Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2019 Honda Odyssey owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Android Auto

"This feature just doesn't work as intended. Cannot make calls, constantly get message that phone book is being updated, doesn't recognize contacts in phone book. Some say it's because we have an Android, but I find that hard to believe. No one at Honda has been able to fix the problem."

Anonymous, FL (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"There have been several times where it failed to connect when I am using the same phone each time."

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Often have to reboot my phone to get Android Auto to connect."

Mike A., WA (2019 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)
Apple CarPlay

"Same as previous issue."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"We try to use Apple car play. It is awkward to use and then locks up. You have to plug it in instead of Bluetooth."

Anonymous, OR (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Sometimes Apple play will not work and I have to use a Bluetooth connection to listen to music from my phone. Fortunately I have Amazon music as well as Apples ITunes."

Anonymous, GA (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The infotainment system froze, I had to plug a keyboard and reset the system."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Will not pair with i phone"

Joyce B., TX (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Backup or other camera/sensors

"Backup camera stopped working"

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"This will frequently freeze or not turn on at all. Frequent trips to the dealership and they are unable to fix this."

Anonymous, MN (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
CD player

"Warranty replacement by Honda dealer"

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

"display would freeze and would not shut off even when the car is, screen would over heat and the only way of stopping it was to disconnect the entertainment system from the power."

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"We have a glitchy 2019 Odyssey. The service dept said they had to buy back a couple at their dealership because the problem could not be fixed and the customers wanted to get rid of the vehicles. The display screen and Apple CarPlay freeze and stop working sporadically. When that happens the screen does not shut down when the vehicle is turned off. Therefore the battery becomes drained and the car can not be started. I have had to have a professional come out and jump start my car. The problem keeps happening even after each software update that I am told is hopefully going to fix the problem. I reached out to American Honda to try to get a replacement (this is the most expensive item I own second to my house). I am very dissatisfied."

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Honda display has random issues, including freezing up (even after power down) or losing some functionality. Solution ended up being plugging in a USB keyboard and pressing Ctr + Alt + Del to reboot it. No kidding. But why is there no on/off or system reset button?"

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"It's an intermittent problem.pros couldn't fix. To resolve it I have stop, turn off vehicle for two minutes and restart."

Anonymous, AB (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Display will either freeze or stop working. To get it to work you need to put the car in park, turn off the car open the door, wait 5 seconds and close the door. There is no simple way to reset the system as I have had in other vehicles."

Anonymous, FL (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"This problem started the day I first drove the car. When the screen freezes, I am unable to adjust the volume of the radio - even turn it off, I can't adjust the heating/ac system and it has happened where recycled air has fogged up the windshield and I almost couldn't see to drive. There are times that the backup camera screen freezes. The in cabin camera never works for more than 30 seconds, it'll freeze or go black. There is a constant crackling sound when I connect my phone. Also, when I'm on my phone it will randomly decide to mute me and I have to hang up and call the person back on my phone without being connected. Frequently I will not have a radio. This is definitely a car issue. I've had this car at the dealership 6 times for these issues. They have denied finding a problem, then finally they said that they replaced the display system which they didn't because all of my information was still saved and the problems continued. 40+ hours alone trying to fix this issue with no resolution. This is the 6th Honda I've owned and based on the trouble that I've had with the last 2 Honda's, I'm done! Probably going back to Toyota."

Anonymous, MN (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Its happened more than 5 times. you have to pull the circuit breaker to get the system to work again. when the system freezes it will not turn off, requiring you to pull the breaker in order to ensure it does not drain the battery. The dealership seems clueless as to how to get it fixed, though they have tried."

Jeff D., OK (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"touch screen not sensitive. push button repeatedly."

Mike A., WA (2019 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"The Cabincontrol camera system keeps freezing. Only way it would come back on if the car is turned off completely and turned back on, then the cycle keeps repeating itself. Along with this, the rear entertainment system keeps crashing or losing audio."

Mohammad S., VA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"The screen will go blank for 10 sometimes 60 seconds. Also the radio at times will stop working and a display will say "check tuner", or I think "not operational" or "error message". Can't recall the second for sure."

Anonymous, IN (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Infotainment crashes and the screen go off. Dealer was not able to fix it, they know about it but there is no software fix yet."

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Any time phone was plugged in, it did not always connect. When it did connect, it would work temporarily but then stop working. Problem was not the cord connection between the phone and USB outlet. Problem was the system itself. It just doesn't work all the time. Issue was temporarily fixed by dealership repair shop but issue has returned."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Device shows speed limit of 30mph on northern most 70 miles of California, on I - 5 Freeway. Won't find address in Hemet, CA that Google Maps, Mapquest and Portable Garmin (this is same brand in Odyssey) device can find."

Anonymous, WA (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Unclear when talking on cell phone"

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Radio

"Satellite radio antenna continues to be problematic. Has been in for repairs three times."

Anonymous, VA (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Have had radio problems from the beginning. Radi would lock up and sometimes go in and out. Have had item checked at dealer and it is better now but still occasionally it still locks up and sometimes the apple play does not work."

Anonymous, GA (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"see previous. Sometimes the radio will go out 10 to 60 seconds however the screen will stay on. Other times without the radio on the screen will still go blank. Some far it has always returned in a few seconds."

Anonymous, IN (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Everything is tied into the touchscreen radio. Often times it says audio is unavailable and so there is no sound, for anything! Sometimes the Android auto freezes up and will not recognize the same phone I always use. There have been times when the parking sensors fail which makes the blind spot and lane keep assist unavailable as well. Honda has replaced sensors twice and it keeps happening intermittently. The rear-view camera failed to work but then it just popped back on magically. I believe it is all tied to the radio touch screen unit that controls everything."

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Satellite radio antenna defective."

Anonymous, VA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

"Satellite radio reception ceases if car is chilly (35 deg or less) conditions."

Anonymous, VA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
Rear entertainment system (e.g., DVD player, rear screen)

"Same comments here as with freeze screen"

Anonymous, AB (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"Stops playing a movie half way through.. seems to need to download as spinning icon appears. Van has to be stopped and turned off for a couple of minutes to correct."

Anonymous, AB (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"RES does not always work. 1. occasionally it will provide sound correctly (to headphones or speakers) 2. if the nightvision camera is on, the system often freezes and becomes unusable 3. very slow to load movies. If you need to view the menu, you need to stop and move to the back seat."

Jeff H., MA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
Software update fixes

"The entire system glitched and the computer thought that the car was both in motion/parked, on and off. System remained on despite car being turned off. Brought it in and the only way to fix was to reset by pulling the fuse. They said it needed a software fix that hadn't been created yet."

Anonymous, CT (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Speakers

"The speakers crackle randomly, and independent of whether or not i am listening to anything. I brought in the vehicle, according to the dealer Honda engineers are working on this issue, but it cannot be fixed with replaced stereo, replaced wiring harness, etc etc"

Anonymous, CT (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Steering wheel controls

"The automatic control of my steering is a major problem. For example, when driving along with no traffic the car suddenly brakes and a message flashes on the dash screen. This has happened numerous times, and once when a car was following me. I’m sure he had some choice words for me! Lane violations is another indicator that seems to have a mind of its own."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"I have had my vehicle since New. Around the 10,000km mark my van started to seem as though the gears would slip around the 39km/hour range. I would be accelerating and then when I would hit 38-39 km/hr the van would slow down to the point of lunging you forward slightly and make a klunk sound and then be fine as I accelerated."

Anonymous, ON (2019 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Gently accelerating about 25 mph the transmission makes a loud noise when shifting. Doesn't do it all the time. Once or twice a week. The dealer says its normal."

Anonymous, MD (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Slipping transmission

"I refer to the transmission as slush-automatic. It takes a roar of the engine to get the car moving as the transmission slips sloppily from one gear to the next. However, the shift around 40-45 mph clunks as it goes into the next gear. I can see why Honda did away with this 9 speed transmission and went to the 10 speed (which is supposed to be better [I wonder if it is.] Honda should be ashamed of itself for putting this transmission out for buyers to test for them. It's like the 50's 60's where the buying public tested the cars for the manufactures."

Anonymous, OH (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The car would rev up in high and stop moving then lurch back into working again. Dealer would not do anything since they could not duplicate. Car is dangerous to drive"

Anonymous, TN (2019 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"Engine revs to 2-2.5krpm before the car starts moving. Dealer says it normal???"

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
Transmission computer

"The transmission was shifting rough, so the service manager thought it needed to have the transmission reprogrammed so it could relearn my driving method."

Gary M., OH (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"Trunk full of water after rain. Did bring the car 3 times before dealer found the issue, trunk was not assembled correctly"

Anonymous, IN (2019 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The water leaks applied to the previous issue."

Anonymous, GA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Both apply to the same issue. The seal around the rear hatch has started leaking. When the hatch is raised, about a quart of water will drain out of the bottom of the door."

Anonymous, GA (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

Body Hardware

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

What Owners Say

Doors or sliding doors

"Sliding doors would not operate properly from date of purchase. Vehicle was in dealers shop 30 days of first 45 days of ownership. Neither the dealer nor the factory could fix it for several weeks. They finally fixed it, for now. We were not happy."

James H., TX (2019 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)
Sunroof

"Sunshade was misaligned"

Anonymous, MA (2019 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Automatic climate control

"Started blowing warm or hot air while the AC was on lowest setting. Dealer said it was because the fluid was low and that it might have had a small leak. Took six hours to repair."

Anonymous, TN (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Refrigerant leaks

"Was low on Freon straight from the factory. Would cause delayed cooling on driver side. Was given poor response from the first dealer I took it too, for repairs. Second dealer agreed to evacuate the system and then determine if it indeed had been low. And, it was."

Anonymous, WA (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"One of the fog lights failed and the lens cracked. The dealer said it was not covered under warranty. This was probably due to some sort of debris striking the light but we don't recall anything substantial. This makes me wonder if the design of the fog light is not robust enough to handle normal road debris. It should be stronger given how low/close it is to the road surface."

Anonymous, KS (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Right front turn signal light fell out of it position"

Anonymous, FL (2019 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite 3.5-L V6)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Driveline vibration

"Issue since new purchased. Vibration Issue occurs mostly @70mph+ on smooth roads. Honda shop claims it is inherited in the design. I am not happy since this is my 5th Odyssey and never had the issue before."

Anonymous, IN (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Electrical failure

"A chipmunk chewed through the wire that powers the automatic motor mount. Apparently, the wires are coated in a soy-based rubber and it attracts animals who eat it. The Honda dealer wants $2500 to replace the entire wiring harness. The car still drives fine and there are no warning lights, but a clicking sound can be heard when turning sharply at low speeds."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, oil leaks.

What Owners Say

Engine computer

"Oil sensor went bad and shutdown entire vehicle while driving down interstate"

Anonymous, IL (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Loose exterior trim or moldings

"Chrome trim to sliding door is misaligned by about 1/4 inch. Dealer was unable to correct the problem."

Anonymous, (2019 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Power steering pumps and hoses

"Power steering is dampened too much at highway speeds and the dealer says there is no way to fix it."

Anonymous, AR (2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.
