Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"My and my wife's new phones ( Apple 8 and Samsung 8) will not pair. I have contacted the dealer and Mazda several times and no one can or will tell me if the problem will ever be fixed. This is terrible customer support. This is my second Mazda, and last"

"Bluetooth stopped working after four months, bluetooth unit replaced under warranty"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Bluetooth system completely crashed and would not detect any phone or voice commands since it could not restart. Sometimes stopping the engine and restarting would fix it."

Kent E., TX (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"From the beginning the bluetooth connectivity has been very flaky. Often when I make a call it switches back and forth from the phone to the car and back. This is very dangerous and I've taken it into the dealer repeatedly without a fix. Then I got told by the service manager that the 2014 had two providers for their electronics and I unfortunately (his words) had the one that didn’t work well and had been dropped by Mazda. He didn’t offer a solution and neither has Mazda when I contacted them. To give you an idea of the severity of the problem: last year I saw an accident on the highway when I tried to call 911 the speaker kept switching back and forth to the phone and car so much so that I couldn’t safely tell 911 about the accident. This also manifests itself in other ways too like a completely locked system which can only be reset by turning the car off and on again."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Calipers

"Drivers Rear caliper froze up, smelled a burning odor and got out to see caliper smoking"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"One caliper started locking up at approximately 50,000 miles. That's a ridiculously low mileage, considering that most of my driving is on an expressway where I seldom need to use the brakes"

Michael B., IL (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"2 months after warranty ended driver side rear brake caliper seized. I didn't notice for a day and destroyed the pad and rotor. Mazda Canada covered the cost of the parts but it was still $1000 Repair for something that shouldn't have happened to a 3 year old car that's had regular maintenance including the annual "brake cleaning" rip-off charge"

Anonymous, ON (2014 Mazda 6 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Calipers got overheated and everything had to be replaced. Both of the back calipers"

Anonymous, ON (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Ed A., CA (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Normal routine brake wear

"break pads were not that low but 1/2 material was left because rotors were warped causing braking issues replaced pads anyway at a Mazda dealer"

Anonymous, CO (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The dealer said they no longer turn the rotors so I ended up paying $1263 for new pads and rotors because my pads were worn down."

Donald T., ON (2014 Mazda 6 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Pads wore out. Replacement pads warped shortly after installation. Replaced under warranty. New pads seem fine."

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Parking brake

"My hand brake has worn so significantly that I have hade first adjusted, then the cable was replaced (not under warranty) and now replaced again under warranty"

George M., NY (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The mechanism to apply the parking brake in the right caliper assembly froze up - would not release. I had to purchase a new caliper and replace worn pads. Also, very limited availability of this part. I had to order from the dealer & wait for it to arrive"

Judy R., PA (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Barking brake seized while driving, had to have it towed to garage. Warranty covered repairs"

"Recall to replace boot."

Anonymous, ID (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The shaft that operates the hand brake in the rear caliper rusted in place. I paid to replace it, then it was recalled. Mazda refunded what I paid for the earlier repair."

Judy R., PA (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Recall. Parking brake cable not properly sealed which caused rust in caliper. Calipers were replaced by dealer."

Henry N., FL (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"My rear brakes began to lock on and I couldn't easily lift the hand brake lever. It was part of an upcoming recall problem that I had heard about by mail from Mazda, but had not yet received instructions to bring it in for the recall. The dealer replaced the calipers and pads for free and I got the letter announcing the recall the next day."

Donald T., ON (2014 Mazda 6 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"There was a recall on my vehicle, related to the parking brake"

Elena R., GA (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Premature brake wear

"The tires lasted less than 20K miles and are very expensive--19"-- and hard to find when needed"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Brakes had pulsation and clicking at about 26000 miles and it took 3 times to fix(rotors and new calipers) and then at about 48,000 miles the same happened(pulsating and clicking) and had to have rotors done again"

Eric R., CA (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Front brakes, and all tires wore off prematurely"

Peter C., CA (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, CA (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Pulsation or vibration

"rotors warp and cause vibration braking from 50-40 gently. Had resurfaced multiple times. Is an issue with the design and OEM parts. From other reviews it is unavoidable and frustrating."

Rotors

"At 40,000 miles front rotors warping"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Early 2014 models used substandard rotors, or at least that's what I was told. They were warped after 25000 miles and caused pulsing in the steering wheel while braking. Rotors were replaced"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Premature warping... not sure if it is the part or the way the car is constructed. I do drive a ton and mostly highway miles so maybe that too... but I replaced them with ~ 40000 miles on the car and now with 70,000 they're shaking and warped again"

Matthew K., VA (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Rotors continually warped. Ground once and then replaced. Problem has reoccurred. Dealer said I brake too hard and I simply do not."

King J., TX (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"warped rotors caused car to shake a lot when brakes were applied. Pads were at normal wear but not ready for replacement"

Anonymous, CO (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"OEM rotors had to be replaced because of warping"

Ed A., CA (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Front rotors needed machining to remove the wobble."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Mazda 6 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"See previous comment"

Donald T., ON (2014 Mazda 6 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"related to vibration. Rotors get warped on this car within 10K miles or less on a regular basis. Had rotors replaced with OEM, still same problem."

Kevin K., MD (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I have had the rotors worked on 2 times since owning the vehicle. They seem to warp easily. Any sudden stop seems to warp them."

Jason T., MO (2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
