2011 Hyundai Tucson Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
The Tucson handles responsively and securely. Its civilized powertrain yields good fuel economy. The Hyundai also has a reasonably spacious and well-trimmed interior with easy-to-use controls. However, a stiff ride and pronounced road noise take away from the driving experience. Further, the swoopy styling robs cargo space and inhibits the view to the rear.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Has touchy steering but once you are used to that, it is fine. Great turning radius, and peppy with acceleration even though the engine is smaller."

Julie S., MS (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"4-cylinder engine downshifts at the slightest touch of gas, revving up to as high as 4000 rpm, making smooth acceleration harder and noisy. Seems difficult for mechanic to tune performance. Suspect engine under powered for the car."

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Sluggish acceleration, engine revs loudly and redlines anytime you input significant accelerator pressure. Handling is average for a small SUV, but body roll is significant when cornering at higher speeds."

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"The transmission went at about 75000 miles. The vehicle has a 10 year/100000 mile. The transmission was paid by Hyundai, but it took many weeks to repair. The transmission had to come from Korea. At about 114000 miles the bolt from the transmission was sheared. The car could not get out of reverse. Car was towed to Hyundai to replace the bolt. They found something else wrong with the vehicle, a sensor had malfunctioned. The costs were extremely high for these repairs."

Mark B., NJ (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"My husband finds the steering a little stiff. I am find with the acceleration & handling."

Bill T., VA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Good acceleration across all speeds; handling is responsive. Very difficult to see outside--high rear window and large pillar make seeing difficult to the rear; Mirror size and placement make seeing curbs and pedestrians extremely difficult to see."

Sandra E., GA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"reliability"

Anonymous, FL (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"slow to accelerate to get to highway speeds"

Anonymous, CO (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Twitchy steering and handling, not comfortable."

PAUL Z., NJ (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"poor visibility in turns and to the rear"

Anonymous, SC (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Could have a little more horsepower."

Anonymous, QC (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"The clutch is stiff and hard to depress. My wife bought the car originally, then we discovered it is a hydraulic clutch that can not be adjusted. She is passing the car to me now, and looking for a new car with automatic transmission."

Anonymous, ON (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Plenty of power, smooth transmission , great handling"

LEON H., PA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Lags trying to accelerate but it is only a 4 cylinder engine. For the terrible gas mileage it gets I would rather it be 6 cylinder. Last year my intake manifold went on a drive up a mountain from Phoenix to Prescott and I drove a max 35 mph on a major freeway for an hour to get to the Hyundai dealership in Prescott. My car had about 70,000 miles on it."

LISA D., AZ (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"too many large blind spots; gutless; air conditioning on dash hits driver's right hand proving useless when air needed."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"My Tucson's acceleration could be improved considerably."

Kouhyar M., OH (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"A little noise and seats could use some redesign for comfort on long trips"

Chester B., WA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Super sensitive steering coupled with short wheelbase leaves you jumping around like a jackrabbit. Rough ride on my AWD Tucson. Noise level is very loud."

John M., OK (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Road noise is pronounced at highway speed."

Robert A., CA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Seats are just okay. Road noise is also just okay"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Engine noise and road noise on highway drives is a bit excessive."

GARY B., AB (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Suspension is a little hard sometime."

Anonymous, QC (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Seats and headrests are very uncomfortable. Have to stop every 2 hours to stretch."

JOHN F., NM (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"The head room and cabin space is surprisingly good for a small SUV. We have enjoyed using it for travel."

Anonymous, TX (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Good climate controls ensure a consistent air flaw and temperature. A lot of road noise."

MARSHA J., FL (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"seats not comfortable"

Anonymous, CO (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"the seats are hard for a long ride."

JAMES H., NY (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"The Tucson is a 4 cylinder model and sounds very noisy at highway cruising speeds. Addition tire and road noise intrude into the cabin. Listening to the audio system requires that it be turned up quite high in order to hear clearly over the road noise."

Gary B., AB (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Extremely noisy engine and overall noise"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"The drive is little noisy but the hauling capabilities are great"

Anonymous, KY (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Road noise can be heard while driving the vehicle."

Kouhyar M., OH (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"We got a great deal on this vehicle. It has a standard transmission and was a 2011 leftover. We have driven it cross-country many times."

Mark B., NJ (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"economy"

Anonymous, FL (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Great vehicle for winter driving at affordable price. Gas mileage in town is poor and substantially lower than advertised. Power/acceleration good in sports mode"

Anonymous, AB (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"It was moderately priced, a great size for urban use and has had no mechanical issues."

Tim B., VA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"This is a handy all round performer."

Anonymous, BC (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Other than the mileage was not what it was advertised to be, and the rear view when backing up, I absolutely love this car. It is easy to handle, have the best turning radius of any car I have ever driven, comfortable ride and has held up very well for the 130000 miles I have put on it already. I have had to replace on button on the steering wheel for the cruise control, and I do need to replace the rugs, but other than that, have not major work done. We keep up with regular oil changes and filter changes etc, and tires of course, but the car keeps going. I was planning on trading it in for a newer model but he newer models did not have the best reviews and even the service manager where I bought the car did not recommend the newer Tucson's. I am not interested in the Santa Fe's, too big and worse gas mileage. Will keep this car until it just won't go any more."

Julie S., MS (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"I probably could have gotten the same car for 3 to 5000 dollars less elsewhere in Canada and it would have been a 2012 model. I got ripped off."

STAN K., ON (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"We really like Tucson. The all-wheel dive feature really allows it to get around in the snow very well. We like the features that our Limited came equipped with and the fact that it was several $1000.00 cheaper than a comparable Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4. The only issue we have had is a wheel bearing had to be replaced under warranty. The only things we wish that had been equipped with was rear console vented seating for passengers seated in the ack seats and that the dashboard and interior were"

GENE S., MO (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"We received a great deal when we purchased the 2011 Tuscon. However, the transmission went bad and needed to be replaced at 76,000 miles. We then had a problem with the battery and finally the Fresh Air intake assembly was missing, which caused our engine light to go on."

MARK B., NJ (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"17 mpg local driving~poor, slow acceleration, passing on 2 lane road is risky!"

CHESTER S., PA (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"It's all good"

Anonymous, AL (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"Driving when sun is shining at the right angle, there is a strong reflection of the dash in the drivers mirror (this is a safety issue to me, when I need to have fast response to another vehicle. The pull out cover for the rear to hide purchases is not removable. Interior walls scar easily."

BRUCE R., MS (2011 Hyundai Tucson)

"I often get complimented on the upscale look of this suv"

STEFAN B., SC (2011 Hyundai Tucson)
