Subaru XV Crosstrek

The Crosstrek is basically an Impreza hatchback with a higher ride height, added body cladding, and large wheels intended to give it a more rugged look. The regular Crosstrek's 148-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine helps it deliver a frugal 26 mpg overall, which made it among the most fuel-efficient SUVs in the class during its time. But this compact vehicle doesn't provide as much cargo room as most small SUVs.

"CVT requires a light touch on the gas. Too much pressure on the gas pedal results in high revs and little acceleration. Kind of like the old Buick Dyna-flo. Won't win any drag races with this car. Aside from the analog speedometer and Tach, the instruments are very hard to read in daylight. The little screen between the speedo and tach is virtually worthless. Replace the little "how many miles per gallon" gauge with a standard analog gas gauge."

Disappointing gas mileage."

"Subaru stood out in general for their AWD system. Compared to other brands, Subaru came in much less expensive, and was the only brand to offer cars smaller than an SUV with all wheel drive. I take my Crosstrek on light off-road adventures a few times a year - nothing extreme, but enough that lower clearance cars would struggle - and it's been an absolute champ. In Colorado winters, the heated mirrors and wipers are great. I just turn on the car and start the defrosters, and by the time I finish wiping off the roof, the windshield's melted and ready to wipe off."
