What Owners Say
"Doesn’t work about 40% of the time."
Carol B., CA (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Intermittently the image is broken up badly and therefore not useful."
Anonymous, (2014 Mazda 3 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"It sometimes takes extra 15-30 seconds to switch from back up camera to the home screen"
Anonymous, ON (2014 Mazda 3 Sport Unsure)"The back up camera usually has a distorted and fuzzy view that scrolls - similar to an old style TV when the picture tube is failing. At other times it fails to work at all. Because the camera does work on occasion, my guess is that it is in the electronics and not the camera itself. However, I have not taken it to the shop to confirm if that is the case."
Anonymous, WA (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"For several years I have had problems with the backup camera going black for weeks at a time then working long enough to visit the service department and was never resolved until this February when the service advisor recommended replacement rather than repair, and "Ëœvoila' I have a beautifully consistently operating backup camera. Pricy but so simple."
Anonymous, CA (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"It failed completely at 7600 miles. Replaced by new one. Still acting up, back up yellow lines are broken segments half the time"
Anonymous, FL (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"Backup camera intermittently becomes scrambled. No rhyme or reason to when it happens, but can present a safety concern. Dealer has been unable to duplicate and fix"
Andrew L., AL (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Backup camera failed, sometimes static, sometimes no picture at all. Camera was replaced after 2nd dealer called the extended warranty company and provided evidence of no water damage."
Anonymous, CA (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"It would not play. Neither dealer or car audio store could fix."
Anonymous, OR (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"the switch to day/night was random, they said there was a service advisory. They replaced the unit. I still had problems, they looked at the new one and said my settings were the problem"
Anonymous, ON (2014 Mazda 3 Sport)"In bright sunlight, display screen difficult to see, sometimes can't at all"
Martha B., FL (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Display screen for GPS and back-up camera doesn't automatically change from day to night. Have to adjust it by hand"
Anonymous, AZ (2014 Mazda 3 Touring)"The system automatically dims when it senses it is night time. Unfortunately this often happens when I drive in a shadow of a building or an underpass. Then it takes forever for the display to brighten again"
Paul R., ON (2014 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Rarely happens, but sometimes the display becomes unresponsive, sometimes it continues to work after a pause, sometimes it blacks out and resets"
Michael T., CA (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"the display freezes up while playing music in random mode for no reason"
Anonymous, MA (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"The entire infotainment/nav system was so screwed up they replaced the computer control. The new one has it's quirks but not so debilitating. The nav system is totally worthless; always was."
Roger H., MA (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"The screen freezes, if you disconnect the battery it reset, but the display goes blank shortly. Mazda says it is a herdware issue"
Anonymous, ON (2014 Mazda 3 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"The display screen didn't actually freeze up; you just didn't list a better option, like display screen jumped around randomly, selecting options on pull-down menus randomly, etc. Drove my daughter crazy for 2 years while Mazda pretended they didn't know anything about it, or couldn't detect a problem. It got worse and worse, until the car was finally out of warranty, then they found the problem and the cure (for only $1600) to replace the data select knob on the console (unnecessary) and then finally the display screen in the dash panel (absolutely necessary). Afterwards, I found that there had been a Mazda Service Bulletin issued about the problem 6 months earlier (prior to an earlier maintenance checkup when we had also complained about the problem but had it ignored). The Service Bulletin described our exact symptoms and proscribed the fix (replace the display panel), which should have been done when the car was still under warranty. My subsequent complaints were ignored by the dealer (excuses, excuses). Other than this issue, my daughter (who drives the car) loves the car. Note: This same root cause (and solution) is at the root of all 3 of the electronics problems that I noted. I just checked all three boxes to highlight its impact. (Depending what screen you might be on, the glitchy jumping around of the faulty screen impacted different systems (music / GPS, etc.) It did NOT affect any active driving system."
Gary W., TX (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"Mazda had a recall (ghost touch) fo some models dashboard entertainment screen in which the affected units were executing buttons/commands without anyone touching the screen. This Mazda recall was about 12 months after I had experience the issue and reported to Mazda, but they fixed my screen."
Anonymous, IN (2014 Mazda 3 Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"This problem started about 2 yrs ago. Mazda says it is eligible for a free screen replacement, but has so far been unable to obtain the necessary parts to repair"
Anonymous, PA (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Display/touch screen failed - replaced eventually via warranty repair when Mazda owned up to the problem/defect."
Anonymous, (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"The infotainment unit starting beeping constantly and being unresponsive. Since we had no warranty left, I ran a USB based mod to disable the touch screen, which corrected the problem. The command button module is also somewhat broken now and are very expensive to replace. Half of the buttons don't work. 6 year old car..."
Anonymous, NB (2014 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"repaired under manufacturer warranty"
Anonymous, FL (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"Sometimes the screen freezes but often, buttons are activated and songs are changed without me touching any audio controls. Sometimes it works better if I turn the car off and back on but not lately. When I'm listening to music from my iPod (USB connection), the song will suddenly start fast forwarding. It will also skip songs and even change the audio source without me touching any controls to do that. It's very annoying."
Anonymous, CA (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"For no reason system crashes and screen freezes. I had to look up online for the reset buttons to press"
Paul F., NC (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"I can unfreeze it by turning the car motor off and back on, which seems to cause the display screen to reset itself and unfreeze"

Anonymous, BC (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Freezes just before it goes blank. Associated always with other problem described above"
Peter F., PA (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"Gps and traffic app would start to download on display screen. It would freeze up after partially loading screen and crash system. System would have to restart"
Anonymous, GA (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"after starting, the display screen sometimes freezes on the permission screen. requires restart to resolve. dealer installed update to the system to resolve problems have not occurred since"
Anonymous, MI (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"At times the whole system freezes up. This has been happening since I purchased the vehicle. Every time I take it in, they cannot duplicate the problem. One time when it was acting up, the dealership couldn't fix it. I have been disappointed with both the vehicle and the dealership. The infotainment system has never worked properly since I purchased the car. The response from the dealership is ???????. I will never buy another Mazda again. After purchase there is no really support except excuses. I don't even bother bringing it in any more. I have just been beaten down, I have given up."
Anonymous, HI (2014 Mazda 3 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"The screen would freeze, seemingly as a computer issue as the radio/phone/rear camera/etc would simply cease to work (or display properly as the screen would sometimes be stuck on a frozen glitch, sometimes in a bootloop, sometimes not turn on at all)"
Anonymous, UT (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Intermittent blank screen during cold weather. Sometimes also includes loss of rear camera display when backing up"

Paul F., NC (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"About once a month, the system gives a plain bluescreen or forgets it has a navigation system (it has one). I restart the car, and it is OK. Initially, the Mazda dealer said they new about the issue and a software fix was coming. Now, they shrug"
Anonymous, CA (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)"Info system went dark on three occasions since purchase in December 2014. Problem was fixed by dealer each time, but it continued to happen. Each fix wiped out all personals settings which had to be reset after each repair"
Anonymous, NC (2014 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"Screen went blank. Reset and worked fine. notified Mazda and they recommended a software update. had that done and haven't had any more problems"

Anonymous, MN (2014 Mazda 3)"The speedometer reading shows on a popup screen in front of the driver. Intermittently this screen would come up and the only other speedometer display was at the bottom of guage display and sometimes blocked by the steering wheel. I repeatedly notified the service dealer who said they could not repair something they could not duplicate, which left me very frustrated. A call to Mazda help line was of no help. Finally the screen failed when I had time to take it to the dealer to see, which led to it eventual repair. I consider that even though it was an intermittent problem, after numerous complaints at two different dealerships, it should have been taken care some time ago."
Jerry N., CA (2014 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"System fails to properly play albums from a USB stick. It plays one song and then stops instead of continuing the album.
