The redesigned Odyssey topped our minivan ratings, although this iteration of the Odyssey traded away some of the previous generation's crisp handling qualities for a more comfortable ride. The cabin is noticeably quieter too, although some road noise persists. The jazzier exterior styling reduced cargo space by a smidgen, but rear seating is generous and easy to access.

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. One significant flaw the unimpressive grip, which limits handling in emergency situations. While ultimately secure, Odyssey gives up early when pushed to its limits. A rear-view camera is standard on all trim lines.

"excessive wear of rotors"

Anonymous, MO (2013 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"In 5 years, had to redo break pads three times."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"Original front rotors lasted only 15000 miles (warped, extreme pulsating). Aftermarket rotors last less than 30000 miles."

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Major problem with brakes include disc warping requiring rotors to be turned and early replacement of caliper pads. Problem is represented by significant vibration to the point requiring pumping of the brakes to prevent overheating, resonance in the passenger compartment and vibration of the steering wheel. This problem is not covered under warranty and no brakes of improved quality have been recommended. As a side note, this problem also exists on our 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour."

"Brake rotor warped"

Anonymous, KY (2013 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Dean A., GA (2013 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"The brakes started a strong pulsing feedback in the steering abut 2 years ago. We've had it in for service, and they acknowledge that it does have a strong pulsing, but say there's noting wrong with it and it would be pretty expensive to fix... and it might come back... sooooo we live with it but aren't pleased."

Joseph N., MI (2013 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Brake rotors were warped in the front. This was the second time in the lifetime of the vehicle. The first time, they replaced the rotors under warranty. This time, I had to pay for resurfacing."

Anonymous, PA (2013 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"At about 57000 miles the odyssey developed a slight shimmy in the front end when brakes were applied. The Honda service department said the break rotors were "warped" and needed to be rotated. We had this done, but after another 4 to 5000 miles the shimmy returned. We again took the car to Honda service and again they said the front rotors were warped and again rotated them. "While on vacation the check engine light came on and a significant loss of power was experienced. Initially we took the vehicle to a general repair shop (not a Honda dealership) they replaced a spark plug and that seemed to fix the problem and we resumed our vacation. On the way home from our vacation we again experienced a loss of power and engine light. This time we took the car to a Honda dealership and were told this was known issue with this vehicle. We were told we needed short block replacement due to cylinder scoring. However, they said they couldn't do the work for several days so they simply replaced a spark plug and sent us on our way. We drove another 1000 miles and had the engine repair performed at our local Honda dealership. The repair bill was nearly $6,000, all but $800 was covered under warrantee."
