Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Acceleration is impressive but the auto transmission shifts about as fast as my 90 year old mother walks, and she is dead.”

GERALD C., ID (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Has started to "creak and groan" a little inside the cabin at 40,000 miles. Ride has started to get a little bumpy.”

Anonymous, SC (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Turbo 2.0 is powerful, you will not have an issue merging onto the interstate. Although I wonder what the vehicle would be like with a V6. Handles fairly well, especially the sport model. Starting with 2015 they detuned the engines for some reason.”

MICHAEL B., NC (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“This car delivers V6 like performance with 2.4 liter 4 cylinder fuel economy.”

BOB L., AL (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“I have a 2.0L Turbocharged Sonata. Acceleration in this vehicle is amazing!”

LAWRENCE B., FL (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“This is a 4 cylinder and is sluggish on acceleration, and has no power at all in the 'ECO' mode.”

JANICE B., PA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“It's quick and gets great gas mileage”

FRED B., NC (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“I like the acceleration in the 2014 turbo. I love the car but the 2015 turbo dropped from 274 hp to 245 hp. The car is approximately 2 seconds slower from 0 to 60 this will make me look for a different model or a different brand.”

TED M., FL (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“On the open highway, the steering, even in the tight "sport" setting, feels loose.”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“MILEAGE, HANDLING”

Anonymous, UT (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The power of the car is very good, but the handling and ride on the Limited needs tweaking.”

Anonymous, CO (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“nice smooth pleasant easy handling.”

Anonymous, GA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

RODNEY P., WV (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Disappointed that the passenger seat did not have power adjusted seats...passenger sits very low in seat...”

PETER G., IL (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Heated seats front and back. Roomy back seats. Sunroof front and back. Baby loves it. Everything works as expected.”

JACK K., CA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“ride is not smooth. too much wind noise. the blue tooth is a nightmare. when initiating voice command the system does not always respond with the phone number of the name given.. when asking the bluefooth for a number and there is some background noise the system will not respond.”

LOU K., NJ (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“great car every thing is well thought out .many extras”

M F., MA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“It is comfortable for the driver, but passengers are not so comfortable.”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The front passenger seat is to low and uncomfortable; I understand that it has been corrected in the 2016”

JUSTIN S., NJ (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“My 5'2" wife needs a pillow to see out when she is riding shotgun. The driver seat has an electrical lift..”

Anonymous, TX (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Limited model leather seats are extremely comfortable. Seat warmer in all 4 seats and seat cooler in front seats are very valuable for extreme weathers.”

Anonymous, PA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Seats could be a lot more comfortable than they are. We are average size and weight but the seats seem to be made for a much smaller individual. There does not seem to be much thought to comfort for long distance driving.”

HELEN H., VA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The suspension system is horrible giving a very hard ride”

RICHARD F., MA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Akward to enter and leave. Always hit my head on top of door jamb.”

Anonymous, TN (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Everything is simple to use and reliable as well.”

FRED B., NC (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“should have bought with climate control”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“passenger seat very low no adjustment?”

JOSEPH M., DE (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The passenger front seat is much lower that the drivereason seat, and both are not very comfortable on long drives of two hours or more.”

ALAN A., UT (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The Sonata has excessive road noise in my opinion.”

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“There is a lot of road noise.”

Anonymous, WA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The seats are extremely uncomfortable and low to the ground for getting in and out of car. I feel I have to "climb" in. The car is way to close to the ground; I hit curbs, drag bottom on roads that are not level. I have back trouble due to the seats and the problems I have mentioned. My doctor even mentioned that the back pain can be caused from this, I did not have it before I started driving the Sonata. I drove a Mercuy Marquis that had a very comfortable seat and was easy to enter/exit.”

Anonymous, TX (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“I would have liked to have climate controls/vents for the back seat”

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“More road noise than expected”

Anonymous, FL (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Seating for passenger and rear is uncomfortable and not the same as driver seat; lower and less padded”

Anonymous, OH (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Windows are not darker with tint”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The front passenger seat is too low, Have to use a pillow raise it. Very uncomfortable. Heat, air conditioner controls should be easier to use.”

Anonymous, NY (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“It is loaded with tons of additional features that other cars are much higher in price.”

EDWARD W., RI (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“For the money we paid, I do not think you could possibly get a larger, more luxurious, more spacious, more reliable, more economical, better equipped car from any manufacturer.”

DEIRDRE S., VA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Very reliable car with the best warranty in the business”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The Sonata is better equipped and a better value than the Camry. I wanted to replace my 2009 Camry with a 2014 Camry. Equipment that had been standard on my 2009 Camry were no longer available on that trim line. The Sonata was several thousand dollars less than a comparably equipped Camry.”

JAMES P., IN (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“I purchased the Sonata 2.0 turbo as it had the most horsepower (274) is this price range. The acceleration is great and the handling is impressive for a car in this price range. What I didn't expect the resale value which is higher than anticipated. Too bad this low priced 2.0 turbo is no longer "low priced".”

GERALD C., ID (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“I got more features for the money than I could have with Honda or Toyota”

BOB L., AL (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Excellent warranty”

Anonymous, NY (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“Price is excellent for the standard features for a SE with AT. Comfort, space, power, ride, handling, and quality can not be equaled at the cost.”

GLENN F., NJ (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

“The great value I have a very roomy car for the price of a compact car.”

PHILIP R., NY (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

TODD G., AZ (2014 Hyundai Sonata)

JIM W., FL (2014 Hyundai Sonata)
