    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Catalytic converter

"After having problems with O2 sensors my mechanic advised replacing catalystic converter"

    Anonymous, VA (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Exhaust leaks

""Corrosion in several areas of exhaust pipes. Engine light came on and there was a noticeable reduction in fuel efficiency fall 2024. Previously associated with gas cap sensor error. Smell of exhaust in car. Dealer identified several small holes in exhaust pipe. Problem escalated rapidly by early spring 2025. Significant reduction in gas efficiency. Sudden onset of car chugging, struggling to accelerate& sputtering clouds of exhaust. Took car to MIDAS and they replaced several sections. No issues after that and fuel efficiency now excellent""

    Anonymous, ON (2013 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other/unsure

"Heating and air conditioning motor doesn't work"

    Anonymous A., OH (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Rear shocks replaced June 2024 because attachment bolts rusted through completely"

    Anonymous A., AB (2013 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Pipes

"Same as discussed with reference to exhaust (pipes)"

    Anonymous, ON (2013 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"I may have selected the issue incorrectly. The issue is that if the vehicle is not driven for a few weeks, the battery dies. It's a new battery, so the battery is not the issue. We have not yet located what is draining the battery. (So: The issue isn't really the battery, but we don't know what the issue is, just that it is electrical.)"

    Anonymous A., VA (2013 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other electrical system problem

"A couple times in all the years we have owned this car a lot of random alert lights came up on the dash. The first time we replaced the 12 volt battery the same day. The second time (in 2024) we didn't and the next day the alternator went bad. Everything was fine again after a new alternator and 12 volt battery were installed."

    Anonymous, CA (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Chronic issue with the door locks that seems to be connected to battery charge level since charging the battery to full mostly makes it go away. It thinks a door is open and won't let you lock the doors while the car is in motion. It's had this issue for a while."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure Unsure)
    Warning lights

"The electronic control module for the ABS system died and could only be replaced with OEM. Parts cost more than labor, it was VERY expensive."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure Unsure)

    Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

""Bought new tires, went to align the front end and it was found the ball joints and bearings were going out.""

    Anonymous A., MN (2013 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Shocks or struts

"The bushings and struts would be what I would call normal wear and tear for age and mileage of vehicle"

Anonymous, AZ (2013 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

""shock absorber mount on drivers side was broken, attached to nothing. Passenger side was close to breaking""

    Anonymous A., BC (2013 Mazda 3 Mazdaspeed 2.3-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Premature brake wear

"Replaced brakes, tires, and carburetor. Service people thought problems were from not driving the car enough during covid"

    Anonymous, MA (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Squeaking

""Brakes started whining when reversing, no reduction in braking power. Brake pads replaced, whining continued.""

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure Unsure)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Engine computer

"The air flow sensor on the air intake assembly failed ($100 part), and the car stopped running because the stupid computer couldn't set a reasonable airflow without the sensor and would choke off the engine. That's just basic incompetent design. A failure like that certainly should affect the performance and efficiency of the engine, but not cause it to fail to start from lack of airflow. The engineers that design this "feature" are idiots."

    Anonymous, OR (2013 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Oil leaks

""I've noticed at night when braking, the headlights will flash dim until you completely stop, then brighten back up, only when braking. The oil leak was due to warn out gasket.""

""I think the noise is from a loose glove compartment, that is a little off kilter.""

Anonymous, NC (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure Unsure)

    Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    "Paint peeling."

    Anonymous, CA (2013 Mazda 3 Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    CD player

""It stopped working, would not accept and play CDs.""

Anonymous, AB (2013 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Other body problem

"The seat frame cracked and it is just a small part but Mazda does no longer supports this vehicle after 10 years so parts are not available. I cannot find a shop to take the seat off to weld the part because of liability. It's seems unfair of Mazda to stop supporting this car due to age. It is a known issue as well as I did call Mazda USA and was told about it. I also took it to a Mazda dealership repair shop and they told me that did not stock that part any longer or could it from Mazda."

    Anonymous, CA (2013 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission computer

    Anonymous, CA (2013 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Electrical

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery replacement, hybrid battery related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, spark plugs and wires failure, auto stop/start.

    What Owners Say

    Ignition switch

"The cheap plastic cover on the ignitions switch, a common point of contact with the user, broke apart with sharp edges, though the car could still be started. The whole ignition switch needs to be replaced, not just the button cover, and the entire dashboard has to be removed just to replace the ignition switch, to the tune of $400. Again, that's just a stupid design."

    Anonymous, OR (2013 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.

    Transmission Major
