acceleration is when trying to merge into traffice onto a highway from an on ramp. The car is otherwise peppy and handles well."
Rose D., RI (2016 Honda HR-V)"Car handles well. But it has no power on takeoff . Engine noise is loud. Brakes are soft."
Anonymous, DE (2016 Honda HR-V)"Handling is quite easy; car doesn’t accelerate extremely easily but does well and i feel safe in it."
Vicki S., CA (2016 Honda HR-V)"great excelleration!"
Roland' S M., ME (2016 Honda HR-V)"I find the acceleration very responsive & the handling is quite nimble."
P B., NY (2016 Honda HR-V)"The acceleration is amazing. I'm able to get up to highway speed quickly as I merge onto the highway traffic"
Anonymous, CO (2016 Honda HR-V)"Acceleration is barely adequate. Handling is excellent."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda HR-V)"The car is very responsive when turning & handling when driving through curves. Because I keep my car in the econo-mode, the acceleration is not great, but it's good enough to merge on highways without a problem. Good car driving experience."
Anonymous, SC (2016 Honda HR-V)"The HR-V hums along. It is not fast but is adequate and handles very well for an SUV."
David E., NC (2016 Honda HR-V)"Accelerates easy and fast to get on freeways. Good tight steering wheel and responsive Wheels."
Anonymous, OR (2016 Honda HR-V)"Excellent pick up, sure handling-responsive"
Anonymous, OH (2016 Honda HR-V)"Could have had a bigger engine"
Christine L., QC (2016 Honda HR-V)"Handles curves well... center of gravity seems low, which does improve handling. Drives much like a car. Somewhat under-powered... acceleration is sluggish... could really use a HP and torque boost. One of the newer Civic engines would be a great addition."
Anonymous, NL (2016 Honda HR-V)"The HRV handles very well, the only issue is acceleration is very slow."
Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda HR-V)"road noise is bad"
Anonymous, FL (2016 Honda HR-V)"always first off line - a great travelling car - handles well even on Interstate - heavy enough to drive with 18 wheelers without being blown around"
Anonymous, FL (2016 Honda HR-V)"I really like the handling - it is fun to drive. The acceleration is somewhat slow - it feels underpowered."
Jim L., IL (2016 Honda HR-V)"Acceleration is labored even with 2 passengers, with 5 you need to give yourself more space. Hill climbing really labors this engine/transmission. Braking is good, again full load labors this vehicle. Avoidance control works well steering comfortable for us. High speed good for us but a little sensitive lane changing be careful, very sensitive."
Richard V., FL (2016 Honda HR-V)"It drives very well.. I live in the mountains & have no trouble accelerating up the mountains. turns well; love it"
Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda HR-V)"The acceleration on this car is not great. If Honda had included a turbo engine in the HRV this vehicle would be perfect for my needs"
Carrie R., MA (2016 Honda HR-V)"Sufficient for this time in my life. A turbocharged engine would be nice and better lighting in the headlights."
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Honda HR-V)"The HR-V is substantially underpowered. And, the gas mileage is only two mpg better than the CR-V!"
Robert S., VT (2016 Honda HR-V)
"Needs the 1.5 litre engine that is in the civic and crv"
Anonymous, ON (2016 Honda HR-V)
