The Mazda6 provides a sporty alternative to the conventional humdrum midsized sedan. A coupe-like silhouette stands out with eye-catching looks. You probably won't be bored driving the car, either. Quick, responsive steering contributes to agile handling. But the 6 isn't all about flash.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"A blast to drive!! Zoom Zoom"

Steven O., DE (2017 Mazda 6)

"Paddle shifters make driving in the mountains easier and it has surprising power for a 4 cylinder engine."

Gene J., OH (2017 Mazda 6)

"The driving experience is what elevates the Mazda 6 from a "very good" car to "excellent." Every drive is a satisfying experience in this car. The handling inspires confidence like nothing else in its class, it's almost telepathic. Yet you're never punished with a harsh ride or excessive noise. The balance is master masterful."

Alexander P., OH (2017 Mazda 6)

"This car is excellent at handling. The suspension is firm but the car corners and curves with little effort. the steering is precise."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Mazda 6)

"This car is fun to drive and feels very connected to the road. Engine has more than adequate power for my needs and gets very good gas mileage for the mostly city driving I do."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"It is very nimble car and it is fun to drive. The only issue is getting in and out as it is low to the ground."

Michael D., FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"The car has great acceleration in sport mode or when passing other vehicles on the highway. The car handles really well on curvy roads. It's fun to push the limits a little."

Thomas D., OH (2017 Mazda 6)

"This car handles better than any other front-wheel drive vehicle I've ever driven. It's a balanced driving experience that incorporates well connected steering response without being too twitchy to enjoy on long cruises. While the ride is on the firm side, it is comfortable enough for long distance drives and handles bumps without jarring or bouncing. The acceleration is only adequate. Of course I would enjoy more power, but I would likely have to give up some of that amazing fuel economy to get it, which just isn't necessary considering how much fun the car is to drive. I did not purchase a sport sedan, but rather a sporty sedan."

Christopher A., AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"Excellent handling. Acceleration makes it easy to merge or pass."

Anonymous, MN (2017 Mazda 6)

"Mazda are known for driving and handling and this does not disappoint"

Anonymous, DE (2017 Mazda 6)

"Acceleration is good considering there was no turbo option in 2017. Handling is excellent and makes the car fun to drive. Just wish the steering wheel was a bit thicker."

Gary W., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"Superb road-handling; good acceleration"

Anonymous, MD (2017 Mazda 6)

"Handling is GREAT. The steering is quick, and I mean QUICK! And precise. Not overly light like the Accord, and I sense excellent road feel. Handling is just shy of a Euro sports sedan, but better than anything I've owned since my '65 MGB. The tires grip the road. I have a lot of justified confidence in the car's road personality, built up over the past year. The car's acceleration is pleasing, quite satisfactory but not the rocket that our Accord is. However, the Accord's handling is not up to its power, whereas the Mazda 6 could handle more power. In light-duty driving, which I do most of the time, there's a low RPM "sag" in the acceleration curve. I learned how to deal with it and it seems the drive train's software has learned my compensation. I should comment that the car tracks true and straight without any wandering. A teeny bit more directionality would be welcome."

Fredrick S., MD (2017 Mazda 6)

"I really like the looks of the car. The way the speed control keeps you a selected distance between the car in front of you and varies the speed is wonderful. The blind spot monitors are great, and the lane departure warning is very helpful. It is very close to self-driving!"

Anonymous, VA (2017 Mazda 6)

"The handling is fantastic. I always feel confident. The acceleration always leaves you wanting more. The engine always sounds a tad rougher than you'd like it to. Seems less refined than the rest of the car."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Mazda 6)

"great acceleration and great gas mileage. the next one I get may have the Mazda turbo, but in most cases it's not needed, however it would be nice"

Dennis C., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"Handles great, but lacks power unless you wind it up more then I feel is necessary for this class of car. This has been resolved with the 2018 Turbo version, but at a rather large cost in my opinion."

Phillip D., TX (2017 Mazda 6)

"I like its acceleration and handling. I used to own a 2007 Toyota RAV4 and the Mazda 6 drives a lot better. Accelerates faster, corners better, and is more comfortable because of the lower center of gravity."

Charles S., TX (2017 Mazda 6)

"I love driving my 6 and fight my wife over who gets to drive it. The acceleration is more than enough, esp in Sport mode, and it handles like it's on rails."

Ryan M., LA (2017 Mazda 6)

"The car is fast and handles well. It does help to have wider tires than the avg sedan, though it doesn't seem to negatively change the MPG."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"The ease in steering and the way the lights adjust to the steering."

Roger L., AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"Not the most peppy acceleration. But again, gets great mpg so you have to sacrifice some perfomance."

Anonymous, NV (2017 Mazda 6)

"It has great handling for a car its size (mid size sedan). The acceleration with the stick shift is commendable, especially for a four cylinder engine. I average 38 mpg driving the car."

Anonymous, SC (2017 Mazda 6)

"Quick and agile far beyond expectations."

Paul R., TN (2017 Mazda 6)

"Acceleration lags sometimes."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Does everything right and never lets you down."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Mazda 6)

"Smooth acceleration more of a European feel. Very stable around turns.. feels like you’re on rails in the straight away."

Peter C., FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"gas mileage is great on long trips. Very easy to get in and out of."

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"It's got good acceleration and it handles like luxury performance car"

Kenneth C., CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Handling, acceleration are very good. Sear comfort is not."

Loren S., CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"I feel very much in control as the steering and handling is very responsive."

Gary E., ON (2017 Mazda 6)

"Good, ground hugging, steering & control going up & down mountain/steep grades. Nice pickup when passing cars."

Christine R., AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"We have a manual and it accelerates GREAT! Car handles really well, and so smooth."

Steve S., CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"The handling is very good whether on back roads (twisties) or the highway. Most of the time the HP is sufficient, but under certain circumstances (merging on to hwy) I will downshift which makes the merge easier."

Kevin F., MD (2017 Mazda 6)

"Handles almost like a sports sedan. Acceleration feels like a 6 cylinder."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Mazda 6)

"This car handles very well on the road. It haas very good acceleration -- no problem getting onto the freeways here in So. CA. The safety features i.e.. lane control, side view mirrors that let you know when another vehicle is in your blindspot etc. It handles like a more expensive car would."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Both are excelent. too much road noise"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"It has very sport handling"

Anonymous, MD (2017 Mazda 6)

"As I stated, the car hugs the road, & accelerates beautifully."

Christine R., AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"This car drives like a sports car. Even though I only have a 4 cylinder engine the car accelerates well, especially when driving on the highway. If I need to pass or accelerate to avoid an upcoming hazard, I don't feel nervous at all about hitting the gas."

Anonymous, MN (2017 Mazda 6)

"acceleration is bad"

Anonymous, IN (2017 Mazda 6)

"Car is sluggish but handles well. Ride quality can be a little bit stiff and road noise is noticeable."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"This car is fun to drive."

Richard H., PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Acceleration is ok but not as good as in previous car, a VW CC. Overall, handling is very good, the best in its class."

David M., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"Pleasure to drive"

Michael G., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"Handling is excellent for a mid size sedan. Acceleration is good around town and country roads. Could use more power on the freeway. Auto tranmission works great selecting the proper gear and the sport mode does a great job down shifting into corners and holding gears during acceleration and engine breaking down hills."

Richard H., IL (2017 Mazda 6)

"Handling"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Mazda 6)

"There is not a better handling sedan for the price than the Mazda 6. It exudes confidence and is like driving on velcro. The acceleration is spirited and fun to drive with the manual transmission (even though the automatic is actually quicker)"

Richard L., NE (2017 Mazda 6)

"I love the handling on this car. By far the most fun to drive of any of the other sedans in this class that I test drove. The only thing that could be improved is acceleration from a stop (it does fine going from 40 to 60) and I believe Mazda has addressed this in the 2018."

Michael M., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"Car feels under control at all times, even on rough road surfaces. Acceleration is very good and predictable."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda 6)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Drivers seat needs an additional adjustment for front height as well as additional lumbar support. Cabin could use a bit more sound deadening, Otherwise it rides fairly well and is enjoyable to drive."

Gary W., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"Very comfortable seats and a quiet interior. Ride could be a little softer, maybe not such a low profile tire would help. Overall love the car after trading my Mazda 3 for a 6."

Steven O., DE (2017 Mazda 6)

"LOVE DRIVING SPORTINESS ALSO EXCELLENT FUEL MPG SAFTEY BLIND SOPT RADAR CRUISE AND BRAKING AUTO HIGH BEAM AUTO WIPERS HEATED STEERING WHEEL HEATED SEATS HEADLIGHTS STEER WITH CAR"

David S., PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Seats and ride are comfortable. The noise level is a bit high compared to similiar vehicles."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"I'm a fairly big guy, 5'11" 213. At my age, 70 it's sometimes difficult to get in and out of. It seems like there should be more positions I can adjust the power seat to. On trips or driving for awhile my right knee gets sore rubbing up against the side of the consol. How about a little more leg room? Then the passenger seat does not have an available power seat at all. Finally both seats could use a little more padding. I'm hard of hearing and noise insulation could be improved. Even on a smooth highway I have a difficult time hearing what the person sitting next to me is saying over the noise. Ride isn't too bad for the type of car it is."

Gary V., AL (2017 Mazda 6)

"Very noise on highway both road noise due to performance tires on this model. Even wind noise Seats not as comfortable as previous Nissan Ultima"

Anonymous, IN (2017 Mazda 6)

"Seats are fine for short trips but the edges are raised and just a little tight. They start to get uncomfortable after an hour or two."

Robert G., TX (2017 Mazda 6)

"The ability to set multi positions for the front driver seat. The relative smooth ride."

Roger L., AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"Very supportive, relieve driver fatigue over long drives."

Edward C., CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Road noise is louder than I expected."

Linda S., TX (2017 Mazda 6)

"The Dunlop tires that came on the car are noisy,"

Anonymous, VA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Seats are only passably comfortable for longer trips, and ride can be firm. Significant noise filters in through the tires, but I believe that could be ameliorated by a new set."

Christopher S., FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"Road noise too loud. Would like a quieter ride. Seats need better fit to body."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"Seat bolsters are somewhat uncomfortable and can make my hips sore if the seat isn’t adjusted just right."

Matthew C., OH (2017 Mazda 6)

"Seats could use more adjustability. (Thigh support )"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Very good interior comfort. Somewhat noisy (road noise) on the freeway. Gets great mpg so they probably have to sacrifice some sound deadaning material to save weight."

Anonymous, NV (2017 Mazda 6)

"Driver seat is very comfortable. Back seats are hard and flat. Noise level and ride is harsh in back seats."

Richard H., IL (2017 Mazda 6)

"seat heat does not cover enough of seat back or bottom"

Chuck G., WI (2017 Mazda 6)

"The seats a very comfortable and I appreciate the ability to adjust the tilt of the seats. That is something the I specifically looked for in a new car. The ride is very comfortable but also sporty and fun. The noise level is higher than I'd like, however, when driving on the freeway."

Anonymous, WI (2017 Mazda 6)

"The seats are much more supportive than our Accord and have a better range on all adjustments, although I'd still like the seat to go a bit higher and have a bit more tilt back on the horizontal surface. The passenger's seat has a vertical adjustment as well and the rear seats have been comfortable when I've sat back there. The interior and the seats are a perfect size for me. Whereas the Accord has excess bulk that I'm sure is pleasing for some, I like the Mazda's taut interior design. Speaking of taut, the ride is taut and could use some softening on road bumps. The car is quieter inside than I'd been led to believe by CR, but like the Accord, it transmits rough road noise all too well. However, I've noticed that it is NOT a fatiguing car to drive, which I guess is counterintuitive, The climate control is excellent."

Fredrick S., MD (2017 Mazda 6)

"Interior noise is pronounced"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Mazda 6)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"NO OTHER CAR HAD SO MANY FEATES AND WAS AS FUN TO DRIVE WITH GOOG MPG"

David S., PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"I test drove other similar level sedans from Toyota, Kia, and Honda. There was no comparison in the driving experience and looks. The Mazda6 was by far the best for the money. Of course, it helped that there were two dealers willing to bid against each other so I ended up with a great deal. Very comfortable and a fun driving experience."

Michael M., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"All safety features on car. Very fair proce."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Extremely aggressive and competitive on the final price of the car."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"Good value for the money. Excessive road noise can be annoying. Engine is sluggish but transmission is tuned well for it."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Best vehicle for the money"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Mazda 6)

"The car exceeded both my and my wife's expectations. We drove the top cars in it's class and we both raved about the 2017.5 Mazda 6. It's smaller than the Accord or Camry, but the driving experience is much higher. It feels as refined as an Audi A4 at half the cost."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"I very much like the styling and drive as well as the fuel economy . I also got a 4200$ discount plus 500 from mazda for being a current mazda owner ."

Larry B., NS (2017 Mazda 6)

"I received a good price for the 2017 because I bought one of the remaining 2017 models in march 2018 which was a month before the re-designed 2018 model came out. I was able to get a fully loaded grand touring mazda 6 for 23,000."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Mazda 6)

"For 23k, got a beautiful sedan that is super comfy, has plenty of cargo space, and gets great gas mileage. A great trip taker."

David A., AL (2017 Mazda 6)

"I received premium trade in value for my 2010 Miata, plus a great discount om my Mazda 6.. The car looks great and meets all my expectations."

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"Many new safety features come standard."

Richard H., PA (2017 Mazda 6)

"great car for the price, rides well, accelerates well and great gas mileage"

Dennis C., NY (2017 Mazda 6)

"I purchased the car new, which I normally wouldn't do. It is fully loaded, has everything that I needed and more for about $20K. I get great gas mileage, the car has plenty of room and it is very responsive for only being a 4 cylinder engine."

Anonymous, MN (2017 Mazda 6)

"Tremendous value all-around, a steal for the price."

Christopher S., FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"The value of the Mazda 6, relative to the price is exceptional. It has features that I've found in higher end cars such as Audi. The safety features make driving much easier as well. My only complaint aside from noise level while driving on the freeway is that the backup camera doesn't have a sensor."

Anonymous, WI (2017 Mazda 6)

"Seats are not as comfortable as I thought they would be, especially for a long drive"

Loren S., CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"When comparing other cars in the same class, the Mazda 6 provides more bang for the buck"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"The car (2017.5) was listed for $25,700 and I got it for $20,700. It is a great value."

Anonymous, SC (2017 Mazda 6)

"Handles like a bigger Miata"

Paul R., TN (2017 Mazda 6)

"This car was so inexpensive yets drives and handles like a high end car. Amazing quality and value for price. It's a much better alternative to Toyota and Honda -- and way better than Chevy and Ford."

Steve S., CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Great value . Exec acceleration. Too noisy"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Mazda 6)

"This vehicle was a superb value for the new purchase price of approximately $20,000 with dealer and manufacturer incentives. Between the safety features, comfort, tech, handling, and fuel economy, this was a no-brainer purchase."

Christopher A., AZ (2017 Mazda 6)

"Regardless of trim level, the amount of features and options you get for these price points is unparalleled. You cannot beat what Mazda is offering for these low of prices."

Bryan H., TX (2017 Mazda 6)

"We feel like our 6 was a bargain relative to what the vehicle offers. It's beautiful, comfortable, gets fantastic mileage, and is fun to drive. All for under $25k. LOVE IT!!"

Ryan M., LA (2017 Mazda 6)

"My Mazda 6 Grand Touring gives me the same or better driving aids as cars costing twice as much!"

Joe M., CA (2017 Mazda 6)

"Check for Manufacture discounts, be aggressive with the salesman/manager about lowering the price."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Mazda 6)

"i test drove most of the sedans in this class (back in the beginning of 2017) and no other model could match the Mazda6 for the overall package of driving experience, looks, and gas mileage. And with incentives it was significantly cheaper than a similarly equipped Camry or Accord (or even Kia). After a little over a year and 25K miles, I still think it is a fantastic bang for your buck. This is my first Mazda (after only Toyotas and Hondas in the past), but if the reliability holds, it will not be my last."
