Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Honda Odyssey owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Very hard to see to the point of being mostly useless"

David M., CO (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)
Display screen difficult to see

"When it is sunny, which it is most of the time in AZ it is difficult to see the upper screen and the backup features. On the lower screen it is very awkward to see as you have to take your eyes off the road for long periods of time in order to perform a task. Very unsafe. Very poor design"

M J., AZ (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The transmission downshifts with a jerk between the lowest 'gears'. Display Screen & Radio; Safety issue - must watch screen to change channels. This unsafe. Must use manual to program stations. This is too difficult: previous Honda radios worked"

Anonymous, TX (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

"Display screen sometimes freezes up until the next time I restart the car. Potential safety issue if I wish to make an emergency call from the car controls. Also will sometimes block the blind spot camera from displaying."

Joseph N., MA (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"When I made a right turn the camera came on and wouldn't reset when the turn signal was returned to normal. When I backed down my driveway the back up camera came on and wouldn't return to normal when I put the car in drive. The dealer was not able to tell why this happened. In both instances I turned the ignition off at the next stoplight and the condition then returned to normal."

Terry S., MN (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"The display systems are terrible in both Hondas. I would like them to return to more knobs."

Anonymous, ME (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"when it rains hard my radio display screen goes blank"

John R., IN (2015 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"A couple of times back-up camera was blank and a few times when I turned my right turn signal on, the camera on the passenger side of the van was blank and/or responded very slowly."

Florence B., MI (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"The display for the car entertainment system will randomly go black. The only workaround that we have is to turn off the car and turn it on again. That isn't always an option when driving on the highway. I believe the problem occurs when it the side camera for blind spots is activated."

Johnny R., IL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Same as previous problem. The screen displays are hard to work, are useless and need to return to the old fashion knobs."

Anonymous, ME (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Navigation system has had problems since purchased the vehiclw. Besides the voice command not following instructions, the locater of services only works on 1/8 th of mile or less and Handa's own people didn't know this when I called. Reference to this limitation is located in the back of the manual in a very short couple of sentences. Maps are several years old. Have had roads not located on map that are over 5 years old even though I had latest software and map update. This system can't compare"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"you can not control the voice volume on the GPS. When driving on the highway, you can not hear the GPS direction command (too noisy in the vehicle at higher speeds and the volume can not be increased; or decreased?). Honda dealership mechanics said there is no volume for their GPS"

Anonymous, MD (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Far too complicated to use, unreliable driving directions"

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Odyssey 3.5-L V6)

"Disc info not handy. Needed to print out 52 pages. Still cannot use navigation. Still use Garmin with suction cup on nav screen.Whole car computerized and cannot use while driving as screen calls for eyes to be taken off road. If I had known this car"

Anonymous, TN (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"inaccurate MAPS operation of Nav, phone, when driving"

Anonymous, SC (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"My wife and I both have iPhones. I have a iPhone 7 plus and my wife ahs a iPhone 6S plus. We both have encountered issues with Bluetooth pairing with the radio where it will not connect or take up to 5 minutes to pair. There are also occasional issues where the radio has issues maintaining a connection with Bluetooth. It will usually correct itself after a few minutes, but can be an issue when on a call"

Johnny R., IL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"It will not dial the phone number I verbally ask it to whether I am driving or a passenger. Sometimes it is extremely hard to hear/understand what people say"

Anonymous, AR (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Sometimes doesn't work"

Anonymous, AB (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

Peter B., CA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"was told the iphone has problems paring with this vehicle... had to stop using iphone, because it inactived some features and turned on others"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"I was able to pair my phones (iPhone and an LG) and an iPod and an iPad to the system but several months ago it suddenly dropped linkage to everything but the iPhone. I have not been able to re-establish linkage and no-one at the dealership is able to help me."

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, OH (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"The weatherstrip around the windshield on the passenger side had lots of wind noise before it blew off while driving on an Interstate. A new weatherstrip was installed and the problem is now resolved - no more excess wind noise"

Anonymous, AZ (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Squeaks or rattles

"The B-pillar and the front bushings and rear bushings made a lot of noise and had to be replaced and repaired"

Anonymous, PA (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"The Honda sometimes sounds as if something is getting dislodged when I hit a bump in the road or when backing out of the driveway. There have been several times when I've actually stopped the vehicle and gotten out to verify that nothing is hanging loose or dripping for the vehicle. I hear it the most when going into or out of the garage"

Johnny R., IL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"I have a lot of squeaks coming from my car after 38K miles. They started at about 10K miles in. I don't think a van close to 40K in MSRP should do this. Perhaps the techs should be trained on addressing these items as part of maintenance to provide more peace of mind for a vehicle that is supposed to be #1 in it's class"

Allister B., GA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Front seats, armrests make terrible clicking sounds when putting any weight on them. Local Honda dealer says it's normal and refuses to service or replace. That is unacceptable. The loud, click, click, click, sound is very annoying"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, OH (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"struts made noise, had to be replaced"

Joy R., NC (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Sounded like styrofoam squeaking, dealer fixed it"

Anonymous, TX (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Suspension is very noisy when you hit a bump. Additionally, when the car has a full to half a tank of gas, you can hear the gas moving/swooshing around when you drive, turn or park"

Jose L., FL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Wind noise is very bad"

Dean C., NE (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Metal to metal noise. Sounds as if something is loose. Honda dealer cannot hear it. I can and so can others. Noise reminds me of loose exhaust/tailpipe/muffler I experienced in previous, older cars I have owned."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

". Passenger side sliding door creaking sound when starting from a stop. Not related to sealsor weather stripping. Dealer service dept. unable or unwilling to fix. . Rear small seat rumbles caused by loose fitting rod with ball joints. Dealer service dept. unable or unwilling to fix. These noises are very irritating during low speed driving. The vehicle is a rattle trap."

Anonymous, SC (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Wind noise

"Cannot hear or talk in van on the highway-- worst vechicle"

Myles T., IN (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"At 40 mph the wind noise is terrible. I went back to the dealer and the Service Manager went for a ride with me and agreed with me, but, he also stated he didn't sell them, he only fixed them but could not dd anything with this..When taking a test drive, I had to stay in the parking lot for some reason or other so top speed was about 10 mph. After a few lies, my wife who was affected by Alzheimers said let's take it and go home. Ergo I bought the doggone thing and have regretted it ever since"

William G., AL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Even with the windows closed it is noisy. When you open the window it is very noisy even at slow speeds. My 2003 was much quieter"

M J., AZ (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Terrible wind noise around the windshield"

Dean C., NE (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Road noise is the only complaint I have about this Honda. This is my second one. Knowing it is not cool to own a mini van it can’t be beat for comfort, space, and ease of driving."

Carol R., TX (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Wind and road noise can get pretty loud in the cabin"

Alex L., GA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, OK (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Too much wind noise on highway"

Joseph O., NY (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"THe 2015 Honda Odyssey I bought in November, last year was my third one starting in 2003. All 3 models have excessive internal road noise from traveling vehicles and weather wind gusts"

Anonymous, IL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"wind noise around the windshield and waternoise under rear doors"

Robert D., OH (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Noise levels on freeway is high. while driving, i cannot hear my son talk to me from the third row, and i have to turn off the audio to listen to him. Acoustic windshield would have probly helped"

Thirulokesh K., TX (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"THE INTERIOR NOISE CAUSED BY THE WIND IS ENOUGH TO MAKE CONVERSATION WITH THE OCCUPANTS OF THE BACK SEATS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. I CONSTANTLY AM CHECKING TO INSURE THE WINDOWS ARE FULLY CLOSED."

Pat J., AZ (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Premature brake wear

"Pads had to be replace much sooner than I expected"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Gas pedal and brake are too close compared to other vehicles I have owned/driven over the last four decades. Sometimes my foot inadvertently winds up touching both the gas and the brake."

Joseph N., MA (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"I dont know what came first. Bad calipers? Bad rotors? Also premature wearing out of set of tires @ less than 30,000 miles."

Anonymous, MA (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Within 12000 miles, downhill braking shaking. I took it to dealer who said I must be riding the breaks too much. Not true, I am a good driver. Brakes repaired but I had to pay."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)
Pulsation or vibration

"This problem started occurring at about 35,000 miles on the vehicle. I have never owned a vehicle where I had a problem with pulsations in the brakes when braking. It became quite severe, and when I took it in they told me my rotors were warped. There was little wear on the brake pads, either front or rear. It was a quite expensive repair, and rotors were not replaced, but turned. Reviewing the internet regarding this problem indicates that others have experienced the same problem on this vehicle. Being an engineer and having experience in vehicle brakes, it appears to me that the rotors were not designed well enough to dissipate the heat developed under normal driving conditions. It is frustrating that Honda seems to consider this normal wear, and is not supporting customers with resolving the issue. Apparently there is a newly designed rotor that is better vented that corrects this problem. The other issue I have is that the problem will most likely reoccur prematurely since the rotors were only turned and not replaced. I hope that I will trade in the vehicle before that happens."

Paul R., NC (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Pulsation on brake pedal and steering wheel. I replaced rotors"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Front rotors started warping in less than a year, replaced rotors and pads at the dealer. Driving was normal, neither spouse or I ride our brakes. Then, it happened again within 8 months, had to replace front set again. After research, determined that many Odyssey owners have the same problem, but Honda will not acknowledge the problem. The only solution was to purchase specialty drilled and slotted rotors that dissipate heat adequately. The Odyssey is a heavy vehicle chassis with only 13.3 inch rotors. The only way to avoid warping in normal driving was to purchase high performance-type rotors. We have spoken to many persons who have had similar problems with the Odyssey. Very disappointed in Honda. Would still have this problem if we had not researched ourselves."

Stephen L., TX (2015 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)
Rotors

"Rotors required resurfacing with just 15,000 miles. Very unusual"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Had to have rotors turned at 35,000 and replaced at 56,000. 3rd Odyssey I had to do this too. Low quality rotors"

Robert P., NE (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors on rear had to be replace due to being warped and causing significant vibration"

Stephen L., TX (2015 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"We had a problem with the rotors TWICE. The dealership claims that the rotors warp from the heat created while braking. The brakes would chatter when stopping. we had to pay to have them machined. Never had this in any car before."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Front rotors were bumpy and worn, causing vibration while braking at 56000 miles. The brake pads were not worn much, but I had to replace both rotors and pads at this mileage. Feel that should not have been required for about 20-30,000 miles more."

Debra B., VA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors required replacement prematurely"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The rotors warped within less than a year, causing pulsation of the brakes and less effective braking."

Anonymous, ON (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"There is s shimmy when braking from high speeds. It is more pronounced when the steering wheel is slightly turned."

Anonymous, SD (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors went bad after 24 months of operation. Warranty only covers 12 months. The told me I must be a hard driver. That is a joke; everyone tells me I drive like a grandma. Two mechanics told me the wear was suspect (whey weren't the break pads wearing? why the rotors so fast?) but Honda refused to pay for even the parts to replace."

Anonymous, WI (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"We have completely replaced our brake rotors and pads twice in the first 3 years of owning the van--very unusual. The rotors (either factory or aftermarket) warp after only a few thousand miles of use. After research, discovered this is a very common problem among owners, but Honda will not admit the problem exists or issue a recall. Very disappointed. This was our third Honda, but probably our last for awhile."

Stephen L., TX (2015 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)
Squeaking

"Absolutely the worst mini-van I have ever owned, we came out of a Toyota Van have had Chrysler and even Ford mini -vans all with happy results, we have a big family. You have to talk extremely loud in order to be heard over the road noise, we usually try to take my truck if there's only 4 people going so you can enjoy the trip. The passenger side sliding door acts as if it is in a bind, the front end rattles and sounds as if its going to come out, there is always new squeaks and noises coming fr"

Myles T., IN (2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Front disk brakes squeak loudly every time brakes are applied. Took it to the Honda dealer and was told that they were in good shape. Irritating."

Anonymous, OK (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"SINCE IT WAS NEW THE BRAKES HAVE GIVEN OFF A SQUEAK WHICH NO MECHANIC SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO FIX! I ALSO GET A CLICKING SOUND WHICH OCCURES AFTER THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AS IF THE CALIPERS WERE RELEASING AFTER THE CAR WAS STOPPED."

Pat J., AZ (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"This problem comes and goes, and while it doesn't happen "excessively", it has left us stranded once, so we towed it to dealer, who reported NOTHING WAS WRONG. The problem just went away? It is reminiscent of our last Odyssey (2006) that had major unsolvable transmission problems, even after replacement"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Starting out on cool mornings, the vehicle would surge forward then lug down for 10 seconds when accelerating from a stop and then be fine for several days. The service shop said there is a TSB out there for this and is transmission related. No fix at the present time but waiting on a software update in the future. Service shop replaced the transmission fluid as a stop-gap measure"

Mark L., MN (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"At one time, the transmission started shifting with a loud clunk and continued doing so for several miles until reaching home. The next day, it was taken to a Honda dealer for diagnosis and it shifted normally all the way to the dealer, and the dealer could find no problem with it after a day of testing and diagnosis. And the problem is never recurred"

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Same as previous. Dealer says nothing wrong"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"From the first 6 months of owning this vehicle, we experienced intermittent rough shifting. When it happens, the transmission makes a very loud noise and lurches at low speeds. We found that if we turn off the car and restart it, it will go away. We brought it in to Honda dealers/mechanics for warranty work several times but it has not been fixed. I suspect this problem also led to a warning light that appeared one time for the transmission. I do not remember the exact code but it was transmission related. It happened around 60000 miles and we are waiting to see if it turns back on. From searching online, it appears there are others that have experienced similar failures. Have not heard of a reliable fix. Also - this vehicle calls for a partial transmission fluid change every 30000 miles. None of my previous vehicles required a change this often. It has usually been closer to 100000 miles."

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Alarm or security system (excluding aftermarket systems)

"Suffered random problems where alarm would activate if I locked car with dome light in door position. This resulted in a dent in the front right fender when I kicked the car out of frustration. After years of being unable to replicate the problem a service advisor from another dealership said he had seen this problem once before and the culprit was the door related sensor slips from its mount and water collects in it. The advisor told me that happened on my vehicle because he personally saw the part when he showed it to the mechanic. Service advisor said unit would be replaced but repair comments on service record said they dried it out and remounted it. Months later the alarm doesn’t go off unexpectedly when light is in door position. This is good. Door closing beeps worked for a few months but are now silent. There is a problem that if you press the open rear hatch button on the remote when the car is locked the alarm sounds. Honda has told me that behavior is by design. SERIOUSLY. Why would anyone want to open the rear lift gate and have the alarm go off. Honda just doesn’t want to admit I have a vehicle with system problems they can’t fix. Last year year during the hottest part of summer I parked the Sienna and heard a LOUD cracking noise. The windshield had cracked. It was the middle layer that cracked. The outer layers on the inside and outside are undamaged. There isn’t any sign of rock damage on the front windshield. It will cost over $1,000 to fix it. I decided I could live with the crack until I could buy another vehicle. But the crack is starting to get bigger.. When the 2020 Toyota Sienna is released a few months from now I am buying one of those. I hope my windshield will last that long so I don’t have to replace it. I don’t trust Honda’s reliability or capability to fix advanced systems and will NEVER buy another Honda. Toyota has never let me down. The ONLY reason we bought the Honda is that the Toyota Sienna didn’t have removable second row seats on the 2015 model. If the seats were removable nobody at the Toyota dealership knew how to do it. The other thing I don’t like about the Sienna is the drivers compartment seems cramped. The Odyssey seemed to be more spacious. Regardless I’m counting the days to the release of the 2020 Sienna when I can dump my Odyssey."

What Owners Say

CV joint

"CV joints failed while under warranty. Dealer refused to cover it, since the van had been wrecked and repaired. They claimed it has a Rebuilt title.
