Almost forgotten by car buyers, the Mazda CX-9 provides a pleasant three-row SUV alternative. Agile handling that masks its size is a nice surprise, as a run down a twisty back road will attest. The ride is firm and steady, proving comfortable on a variety of roads and the quiet cabin contributes to a calm cruise.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“We had a serious problem with the CX-9. The accelerator stuck during high speed driving. My wife had to hit the brakes 3 times before she was able to control her speed. The dealership confirmed that the car showed a code that both the accelerator & brake were engaged at the same time. To date they have been unable to replicate so they do not know how to fix it.”

Anonymous, VA (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“The ONLY 3 row sports car masked as an SUV. There is nothing else like it. Period! 0-60 in 7sec and 80g handling! Awesome! No, I do not work for Mazda. Just a real driver.”

S S., OR (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“Length and rear visibility make it very difficult to manuever in parking lots”

GENE T., WI (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“Holds tremendous amount of cargo with both 2nd and 3rd seats folded, but drives like a car in terms of very good acceleration and good cornering and road handling.”

Anonymous, NY (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“I have driven this car four times across the country (2 roundtrips from Florida to Northern California). My wife has to remind me its time to stop, because I can drive for 10 hrs. plus in comfort. My wife, who has Parkinson's Disease, has no trouble getting in and out of the car. It is VERY quiet on the road, and A/C works great even in Florida's 95-degree-plus heat.”

DAVID L., CA (2013 Mazda CX-9)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Overall car is a good value for what we paid, but we also got what we paid for. Car has had several issues over the years, and most esp. because of its cheap plastic body. Pieces fall off regularly, and it's costly to have them replaced or repaired.”

Anonymous, NH (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“drives, looks and feels like cars that cost $10,000 more (Infinity/Lexus class).”

Anonymous, CA (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“Very good value when comparing to competitors considering the amount of equipment (Nav, XM...)”

Anonymous, KS (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“When shopping for this car we drove all the suspects in the group - Highlander, Explorer, Flex, Pathfinder, even a MDX... for the money this was the best equiped car”

Anonymous, NY (2013 Mazda CX-9)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“I love the blue green color.”

Anonymous, NH (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“At first I felt the center console was quite large and made the seating area feel crowded. I have grown accustomed to it and only notice it when I ride front seat in an SUV that doesn't have the large console.”

CHRISTINE I., AZ (2013 Mazda CX-9)

“quality of paint job is not very good...lots of chips and dings. Sound system is below par. Not user friendly and of poor quality. Love the look of the car and the quality of the interior workmanship is satisfactory. Car is a pleasure to drive, handles very well. Thought it would be a little better with traction on ice and snow.”

G H., MT (2013 Mazda CX-9)
