What Owners Say
"Voice control is worthless. Dealer couldn't fix it"
John V., NJ (2017 Toyota Avalon XLE 3.5-L V6)"GPS would suddenly start tracking to points off the map. Began to track to locations with coordinates in the Pacific Ocean."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Avalon Limited 3.5-L V6)"It put me in the middle of some ocean and would not reset"
Don S., OK (2017 Toyota Avalon XLE 3.5-L V6)"Will not allow you to enter an address that is not in the system"
Anonymous, TX (2017 Toyota Avalon Premium 3.5-L V6)"This system omits some locations without telling how/why. Has in the past directed circular routes, getting us nowhere. Updates not available except in a useless four year cycle. Often picks indirect, out of the way routes when consulted. Often limits your ability to enter addresses etc.Has less abilities than cell phones. We have had to use phones to get out of situations car put us in."
Anonymous, MA (2017 Toyota Avalon Premium 3.5-L V6)"The entire infotainment system is malfunctioning Changing radio station changes Ac,fan speed etc Opening screen changes by itself AC speed, fan speed change by itself Any combination Toyota at this point won't replace because it I can't control malfunctions. System does what it wants to do, when it wants to do it. I have no way of demonstrating it. Happens one or more times per day. VERY VERY Frustrating"
Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Avalon XLE 3.5-L V6)"The phone (iPhone 12 MAX) inconsistently pairs with the unit, it loses out going voice transmission, and other features like voice text and dialing. It's really a piece of junk we rarely use it and use an app like Waze for navigation. We are contemplating ripping it out and getting a quality aftermarket unit. When it pairs it does sound good."
Greg J., WV (2017 Toyota Avalon Limited 3.5-L V6)"I had to re-pair the phone twice, the third time I took it to the dealership. They. We’re able the pair the phone."
Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Avalon Premium 3.5-L V6)"The unit pairs but when using the hands free feature the outgoing voice in unintelligible to the other party. You can play music, if you select the phone BEFORE putting it in gear. You can change between radio bands and CD, but not the phone. The navigation works, but you have to stop and put the car in park to use it, we just use Wayz on our phones, so much more user friendly. So that was a waste of $4K, I'll never get navigation on a new car again it's such a waste. The local dealer has tried to fix it three times to no avail. Investigating replacing the head unit we were advised it couldn't be done. So if we want hands free phone it will cost $40K to replace the vehicle. My wife who is the main driver has a 1/2 mile commute so it isn't worth $40k to replace a car with 19K miles. It is the only thing we have had trouble with the car. We usually just keep the whole system turned off. Most of the other silly electronic gadgets we just turned off, so if they quit working we will never know."
Anonymous, WV (2017 Toyota Avalon Limited 3.5-L V6)"Nav System has no usable, convenient dealer fixes. It therefore gets outdated quickly and routinely. There is a port for updates, but engineers apparently did not consider it important at the time. Automatic headlights shut down bright lite capability, usually without notice or explanation. Dealer can not understand or explain this."
Anonymous, MA (2017 Toyota Avalon Premium 3.5-L V6)"I do not get notifications when there is a update for my Avalon."
Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Avalon Premium 3.5-L V6)"Voice control doesn't work for navigation. Dealer has been unable to fix it after multiple attempts"
John V., NJ (2017 Toyota Avalon XLE 3.5-L V6)"Have ran voice recognition 3 times and it still does not understand. For example, looking for Utica NY and the answer was, can not locate a Del Taco ?????"
Anonymous, NH (2017 Toyota Avalon Limited 3.5-L V6)
"Phone disconnected itself and erased lots of my contacts, settings"
