Lexus ES Hybrid First Drive

Introduction

For 2026, the redesigned ES sedan is 6.5 inches longer than its predecessor, has a stiffer structure, and switches to a multilink rear suspension for better handling and a smoother ride. It gets Lexus' latest hybrid drivetrain, a 244-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electronic CVT and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. The hybrid’s EPA estimate is 46 mpg combined with FWD and 44 mpg combined with AWD. Inside, the ES debuts a new, streamlined interior design with improved visibility, flush-mounted climate buttons spaced far apart, and suede accents. The sedan retains the plush, quiet character that it’s known for, and rear legroom is impressive. The ES also gets Lexus’ latest set of advanced driver assistance and safety technology. A fully-electric version is also available.
