Redesigned for 2004, this version of the Maxima was signifcantly improved over the previous model. We like its quick, refined powertrain and roomy interior. However, a stiff ride and a wide turning circle detract from the overall package.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“It was a great choice, it runs well, with some maintenance, is roomy, strong, reliable, has lots of comfort.”

MILES E., WY (2004 Nissan Maxima)

“I like the styling, the power and handling and a nice car for the money. We have had 5 Maximas.”

B S., AZ (2004 Nissan Maxima)

“Bought car online and did not have it checked by a mechanic. Car was low mileage but previous owner apparently did not properly maintain it and it used a large amount of oil and smoked often on start up. Cheapest repair was to replace engine with a known good used engine. Other than timing chain problem, it was my fault for not having car inspected before purchase.”

ARTHUR S., NE (2004 Nissan Maxima)
