Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Ram 1500 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Android Auto

"Android Auto is poorly designed and works poorly"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"Connectivity to phone is not consistent. Cannot use all features unless I use a USB cable. If not improved I will not buy another Ram."

Anonymous, IN (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)
Backup or other camera/sensors

"The dealership performed a software update (for $50)that resolved most of the issues. However, since that update the backup camera has intermittently stopped working a few more times. It tends to last less than 24 hrs at a time but it is irritating. When you shift into reverse the screen just flips to a solid blue until you shift out of reverse."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Ram 1500 Laramie 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"The cameras stopped working during the winter months due to snow and ice build up (per the technician that repaired it). Also had problems after taking the truck through the car wash. Problem was fixed and has not been noticed since"

Anonymous, (2018 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)
Display screen goes blank

Anonymous, ON (2018 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman 5.7-L V8)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Impossible to get incoming calls to go straight to in cab system. Every inbound call requires at least a double button push on cell to get call to go to in cab speaker. Brother bought same truck at same time as me. Has same problem. When first stRting truck, if I put car in reverse before waiting 2-3 minutes, the reverse camera overrides all other technology. Prevents phone from pairing, etc."

"There is a squeaking/rattling between the cab and bed of the truck. Still need dealer to check out and fix, just purchased..."

Neil W., AZ (2018 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)
Wind noise

"The wind noise coming from the Driver side is terrible. I have had it diagnosed by two different Dealers and they don't know what to do. The wind noise is very loud. I am a disabled veteran and one of my issues is hearing. I was working with Ram for several months about the wind noise and in the end, they were really nasty to me. I asked them to exchange the vehicle due to my disability. They told me they don't have to do anything for me as it was not a safety or mechanical issue and closed the case. It was a-lot nastier than I am making it sound. The wind noise is so bad, I only have 10,000 miles on a 2018 vehicle. Than God it is a lease. I will never buy a Ram again."

Jeffrey G., MN (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

Ram said since it was not a safety issue, they were not obligated to do anything for me since it could not be fixed. They offered me an oil change deal, which I refused. Ram then hung up on me."

Anonymous, BC (2018 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"The auto height adjust feature stopped working, and while I could drive the vehicle leaving it at the height could cause serious damage. While it is a useful feature for entering and exiting the vehicle, particularly for an older family member, I would not get this again. Dealer indicated this was a frequent problem w this feature"

Driveline vibration

"was faulty u joint"

Judith B., PA (2018 Ram 1500 Express 3.6-L V6)

"We purchased this vehicle to use as a work truck. the first day we picked it up it had a vibration starting at about 50 mph. I had been driving it and noticed it. I then had my husband drive it to be sure I wasn't crazy. He said it was vibrating so we took it to our selling dealer and they balanced all four wheels. Said It's fixed now. Well I drove it another couple of days. Now WORSE. Took it back and this time I waited for seven hours for them to change out all four wheels and tires from another truck with exact tires. NOW it's fixed. We test drove it and they sent me home with a loaner car. I didn't buy a car for work, I bought a TRUCK. They called the next day and said they were replacing the drivetrain because these trucks have had a lot of problems with them. Now waited another full day for the part and the whole NEXT day for the replacing of the drivetrain. So this is 3 full days with no truck. We picked it up and the service manager drove for the test drive on a not very smooth road. Well it still shook but I was willing to give it a try. I took it home and now it starts at 45 mph. I just took it to another dealer to see if they can fix it. If not we will be notifying the Company for further help. We will probably be going for another new vehicle. Which I imagine will be a big problem for us. When you pay well over $30,000.00 for a vehicle you want one that runs correctly. So far I am very unhappy with this vehicle."

Julie W., OH (2018 Ram 1500 Tradesman 3.6-L V6)
Electrical failure

"Truck is only one year old should not be having these problems with the wiring harness in my opinion."

What Owners Say

"On a 95 degree day, my AC started blowing hot Air. I brought it into the Dealer and it ended up being a bigger deal than originally thought. There was a recall on the AC System. It took over a month to fix the AC system during the hottest part of the summer."

Jeffrey G., MN (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)
Automatic climate control

"The air quit blowing out of vents. Dealer replaced 3 wiring harness and returned to me. Had to bring back to dealer for no cold air blowing out of vents. Dealer is now going to replace heater box. Truck was in repair shop for 2 weeks each time. I was provided with a free rental each time."

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
Summary:
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
What should you do:
Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will update the Body Control Module software. Dealers will also test the BTSI operation, replacing the solenoid as necessary. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U11.
