2017 Lexus GX Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
Most luxury SUVs have evolved into pampering on-road transport for their well-heeled buyers, backing away from off-road prowess and their truck-based roots. So does that make the Lexus GX a dinosaur? Not necessarily. Sure, nothing is "crossover" or "car-based" in this old-school vehicle. Consider the GX a Toyota 4Runner that was sent to finishing school, earning straight-A's when it was there.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"This body on frame SUV is firmly planted on the road. The connection between the driver and the road is great. It goes where i point it. When loaded with 7 passengers it still has plenty of power in reserve. I averaged more than 20 mpg on a 300 mile trip fully loaded with 7 passengers. The engine is smooth and quite but when power is needed to pass,, it growls and has a lot of bottom end torque and horsepower to get around the slower automobiles."

Elliott C., FL (2017 Lexus GX)

"Quiet, smooth, comfortable with more than ample power. Won't beat a Ferrari on the highway, but Ferrari can't go into a swamp like Lexus can."

J C., MI (2017 Lexus GX)

"well engineered vehicle."

Maurice C., MD (2017 Lexus GX)

"The V-8 has great acceleration and gives a feeling of control."

Mike C., CA (2017 Lexus GX)

"Good acceleration and handling."

Anonymous, IA (2017 Lexus GX)

"Frequent shifting of gears on long uphill grades make maintaining stable speed difficult."

Jeff G., UT (2017 Lexus GX)

"Lots of power for passing. Good control of road."

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Lexus GX)

"Smooth comfortable riding , engine has great power but is slow to accelerate , brakes seem spongey and stoping distance is too long ,handling is very good for such a large vehicle"

Richard R., IA (2017 Lexus GX)

"very smooth ride and luxury experience"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Lexus GX)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Road comfort, seating position are both wonderful for long road trips"

John S., NC (2017 Lexus GX)

"great on long trips, very refreshed upon arrival"

Maurice C., MD (2017 Lexus GX)

"We bought this vehicle for the great ride, comfort, and noiseless atmosphere."

Mike C., CA (2017 Lexus GX)

"This is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. The ride is soft yet compliant and the absence of noise is wonderful. I can talk to my wife without screaming. The entertainment system doesn't have to be blaring for me to hear over the road noise. The seats are firm and very comfortable on long rides and seat adjustments are easy to make with the power seats."

Elliott C., FL (2017 Lexus GX)

"Very quiet and comfortable yet still can handle any adverse conditions"

Anonymous, VA (2017 Lexus GX)

"I love the seats and how they curve to fit your back. They are dreamy and this car is wonderful to drive."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Lexus GX)

"Super comfy in Luxury trim (air suspension) quiet and poised"

Remi L., NC (2017 Lexus GX)

"Very comfortable. My husband is tall and has great leg and head room. Very little road noise. Leather seats very comfortable."

Anonymous, IA (2017 Lexus GX)

"Comfortable while on long trips"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Lexus GX)

"Too much road noise"

Robert B., NC (2017 Lexus GX)

"Front seats are too hard to be comfortable on long trips. Rear seats are also uncomfortable. Ride is generally good, but harsh on certain road surfaces. I felt every bump and road imperfection driving home from Washington, DC along George Washington Parkway (this is my favorite way to go home from DC in other vehicles). I do have to give the GX high marks for noise; it’s relatively quiet."

Scott H., VA (2017 Lexus GX)

"All three areas are supurb for an SUV"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Lexus GX)

"Noise level is still high and acceleration is jumpy."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Lexus GX)

"Two things stand out as disappointing. The third row seating is an exercise in contortion. Calling it seating is misleading. Also, the tailgate opens horizontally. A very bad design. Try opening the tailgate with a car parked behind you --- nearly impossible to get the gate open all the way. In addition, the horizontal design prevents you from exiting to the right as you face the front of the vehicle -- the tailgate is there. Very poor design for such an expensive vehicle."

Jerry D., IN (2017 Lexus GX)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"We were comparing the 2017 Lexus GX to the price of a Yukon. Although I feel like Lexus has a more uppity brand image, the Lexus GX was much cheaper then the cheapest Yukon. The dimensions of the Lexus GX (length and width) were slightly less then the Yukon, and that made it much easier to park in a garage or a parking space. This is the main reason why we are very pleased with the value."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Lexus GX)

"Rock solid vehicle equally at home on highway or muddy logging trail--exactly what I had hoped for."

J C., MI (2017 Lexus GX)

"The car is wonderful. It is comfortable in all respects. Great shocks. Seats comfortable. Acceleration great. Navigation great. I don’t like the joy stick. Hard to handle."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Lexus GX)

"I’ve owned both BMWs and Audi’s in the past. The acceleration in those vehicles is amazing. The acceleration in the Lexus IS heavy and sluggish. The seats in the RX are much more comfortable than the GX. Further, there are a number of features that are standard on BMW/Audi that are not options on the GX (I.e., automatic folding side mirrors)."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Lexus GX)

"Over priced"
