The Maxima is a quick car, but it doesn't add much over the less costly Nissan Altima overall. While pleasant, it falls short in some ways. Handling is responsive, but at low speeds the steering is overly light. The car is quiet, and the ride is decent. But the new coupelike silhouette has compromised visibility, trunk room and rear-seat comfort.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Anonymous, ID (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Fast and fun"

Rick S., CA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"To much torc and oversteer with front wheel drive and power"

Anonymous, IL (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"the Nissan Maxima has plenty of power and handles well."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Even though it is older it accelerates quickly and smoothly and handles easily and is fun to drive. If you ask this car to move it GOES."

Anonymous, AL (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Excellent"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"The car seems to have endless reserves of power - more than I've required for any situation in seven+ years of driving. Torque, which used to be a major concern for powerful front wheel drive vehicles, is well constrained with this Maxima."

Philip H., VA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Excellent acceleration and highway fuel economy is very good. Downside is that it uses premium fuel."

Gerard S., NH (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"No issues have been experienced in this subject since the first day I drove it off the lot."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"has great acceleration when you want to pass on the highway or 2 lane roads"

Anonymous, KS (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"The transmission (CVT) is mushy. Feels like an electric tow motor than never changes gear. It performs OK, but I do not like the CVT"

Anonymous, NC (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Acceleration"

Anonymous, NY (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Great driving experience. No significant mechanical or other problems for 7 years. Very reliable car. Looks and drives great. Acceleration for passing and the like is terrific."

Steve P., WV (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Excellent acceleration Sometimes feels like it could slide out in higher speed turns Tires break free on wet pavement even with traction control"

KEN V., NE (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"I LOVE this car! It has the Sport Package and is so fun to drive. Great acceleration and handles well."

Anonymous, AR (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"good over all car and easy to maintain"

Anonymous, NJ (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"CVT transmission is unresponsive and slow. Excessive "squat" under acceleration. Excessive body roll, and torque steer is off the chart. Steering is too loose at speed. Handles like the last model Impala. Bad. Transmission imploded at 72,775 miles but at least it was covered by Nissan. Driver seat malfunctioned at 35,000 miles and wont move forward or backward. The positives; car looks good and is very comfortable."

ANDREW H., GA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Extremely happy with the get-up-and-go. When I need to pass someone in an instant, it always gets the job done."

FRANK F., FL (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"The CVT is so well matched to this engine it provides performance beyond expectations for a four door sedan with a V6."

STEPHEN L., WI (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Great acceleration in the sport mode Aggressive handling"

Anonymous, MA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Overall driveability is great, especially the acceleration, steering and quiet ride."

GLENN P., PA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"I love the acceleration and the paddle shifters but the torque steering gets a bit hairy with a hard gas pedal. It tends to jerk right or left and you have to hand on to the steering wheel to keep control."

DANIEL P., TX (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Handles very well, accelerates rapidly, shifting with paddles is quick, shifting either manual or automatic is smooth"

DAVID C., IA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"LOVE the continuously variable transmission, makes for a very smooth ride. Handles great. Very nice on long drives as well."

Anonymous, PA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Zero gravity seats are very comfortable and give good lumbar support. Long drives are not so tiring."

Frank S., SC (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"The overall ride is very hard. The seats and noise are both good."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Seats and limited road noise are great."

Richard F., CA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Comfort and position of seats are excellent. Love the ride but harsh because of performance pkg -hard bushing, springs, shocks but flat cornering. Noise is somewhat noticable"

David H., OR (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"The ride is not as smooth in city driving. It’s much more comfortable at highway speeds."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Confortable seats, excellent ride and not noise"

Anonymous, ID (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"The car meets my physical changes extremely well. I am an old guy with pains and this car allows me to ride in comfort."

Anonymous, WA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"comfortable and adjustable"

Anonymous, IL (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Nissan should be ashamed not to have dampened the road noise on this otherwise great valued car."

Anonymous, GA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Very uncomfortable"

Anonymous, NJ (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Comfort, quiet and easy ride."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Seats very adjustable and comfortable"

Anonymous, NC (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"This car is roomy, rides well, and provides very comfortable transportation. Very little noise intrudes into the cabin. The car handles more like a European sedan than an American vehicle."

Philip H., VA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"Comfort is good and auto adjusting is handy."

LARRY C., AZ (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"It is a sport car & the ride is not as comfortable as a luxury car. It didn't realize that I would prefer a luxury car, until I purchased the sport car."

DENISE G., IL (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"very comfortable seats with heat & cooling, very quiet-no road noise"

Anonymous, PA (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"driver's seat has a thigh extension - something I've not seen in any other car. It really makes my driving long distances much more comfortable."

Anonymous, MN (2010 Nissan Maxima)

"I believe that the manufacturer could have made a better overall quality of seating materials such as it did so with 2016 Maxima!"

Anonymous, MA (2010 Nissan Maxima)
