Almost forgotten by car buyers, the Mazda CX-9 provides a pleasant three-row SUV alternative. Agile handling that masks its size is a nice surprise, as a run down a twisty back road will attest. The ride is firm and steady, proving comfortable on a variety of roads and the quiet cabin contributes to a calm cruise.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

“This is mostly my wife's car. It's very nice and reliable. I like that even though it can seat seven in a pinch, it drives like a sports car. This is the Grand Touring which has the 20 inch wheels. It makes it corner very well but the ride can be a little stiff because of that. It's definitely a drivers car and it has proven comfortable in long trips. The main complaint (has nothing to do with acceleration and handling ) has been the GPS system. It was not up to date since day one. Map updates”

PEDRO F., FL (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Great acceleration and turning radius. Quiet ride. Comfortable inside, with lots of room”

PETER U., FL (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Strong acceleration. Very good handling. Does not feel like you're driving a 2+ ton SUV”

CHARLES M., MO (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Although this is a heavy car the V6 engine and automatic transmission provide very good acceleration and seem very well engineered.”

Anonymous, CO (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Difficult to see when backing up. Definitely should have gotten the rear camera feature.”

Anonymous, NC (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Handles excellent - very smooth driving for the size of the vehicle”

RICKY W., GA (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Nice vehicle, very reliable ... gasoline mileage in line with what one would realistically expect in a vehicle of its size and type (All Wheel Drive larger SUV).”

JAMES M., NE (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Comfortable seats, cold air and a quiet cabin.”

WILLIAM F., GA (2008 Mazda CX-9)

What Owners Say

“The Mazda CX-9 is a comfortable and reliable larger All Wheel Drive SUV. Great value !”

JAMES M., NE (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“Not a very good car. Flawed auto wiper system. Difficult to use navigation system. We get recall notices and faker either knows nothing about recall or doesn't have the parts to fix it. Recently we received a recall on the airbags and notice not to have anyone ride in passenger seat. Asked dealer to replace airbags and they said had no parts and no idea when hey would. Asked them for a loaner until they could fix and they said Mazda doesn't authorize this. Won't ever buy a stinking Mazda again.”

Anonymous, CA (2008 Mazda CX-9)

“I think it's good value, only disappointment is the gas mileage.”

LU W., CA (2008 Mazda CX-9)
