The Tucson is fundamentally a pleasant, well rounded small SUV but originally, neither powertrain did it justice, until spring 2018. Three powertrains are available: a lackluster 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic transmission; a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic; and a conventional 2.4-liter four-cylinder.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Starting off there is sometimes a bucking because of the dual clutch."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Transmission is smooth, can hardly hear the engine."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"The acceleration hesitates when pulling out from a stop. Dealership told me something about it being from dual clutches or something like that. I haven't had a car that hesitates like this for years. Don't like it."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Has 2.4 liter engine which is very responsive and accelerated very well."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Acceleration is not good. Seems a bit underpowered"

Eric M., WI (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Has plenty of power and control"

Anonymous, WA (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"It is a very peppy car that is fun to drive. The turbo is effective and not overwhelming"

Harald B., VA (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"It’s pretty great, but the turbo tends to lag a little. Don’t try to jump out into traffic too quickly, you might get caught."

W R., GA (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"We mainly drive this car in town. The car is very quiet and smooth and extremely maneuverable with impressively small turning radius."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Handling good. Acceleration poor. Entry exit comfortable. Infotainment very good. Visibility good."

Jack M., FL (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Very sluggish. Under powered"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"The Tuscon with the 1.6 Turbo is very quick at accelerating from a standstill or while passing another car. It handles like more like a European car than an SUV. Quite impressive."

James S., AR (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Handles very well, great pickup."

Anonymous, CT (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"I purchased the Hyundai Tucson for easy access and it has partly accomplished that, but we discovered that there is a long step horizontally to get over the "running board" area below the doors. Over 2 inches more than my 2014 Highlander. This is a little unfortunate."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Very comfortable and quiet ride"

James S., AR (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"lumbar suport"

Michael B., OR (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Very quiet ride. Smooth cornering. Decent acceleration."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Seat comfort is not bad but find them slightly uncomfortable on long trips. Pleased with the quiet interior. Ride and handling are very good. Lumbar adjustment should be included on all models."

Jim H., AB (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Well made"

Anonymous, NH (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"I believe you get good value for your money but I would recommend going for a higher level for comfort (better seats)"

Jim H., AB (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Panoramic roof, 8 way adjustable power driver seat w/lumbar support. Heated side mirros, warning single for on coming traffic/turns."

Clarence M., MD (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"cost less than the 2017"

Michael B., OR (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Did not like the process of leasing this car. Items were added to the lease against my wishes. Will walk away in the future."

Jack M., FL (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Lots of features for a good price"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Great deal on monthly payments with low down payment."

Anonymous, CT (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Compared to the luxury and expensive brands my wife has driven in the past, she is HUGELY satisfied with this car and knows that we save a bunch of money both on purchase price and recurring maint, taxes, insurance, etc., custs"

Harald B., VA (2018 Hyundai Tucson)

"Great auto, quiet"

Anonymous, TX (2018 Hyundai Tucson)
