Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Gerard F., MA (2010 Nissan Altima Hybrid 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Rotors rust prematurely. The original rotors were replaced after one year, at the company’s cost. The rotors were replaced again about a year go, at my cost. The car lives in Annapolis, MD with brackish air but we have never had serious rotor problems with other cars (VW, Jeep Cherokee, Mazda). Nissan rotor quality seems to be sub-par, which is why we would not purchase another Nissan in the future."

Anonymous, AZ (2010 Nissan Altima SR 3.5-L V6)

Daisy J., VA (2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The brakes on this vehicle have been a problem for many years. The brakes have squeaked and grinded. The dealership kept saying that there was not a problem. Once the extended warranty expired, the dealership said that we needed major work on the brakes which cost around $500-$600 dollars. They have continued to squeak periodically."

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"REAR DOOR ACCUMULATED WATER IN RAIN"

Anonymous, FL (2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Early in the period of ownership one of the doors would fill with water when it rained. After a few service calls the problem seems to have been fixed but we have no way of knowing whether anything in the door will fail prematurely because of rust."

Anonymous, AZ (2010 Nissan Altima SR 3.5-L V6)

"The drain on both front doors clogs repeatedly. The door seems to drip into the cabin when it is full. Also, the windshield seal is failing and will leak in heavy rain"

James Y., OR (2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Seals on right front door were poor quality and drainage holes in the door were clogged, so when it rained the door filled with water. The drains were corrected by the dealer but we suspect the inside of the door is rusted and will not have its normal life"

Seals and/or weather-stripping

"I believe the seals/weather stripping was not properly replaced by the dealer after I took the vehicle in for service on the door locks. I have had water pooling at the bottom of each of the 4 doors after severe rain storms for 3 years. Service department was not certain that was the case and tried alternate repair method. This has failed as well. Will no longer consider dealership for future purchases."

Gauges

"This may be duplicated in the other section of the survey. After work one day, I was unable to start my altima. I learned from AAA towing that I had a dead battery that would not hold any charge (even a jump). Towing the Altima to a dealer was required, and I learned that the battery was completely dead, and that several fuses on the fusible shunt assembly (I don't recall its official name) had been blown (too much current). Apparently, the vehicle was drawing very high current (literally destroying a cell on the battery) until eventually once of the high current shunts blew. Of particular concern was that the battery had been replaced less than 4 months prior as a routine preventative measure (the car sits unused every 2 or 3 weeks as I travel for work) The dealer mechanic was unable to find any reason for the failure. Checks on various online forums reported similar issues with undetermined reasons for failure. I am now experiencing a condition where the digital status screen is intermittent and unreadable 95% of the time that does not affect the operation of the vehicle (it's just irritating)."
