The Maxima is a quick car, but it doesn't add much over the less costly Nissan Altima overall. While pleasant, it falls short in some ways. Handling is responsive, but at low speeds the steering is overly light. The car is quiet, and the ride is decent. But the new coupelike silhouette has compromised visibility, trunk room and rear-seat comfort.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Excellent acceleration Sometimes feels like it could slide out in higher speed turns Tires break free on wet pavement even with traction control”

KEN V., NE (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“I LOVE this car! It has the Sport Package and is so fun to drive. Great acceleration and handles well.”

Anonymous, AR (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“good over all car and easy to maintain”

Anonymous, NJ (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“CVT transmission is unresponsive and slow. Excessive "squat" under acceleration. Excessive body roll, and torque steer is off the chart. Steering is too loose at speed. Handles like the last model Impala. Bad. Transmission imploded at 72,775 miles but at least it was covered by Nissan. Driver seat malfunctioned at 35,000 miles and wont move forward or backward. The positives; car looks good and is very comfortable.”

ANDREW H., GA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“Extremely happy with the get-up-and-go. When I need to pass someone in an instant, it always gets the job done.”

FRANK F., FL (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“The CVT is so well matched to this engine it provides performance beyond expectations for a four door sedan with a V6.”

STEPHEN L., WI (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“Great acceleration in the sport mode Aggressive handling”

Anonymous, MA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“Overall driveability is great, especially the acceleration, steering and quiet ride.”

GLENN P., PA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“I love the acceleration and the paddle shifters but the torque steering gets a bit hairy with a hard gas pedal. It tends to jerk right or left and you have to hand on to the steering wheel to keep control.”

DANIEL P., TX (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“Handles very well, accelerates rapidly, shifting with paddles is quick, shifting either manual or automatic is smooth”

DAVID C., IA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“LOVE the continuously variable transmission, makes for a very smooth ride. Handles great. Very nice on long drives as well.”

Anonymous, PA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Comfort is good and auto adjusting is handy.”

LARRY C., AZ (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“It is a sport car & the ride is not as comfortable as a luxury car. It didn't realize that I would prefer a luxury car, until I purchased the sport car.”

DENISE G., IL (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“very comfortable seats with heat & cooling, very quiet-no road noise”

Anonymous, PA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“driver's seat has a thigh extension - something I've not seen in any other car. It really makes my driving long distances much more comfortable.”

Anonymous, MN (2010 Nissan Maxima)

“I believe that the manufacturer could have made a better overall quality of seating materials such as it did so with 2016 Maxima!”

Anonymous, MA (2010 Nissan Maxima)
