2012 Hyundai Tucson Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
The Tucson handles responsively and securely. Its civilized powertrain yields good fuel economy. The Hyundai also has a reasonably spacious and well-trimmed interior with easy-to-use controls. However, a stiff ride and pronounced road noise take away from the driving experience. Further, the swoopy styling robs cargo space and inhibits the view to the rear.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It has the worst acceleration/pickup. I would not trust this car to save my life in a pinch. My family and I do not take any chances with passing or merging when we drive this vehicle. It has THE WORST pickup. Even little bitty cars put this vehicle to shame, in terms of its pickup (actually, lack thereof)."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The Tucson doesn't handle well on wet roads."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

Linda K., OH (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Intermittent problems with acceleration....transmission. When you slow for a cross street, then try to accelerate, it hesitates. Or when braking for another car, then accelerate, it hesitates. Doesn’t do consistently, but mechanic says it is with the car, nothing he can fix. Otherwise Zi like the car. Where we live, roads are very rough, unpaved in parts, and no repairs!"

Charlotte L., FL (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Weak car. No power"

Anonymous, AB (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Bumpy rider, but good mpg. Front seats uncomfortable, just foam sitting on a bucket...can't secure seat covers under them."

JOHN C., NJ (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Steering feels "vague." When I read that comment about some vehicle the CR evaluated in the past, I did not know what that meant. Driving the 2012 Tucson made me understand exactly what that term means in terms of driving. Also, the engine is underwhelming, especially when the eco mode is turned on - to the point of being dangerously under performing when needed most such as passing on highways, etc."

RAVI D., TX (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"vehicle is under powered, has to shift to much., especially going up hills, poor acceleration from a stop"

Anonymous, NJ (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Nobody buys a Tucson for the driving experience, but for what it is, it is perfectly competent and adequate."

Anonymous, NC (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"no complaints"

MURRAY S., ON (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The Tucson is under-powered when accelerating with the ECO setting."

PETER G., TX (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"bluetooth behavior is erratic. car feels top heavy. rt rr fender separated from body by scraping a curb. no compass. only one trip meter. no drls. back seat seat back carpeting doesnt fit back when raising seats back upright. rides fine straight and level."

ALAN P., PA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Not as sport as we would like. The transmission doesn't seem to down shift quickly enough when accelerating."

LANCE H., UT (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"no real support in seats, car now over 100,00 km has a lot of noises and vibrations like loose metal"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The ride is rougher than I would like, especially on winter-damaged roads. I also find the wedge-style seat-bottom driver's seat a bit confining. Road noise is pronounced, compromising the enjoyment the radio's music and voice programming."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Seats are uncomfortable. The inside of the car rattles and has rattled since we purchased vehicle - we nor the dealer can find the source of the noise."

Anonymous, PA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Seats are covered foam in a pan. Can't install seat covers and seat foam bottoms out."

Anonymous, NJ (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"It is a fairly comfortable car."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"This is one of the best autos I have owned in my 56 years of woning autos.... that said.. the noise, and blind spots are very bad and takes away from the quality of he care.. the gas mileage is really terrible for what I thought I was getting... Who can beat 10/100K miles warranty???? I will reach 10 years before 100k"

Gene G., CA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The seats aren't comfortable, and unfortunately, you can't ascertain that in a test drive. Trips longer than a couple hours result in backache."

Anonymous, AZ (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Seats are very uncomfortable, there is no lumbar support and both of now experience back pains when driving for 30 minutes or more. It is a little noisy, you do hear too much road noise and the ride is not as solid and smooth as other vehicles like our CRV."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The seats are rather uncomfortable for my wife and me during longer drives."

Anonymous, UT (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Please with Tucson. Only complaint would be that suspension in the back is poor when sitting in the back seat passengers get a bumpy ride. Needs improvement on suspension. Had to replace two sensors. When returning from Florida gas sensor went out and spent the night in Chattanooga waiting for it to be repaired."

Linda K., OH (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"For the price this vehicle is very quiet and smooth."

Michael C., GA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"This is a 4WD, so it is not as smooth on highway. Rougher than automatic. Car has road noise."

Charlotte L., FL (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Prominent road noise. Weak air conditioning when outside temperature above 80F. Dark colour of dash reflects on windshield."

GERRY T., ON (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Never had leather seats until this car and now I love the leather seats."

VICKI F., SC (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"I put on a better set of tires to quiet road noise. It is still rather noisy."

BARBARA S., OH (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The air conditioning just does not work as well as previous cars. Sometimes the air outside the car is cooler than the air in the car."

Anonymous, CA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Seats aren't very well padded and become uncomfortable on road trips"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Noise is the biggest problem"

Anonymous, ME (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"It has a very tight ride, which may not bother some people. You can tell if a dime is heads or tails when you run over it."

R W., BC (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Top value for its class. Car has performed flawlessly and has needed no repairs, only routine maintenance. Mileage is less than promised, but is offset largely by the gas cards Hyundai periodically sends."

Anonymous, FL (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Wife loves it, and won't part with it. Sounds like a satisfied owner to me."

Anonymous, FL (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Just a sweet auto... for the $$ but would buy the turbo which they did not have in 2012"

Gene G., CA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"For the value we paid for the Tucson I think we did very well. It has not given us any serious mechanical problems and the heating and cooling systems are superior to anything I have ever driven."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Warranty can't be beat."

Michael C., GA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

Gerardo C., MB (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Best price of most competitors, lots of safety equipment, best warranty of any manufacturer, so far great reliability"

"It is a small SUV that has the comfort & reliability of larger vehicles. I trust in the safety of all wheel drive, and feel secure."

Anonymous, OH (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"This is my wife,s primary vehicle. She is/has been quite pleased with it in both form and function. “Happy wife, happy life‿ ‘Nuf said."

David A., FL (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Mileage, utility, perfect for my wife. Space to shop."

William C., MD (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"For about $21k, this is a nice versatile SUV. You cannot touch anything else in this category for that price. Throw in the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty and 10 year drive train warranty and you cannot beat it! Have had zero problems to date in almost 5 years."

Anonymous, SC (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The saving grace of the Tucson is I was able to get the car through a family member at 1/3 off. It is an inexpensive car and rides like one, but it is reliable so far."

Anonymous, CA (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"mileage is not as good as advertised. I should get better mileage in a 4 cylinder car"

TERESA E., MS (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"Quality, reliability, and features aren't available anywhere else."

Anonymous, NC (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"The MPG on this car was a huge factor in deciding to purchase over other models - only to learn that it had been misrepresented. We get compensated annually with a Visa pre-paid card but I feel they should have been made to refund the cost of the car and take it back."

Anonymous, AL (2012 Hyundai Tucson)

"I knew how much I wanted to spend on a car and I got more options with the Tucson than I did on other cars I was considering."
