Premature brake wear

"After having pulsing and vibrating when braking, the rotors and pads were changed under warranty at around 30,000km. This has not recurred since."

Anonymous, (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Car experiences vibration on braking at high speeds. this seems to be a recurring problem. brakes are repaired and it happen again within a year."

Anonymous, (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"We bought this vehicle Honda certified and from nearly the beginning the steering wheel would shake when applying the brakes. We never had any grinding but after a couple years of dealing with the warped rotors we had the work done and haven't had any problems since. It was annoying to have this issue since the vehicle was nearly new, we purchased it was only around 14,000 miles"

Hartgraves T., IN (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"brakes needed total replacement at 55000 kms. most of my driving has been in town however, which may skew break wear."

David C., ON (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"It has had to have brake service twice since 2014. Apparently it’s weight is at the high end of the engineered capability of the brakes, therefore they tend to wear out early. I do not carry heavy loads so it is a design flaw, not me overloading the vehicle."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"After I had the pads and rotors replaced one year before, they wore out again. I am very easy on brakes, so it wasn't poor usage."

Judy E., TN (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"We found that the brake pads have to be replaced more frequently than other cars"

Philip J., CA (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Pulsating brakes resulted in turning the rotary, first time we have had to do this with any vehicle at such low mileage"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Problem with damaged brake pads caused by wrapped rotors. THe Dealer refused to cover pads under the warranty"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"see other comments"

Cathy L., TX (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"Caused shaking of the steering wheel if I applied brakes at a speed of 50 or over. This is what brought my attention to taking the van in and finding I needed new brakes and tire alignment"

Judy E., TN (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Suppose that goes along with the rotor wear"

Brian E., WI (2014 Honda Odyssey 3.5-L V6)
Pulsation or vibration

"This was the brake rotor issue"

Anonymous, (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Hesitation and stuttering experienced when accelerating, but trips to mechanics have not been able to diagnose."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"This started after 2 years with 15,000 miles. On average we put 6,000 miles a year, no towing, seldom heavy loads, 65% stop and go - 35% highway. I am neither a lead foot or wait to the last second to apply brakes to come to a stop. The fix is new front pads and rotors every 2 years to get rid off the pulsating problem. I have tired different rotor manufactures (wagner, bendix, raybestos) but after about 2 years the pulsation comes back. I even lubricate the caliper slide /bolts every year, and the caliper slides back/forth smoothly. Best I can figure is undersized rotors for size/weight of odyssey."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"When we purchased this car (used, about 48,000 miles on it), the brakes pulsed slightly upon light application. The Honda dealer turned the rotors and said they would need to be replaced if the problem returned. the pulsation returned after about two years (about 13,000 miles). I replaced the rotors and pads, and the pulsation ceased. (The pads were less than half worn; I replaced them only because it was recommended to replace them when replacing the rotors.)"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors warp easily. There have been an updated design but this is still a common problem."

Anonymous, OH (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Noticed a pulsation in the brake system that required both rotor and caliper and brake pad replacement."

Anonymous, ME (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Braking was slow & sluggish. If I had to break quickly, the car would vibrate."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Had to replace the rotors. Previously resurfaced the rotors at about 30,000 miles, now had to replace the rotors."

Anonymous, CO (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Brakes seem to need to be removed and turned on a brake lathe. When they get hot, they shimmy and pulsate as though warped."

Anonymous, (2014 Honda Odyssey Unsure 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors wrapped causing the brakes to pulsate when hot"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Brakes very irritating when pulsating, appears to be an ongoing issue with Honda"

Alan M., OH (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Before 50000 miles I had Honda turn rotors 3 times. Each time the pulsation and vibration returned. I had a private company turn the rotors and have not had difficulty. Honda just couldn't satisfy my requirement. Poor workmanship."

Richard H., SC (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"I replaced the brakes (pads and rotors) at 45,000 miles due to the vibration coming from the brakes. Now at 57,000 miles, I still have the same problem."

Robert C., TX (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"My wife (always the wife's fault right :-D). She did a long decent using the brakes rather than letting he transmission downshift. I just have to replace the front rotors. I know that the 2014 Odyssey's have a problem with this anyway so it's not really her fault. I plan to do a brake job this weekend."

Anonymous, MT (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The car shakes badly when braking. I've had the rotors and pads entirely replaced once. Six months later, the same problem occurred, and I need to have it fixed again."

Anonymous, UT (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The front rotors on this car became warped with fewer than 25,000 miles of use. The dealer claimed that this was normal and not covered by warranty. The pulsation worsened until finally, at about 60,000 miles, the rotors had to be replaced."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"We have had the front brakes replaced twice in the first 80,000 miles due to pulsating. It seems to only take one hard braking episode to cause the rotors to warp. We had third party rotor put on the second time and the issue has not recurred."

Anonymous, GA (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"At 14,000 miles the bakes started to pulsate, pretty annoying considering it came in at around $50k."

Michael H., CA (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Happens at high speed. I have read that Honda improved the rotor design to prevent warping."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"When braking at freeway speed the bakes vibrate as though the rotor is warped."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Honda Odyssey 3.5-L V6)

"Reoccurring problem with vibration. Rotors need to be turned too often."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Honda Odyssey 3.5-L V6)
Rotors

"Had to plane warpped rotors twice. Because of this I had the total brakes replaced in May 2019 because I wass to be going on along trip in June 2019. I also replaced all my tires as they were 5 years old."

Anonymous, ON (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"For the second time since we have owned the van, we have had to have the rotors machined. Otherwise, we get considerable vibration when breaking. We've never had this problem with any other vehicle, and we know another Odyssey owner that has had the same problem. Apparently, Honda is using substandard parts to other manufacturers. Due to this, we will never buy another Honday."

Anonymous, (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The rotors warp. I have had them fixed once under warranty and they need replaced again. I feel the brakes are under designed, ie too small, for the weight/size of the vehicle."

Anonymous, KS (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Actually experience over life of vehicle. 3x replace rotors. My understanding is that the rotors are too small"

Anonymous, (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The mechanic found them to be badly warped, more so than he would expect."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The rotors were the cause of the pulsation, which I have already discussed."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Had vibration in rotors off and on for years when braking. One Honda service rep suggested we were driving with foot on brake. When I mentioned no issues with other vehicles the past 45 years there was simply silence in response. Honda resurfaced once and we ultimately had new rotors installed elsewhere."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors were warped causing a vibration when braking, this was the second time for this problem so the rotors couldn't be machined and needed to be replace"

Anonymous, (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Front Rotors warped repeatedly. They were replaced twice under warranty and then once as a "courtesy" by Honda. The last time the front rotors warped I had them replaced by my mechanic with "performance" rotors, which have been fine ever since. The front rotors are a weak spot on this car."

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"I have had the rotors machined several times to the point where I was warned about reaching a point of not being able to do that anymore. I complained that I had chronic vibration with braking, especially at high speeds and was deeply concerned about safety with my family in the car. Researched the issue and was surprised that rotors warping on Odyssey's was perceived as a metallurgical issue and that kits were available that resisted the heat and did not warp. My Honda dealer, who has been really good to us, said there was nothing they could offer, so I paid for the rotor upgrade and magically the issue has totally disappeared. It was $1,133.00 to replace brakes and rotors on all four wheels, but think it was worth it. The Odyssey has been nothing short of amazing for us since 2014."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Had to change rotors and brakes after 15000 miles. Honda would fix the problem. Poor original rotors was the issue."

Anonymous, KY (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"The rotors wrapped causing the brakes to pulsate when hot."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The rotors have warped multiple times since owning the vehicle. I had them fixed under warranty and they need repaired again."

Tim M., KS (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"When we got the car we complained about the shaking when braking, but Honda did nothing, so we replaced the rotors with the recommended replacement. We needed to replace AGAIN one year later and auto parts would only sell the top of the line rotors for our honda, so we knew the rotors were faulty.. Brakes still aren't great, but haven't had to replace since then."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"rotors warped at 20000 miles.I am NOT an aggressive driver. Replaced with aftermarket rotors at half of Honda's $860 quoted replacement price."

Anonymous, AL (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"I am getting ready to replace my rotors for the 4 time in 5 years. They warp quickly after hard high speed braking. Have not had this problem with other vehicles and similar braking"

Anonymous, IL (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors were designed incorrectly and Honda would not do anything to fix the problem. They finely changed the rotor design and the new ones have worked very well so far. Only time will tell if it was really fixed. Customer had to pay to get this issue fixed."

David D., SC (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"The front rotors are not built to stand up to the weight of the vehicle and so it develops pulsing and vibrations when slowing down quickly on the highway. This happened even after the first couple of years"

Anonymous, MD (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"When traveling down hill in mountainous regions at a 6% incline and using the brakes, the vehicle shakes so bad that it is difficult to hold on to the steering wheel. This has been happening since about 6,000 miles on the car. I have had 3 different Honda service centers examine the brakes and all tell me there is nothing wrong with the brakes. This also happens when I travel long distances in a day, traveling at about 70 miles per hour, and then exiting the highway and applying the brakes. The shaking may not be as bad as when in the mountains but it is still pretty bad."

Daniel B., AZ (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Front rotors warped at about 22,000 miles causing a front end shimmy when braking at highway speeds. The dealership claimed due to hard braking but I know that wasn't the case, brake pads are still good and Honda came out with a new rotor design with more cooling. They offered to turn the rotors but my research showed that they would warp again in a few thousand miles. Opted to replace with the redesigned rotors at my own expense $450. After writing to Honda they did send me a gift card for $150 but I'm disappointed in Honda for not addressing a design flaw!"

Dirk S., PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The front rotors warped and had to be repaired."

Tim M., KS (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors wore unevenly so that brakes pulsed when stopping. Rotors had to be replaced."

Anonymous, OH (2014 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Front Rotors had to be trued at 25000 miles and then replaced by Honda at 35000 miles"

Anonymous, IA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"When I bought the car the front rotors warped withing a few drives on the highway. It was covered under the used car warranty, brakes and rotors. Then the rear brakes made noise. I replaced the rotors, brakes and one of the caliper pins was frozen. I cleaned it up, put honda brakes and rotors on. Stopped perfect after this."

Roger L., PA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"I was experiencing front wheel shake through the steering wheel when braking at highway speed as though the rotors were warped. Honda turned rotors at 16K and at 27K for the same issue. I had a private shop turn rotors at 37K for the same shaking issue. Right now I have had rotors turned for warping 4 time. Honda dealer wanted to replace rotors and pads at a cost of $520. My response was why should I trust Honda's replacement parts when they couldn't fix original equipment? Parts are bad or technicians don't pay attention. I have a case number from Honda as I registered my complaint. Honda needs a recall."

Richard H., SC (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The rotors warped after 20000 miles. They were not covered under extended warranty and should have been a recall part."

Tommy C., TN (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"warped rotars"

Anonymous, KY (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Replaced rotors at our expense, known problem with these vehicles, dealer did not offer to get assistance with this. Honda should have a recall given the high rate of warped rotors."

Mark C., CA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"uneven wear caused steering wheel to shake while braking especially at highway speeds."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Wind noise

"On most highways, the noise in the Odyssey is always above 80db, and as the speed gets to 65mph, the noise level can often be above 98db. Noise level makes driving the car for any distance that takes an hour frustrating. It also makes conversation with another front seat person nearly impossible unless we speak louder than what is comfortable. This car has had this problem since new. Our Dealer told us that all Odysseys have a high cabin noise level, and they can't help us reduce it. This car also had the paint on the roof and the right-side of the read lift-door blow off in chunks. After a lot of effort, we were able to get Honda to pay to have those areas repainted. Having two significant issues with a vehicle is the reason why I won't get another Odyssey again."

"Shifting gears was very noticeable and sometimes rough, particularly if decelerating and then accelerating shortly after the deceleration. Honda service techs said they did a computer update about 9 months ago and shifting has been normal since that time. Actually, it now shifts better than when it was new."

"Sometimes the transmission would slam into gear when downshifting or when starting up from a dead stop."

Anonymous, CT (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Shifting went from smooth to rough and got worse. Dealer did burnishing of transmission and it was better, but not really like new. It still clunks loudly sometimes when put in gear and fails to engage for a seconds often."

"Rough shifting turned out to be fixed by a recall notice."

Michael M., MD (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Terrible problem with shifting. The problem is most noticeable then slowing down - coasting and then accelerating and / or when turning right and accelerating. The transmission is unable to determine which gear to select. At times there is a very loud bang and lurching sensation. I am currently working with a law firm and this is a big litigation. I'm surprised CR has not been mentioning it as I have informed you in previous annual reports. I have been a member of CR since the mid 1980's."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Corrected by a transmission fluid change. The maintenance schedule does not call for a fluid change but fluid was worn out by 60000. There also is no mechanism for the owner to check the transmission fluid level or visually inspect the transmission fluid condition."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Rough shifting and transmission computer are related. When slowing down to under 10 mph and then accelerating the transmission would make a clunking noise and a hard shift into gear. It took two trips to the dealer to figure out that there was a memo on this problem, which was caused by the computer. The computer adj was made and it has operated fine since then."

Ellen H., WI (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"From time to time the transmission acts as if it is not fully engaged. It upshifts too early and downshifts too early as well. In those cases, driving seems to be less lively. When the transmission is woking well the ca is very responsive. The dealer can't figure it out. Flushing the transmission seems to help. One funny thing: when the transmission is working well the brakes work better. Figure that one out. Is the transmission somehow connected to the power brake booster?"

"Accepts pairing of two phones but defaults to only one consistently when calling out. No user friendly way to other than default phone."

Anonymous, GA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The system screen displays "unable to import call history" or contacts every time you turn on the car. The menu for "phone" has disappeared. Calls still come through the hands free feature, but only the number comes up, not the contact."

"Phone pairing is inconsistent."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Mictophone in phone system would not pick up on voice commands. It still doesn't intermittently and the volume on the system has to be jacked up uncomfortably high in order to hear anyone when talking through the phone system hands free in the car. I can hear them when talking but after it is necessary to turn down the volume as forgetting that means a painfully loud volume on the radio."

"My wife cannot pair her Samsung Galaxy S4 to the van. I have tried as well with her phone with no success"

Jesse H., WA (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"the connection is not always reliable and the interface does not allow pairing while the car is in motion. If someone is calling you or you need to make a call and the Bluetooth fails, you have to pull over, restart the car and re-pair the phone"

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"There is a deafening amount of road noise picked up by the Bluetooth connection that makes it nearly impossible for the people on the other end to hear me some times. Honda does not have a solution and says they can't find anything wrong"

Anonymous, OR (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"iPhone IS paired to the vehicle. But, when the phone rings, the car system wants to switch back to my phone instead of communicating over the car system. Usually lose most calls. iPhone is paired also with my hearing aids. Not sure the car can handle two bluetooth signals in the car at the same time"

Voice control commands

"System is confused by voice commands, especially on outgoing calls. Responds with nonsensical directions."

Anonymous, GA (2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Unexpectedly switches phone calls from speaker to private. Also takes too long to relay vocal commands to phone, so the phone stops listening before the Honda microphone activates and relays the command."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"The voice command controls are non-intuitive and frustrating. The mike is inaccurate and so this voice 'safety' system is actually much more distracting from driving as menu options are blocked --very bad system"
