The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2024 Mazda CX-5 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

What Owners Say

Android Auto

"The randomly loses the Android Connect. While driving and DEPENDING on GPS the screen will go blank and the connection will be lost but the phone screen will say the navigation is unavailable on the phone because the phone is connected to the car. This has been an issue the entire time I have owned the car. The problem is NOT resolved and is a widespread problem among Android users according to internet research."

Anonymous A., VA (2024 Mazda CX-5 Turbo 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Apple CarPlay

"Loses connection a lot and maps display does not always show. Its not because of service, service is fine its the program thats inconsistent"

Anonymous, CT (2024 Mazda CX-5 Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Display screen goes blank

"Happened a couple times, Mazda doesnt show a problem when running it through their computer. Happened with my 2020 Mazda CX5 too."

Anonymous, CT (2024 Mazda CX-5 Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

""I use a lightning cable to connect my phone to my car. About 35% of the time, I have to delay my trip, or pull over to jiggle the cable, disconnect and reconnect it, clean the ends of the cable, etc until Apple CarPlay becomes accessible. I really rely on my map system because I'm a real estate agent and regularly going to unfamiliar places.""

Anonymous A., MN (2024 Mazda CX-5 Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

""Fuel gauge inaccurate reading and inaccurate fuel system notifications regarding fuel level. Experienced 1X, and within 1 month of taking delivery of vehicle. This occurred upon starting vehicle, and immediately after refueling tank to full level from 1/4 tank. Experienced red flashing notification on instrument panel "refuel tank empty", and number of miles until empty indicating "2". Fuel needle on "E". Fuel needle gauge would very slowly rise as vehicle was driven. By the time vehicle was taken into the dealership a few days later, the instrument panel indicated "71 miles till empty" and fuel gauge needle indicated a little below 1/4 tank. Dealership performed diagnostics and consulted with Mazda tech line engineering to review data; then key-cycled ignition 10X, after which gauge read correctly and in unison with actual fuel level in tank. To verify, tech line advised to "clear and keep alive memory", after which it was verified that gauge still reading correctly. Per tech line, ignition was either on or on ACC mode while refueling (neither of which is true, as Washington state does not allow engine to be running while refueling, and I only pushed the start button 1X to turn off the engine) causing float on pump not to register being filled; then once vehicle is started, float is now pushed to the bottom of tank; once vehicle was started and running, the float slowly rose to correct fuel level but this may take several key cycles as float is having to push up through fuel in tank; but if refueling while ignition is off, then float is free and will rise with fuel level as it rises. Have not experienced this issue since.""

"Trunk would not close. Went multiple times to dealership. They thought I was crazy they would fix the problem. Trunk wouldnt close at all. Turns out struts from factory that open and closed the trunk were defective. After 5-6 trips to dealership they finally fixed problem and trunk now opens and closed properly"
