2017 Mazda CX-3 Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
New 2021

Mazda CX-3

In a market growing with several tiny SUV options, the Mazda CX-3 is a dapper, well-designed choice. Unlike competitors that appear tall, narrow, and not quite grown-up (Chevrolet Trax, we're looking at you), the CX-3 is a fully formed vehicle. Driving it puts a smile on your face. It's one of the more appealing entries in a new class of wee SUVs, with agile handling and good fuel economy. But it's snug inside.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Easy handling - acceleration average"

David R., ON (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"It’s very fun to drive. Nimble steering and great acceleration."

Amy N., MI (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Quick acceleration - fun to drive"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Acceleration is ridiculous (strong) given the nominal amount of power from the engine. Handling is very much like my previously owned Mazda Miata."

Richard D., VT (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"The CX-3 handles well and is very quick. It's fun to drive."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"I've owned an older BMW and an older Acura - this car out-performs everything I've ever owned. It's fun to drive, handles well and has responsive acceleration. Best car I've ever owned and the upgrades are awesome!"

Anonymous, GA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"This little car makes it a real pleasure to drive on a winding lakeshore road I often use. The six-speed transmission is both responsive and quiet about it and can be flipped into "sports" mode where it is much more aggressive"

Adam B., NS (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Poor acceleration. CX-3 has smarter engine and it show in its performance."

Sonja S., GA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"The CX-3 handles precisely, with good braking, and the automatic transmission (thankfully not a CVT) shifts smoothly and quickly and usually is in the right gear. I like using the paddle shifters if a downshift is needed. The power is marginally okay, but the fuel economy is very good, often 30 in town, especially so for an AWD car."

Herman A., OR (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Seems under-powered but is fun to drive."

Anonymous, NE (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"drives like a Miata, but with 4WD."

J P., CT (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Good acceleration, steering tends to float a little on big curves"

Anonymous, MI (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"This vehicle feels solid and tight. It handles superbly and acceleration is better than any car I've ever owned. From my first test drive I was impressed with how competent and comfortable this car felt on the road."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Acceleration and fuel economy. Great six speed auto transmission. Very nice ride, handling balance."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"This car is very responsive with the sport option, ride is smooth for a small car"

Robert S., FL (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Adequate acceleration when needed. Great fun to drive factor."

Steven W., NY (2017 Mazda CX-3)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats are extremely comfortable, ride is good but road noise is higher than desirable."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Passenger seat too low. Driver seat ok. Noisy ride."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Ride is noisy, especially on long trips. Disappointed in the comfort in ride. Car is not built as well as previous Mazdas. Would not buy Mazda again."

Sonja S., GA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"This is small, sporty SUV, and it rides and drives like one. Noisy and rough ride at highway speed. Seats are comfortable for me, but maybe too narrow for a large person. The large diameter wheels also worsen the ride, but were required if you want the technology and luxury package."

S H., CA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Quiet ride, seats are comfortable - easy to ride long distances"

Anonymous, MI (2017 Mazda CX-3)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Chock full of technology. Great car for the money"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Excellent value for money/"

Richard D., VT (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Car has all of the options and comfort I would want for a very good price."

Jeff S., MA (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"The CX-3 was not an expensive car but at the same time had all the features I wanted. For me, in fact, its small size was one of the features because parking it is a breeze. At the same time it handles beautifully and its transmission shift pattern can be made more aggressive with the flip of a switch."

Adam B., NS (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Car is just for commuting. back seat is very small, but it has good cargo room with the seats down, great gas milage and fun to drive."

Dan G., IL (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"you can tell much thought and engineering expertise went into the development of this vehicle."

J P., CT (2017 Mazda CX-3)

"Best out there for the dollar. Quality materials and technology make this a no brainer."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Mazda CX-3)
