Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Alarm or security system (excluding aftermarket systems)

"Car alarm sounds when a motorcycle o other "rumbling" vehicle goes by. Dealer says they can't reduce the sensitivity or turn the alarm feature off. This defect is a "showstopper" re buying another Infiniti vehicle"

Donald D., CA (2009 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)
Body control module

"I experienced a sudden and complete failure of the body control module and another electronic module at about 66000 miles. The car became totally inoperable while being parked in my garage. This problem cost over $2200 to fix."

Anonymous, IL (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"When trying to use manual mode on the automatic transmission, the electronic switch failed and it always goes back to "D" in automatic mode. The repair is $500 if I choose to have it repaired"

Anonymous, NH (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Clock

"Back light stopped working. Infiniti would not repair under warranty. Clock still works fine in analog mode. Problem is you can't see it at night."

Donald D., CA (2009 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"Light in clock stopped working"

Donald D., CA (2009 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

David K., ON (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"All of the steering wheel controls (audio, phone, and cruise control) have stopped working and necessitated a costly repair ($1,400 and $1,000) on two occasions"

Anonymous, CO (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"right turn signal stopped working and repair shop failed to fix it the first time. Don't know why."

Anonymous, WA (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Gauges

"Really the same problem with both gripes: The LED behind the gauge display and the clock stopped working."

Donald D., CA (2009 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"backlighting on dashboard is failing. Parts of some gauges (tach, temp) are no longer visible."

Peter K., TX (2009 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"LED light on dash for temperature control burned out. should have lasted much longer with only 50K miles on vehicle. Dealership wants 600-750 to removed dash and replace a 2.00 bulb. Did not affect any other lights so just letting it run its course."

Anonymous, AZ (2009 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"Some instrument lights go off intermittently. Not all at once, so it is an annoyance more than a safety concern."

Anonymous, VA (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Instrument cluster display has both permanent and intermittent blackouts."

Anonymous, CA (2009 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"Instrument panel lights have slowly gone out."

Randy B., CA (2009 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"Temperature gauge light stopped working. Gauge not visible at night."

Donald D., CA (2009 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"Some of the lighting on the gauge panel cluster have gone out, tach and fuel gauge"

Anonymous, LA (2009 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"Wiring short causes the backlighting for the main instrument cluster to flicker on and off at variable intervals, at sometimes making the gauges hard or impossible to see."

Michael D., CA (2009 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

Anonymous, GA (2009 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"The lights on the gauges flicker and go out leaving you blind sighted. I was told that electrical boards are the cause and would have to be replaced. Again, cost prohibited. Seems to have many electrical board problems that surface after warranty"

Richard F., TX (2009 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Backlights for the tach and temperature gauge flash intermittently. Dealer did not attempt repair but did tell me it was an $1,100 circuit board that must be replaced"

Headlights

"Burned out light"

Anonymous, MN (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

Anonymous, CO (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Headlamp Assembly light not working. Dealer tried replacing bulb assembly which cost $100, but that only lasted one month. Dealer said the headlamp assembly had to be replaced costing over $1000!"

"Vehicle went into limp mode a few more times this past year, mainly during cold weather. I took the vehicle to the dealer to have the ECU reset, because they said it was probably an issue with the computer (and not a true transmission problem). But the car went into limp mode a couple more times, even after they reset the ECU. When this happens, we have to pull the car to the side of the road, turn off the engine, and restart it. Then it's fine, but this is very dangerous to pull off the highway in heavy traffic."

Anonymous, KY (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"I took car to dealership for routine maintenance, and a/c worked fine, but when I picked up the car, the a/c was not working at all. Although the a/c was out of warranty, the dealer / Infiniti made the expensive repair without charge to me because the a/c failure occurred while the car was in their care."

The car had absolutely no electrical power to any components after the failure occurred. Totally dead. This repair will cost over $2000. I will never buy Infiniti or Nissan again."

Jay B., IL (2009 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"There was an issue with the ECM that caused the car to go into limp mode multiple times. When the car goes into limp mode it cannot be driven over 3000 rpms, which causes major safety issues when on the highway. The car gets back to normal when pulled over, stopped, and restarted. It started as an intermittent problem, but then started happening more frequently, eventually twice per month. It turns out there is a known issue with the ECM malfunctioning. I took the car to the dealership and had them reset the ECM, which apparently fixed the problem for now. However, this is a major safety issue, because the last time it happened when my wife was driving on the highway in the snow and she had to get over multiple lanes to pull the car to the shoulder and restart it."
