While still a good, reliable car, the Corolla is not one of the best in this crowded and competitive market segment. It does fairly well in most major areas of performance and design, although it doesn't stand out in any.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"This car is light and basic, the steering center and feed back is right and thus contributes to making it easy and fun to drive. The automatic transmission engagement when you press the gas is better other small new cars with CVT or multiclutch automatics."

Anonymous, CT (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"The vehicle has a very responsive acceleration."

Carol A., WI (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"This is a CE model with many miles on it, which actually makes it quicker in acceleration than the 2004. Its handling is the same as the 2004."

Lee O., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"The handling is really great. Very easy to maneuver in all kinds of traffic, conditions. Very easy to parallel park, and U-turn. The acceleration is also very good especially for such a small economy car."

Anonymous, NY (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Acceleration and handling very satisfied with. Road noice is the only criticism I can have."

Ergun C., ON (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"It suites me well"

Richard L., NC (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"About the same as my comments about the 2004 - although the 2000 accelerates a bit faster [less weigh and looser engine]."

Lee O., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Very reliable"

Anonymous, CT (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Exc for 20 yo car. Put in a new clutch recently, drives like new almost. For a manual drive small car, all aspects are good to excellent."

Anonymous, NC (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Obviously, I don't drive long distances. In city traffic this car gets me where I have to go. No phone, no special features. Does well in my suburban Chicago conditions."

Anonymous, IL (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"The overall reliability of the 2000 Corolla!"

HENRY W., ID (2000 Toyota Corolla)

Anonymous, OH (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Was great until moisture got into computer systems, now she delays on acceleration."

Anonymous, BC (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Loss of power during acceleration when engine is cold. Acceleration is much better if I shut the engine off and re start. purchased 2000 Toyota Corolla with 160,000 miles on it."

W M., TN (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"I get a check engine light almost yearly with nothing actually wrong but it cost me $100.00+ to verify that nothing is really wrong but the light has to be extinguished or it won't pass the mandatory emissions rest. otherwise the car has been quite good to me."

DONALD T., CT (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Handling is NOT Corvette-like, and it a bit too soft, meaning dips in the road, especially in any curved sections, is a bit disconcerting at times."

STEVE W., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"This car just goes, it's the best."

STEVEN C., FL (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"This car was a terrific value. I knew the previous owner- a timid driver who was fanatical about regular servicing. We got it for $2K with 24.000 miles on it."

JULIE N., MA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"For a short person, 5 feet tall, the seat pulls forward far enough to comfortably reach the gas and brake pedals."

Carol A., WI (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"The seats are low set, and not enough leg room in the back seat for adults. The road noise at highway speeds make it difficult to hear conversations in the cabin. Additionally, the acoustics of the cabin make it difficult for those in the back seat to hear what's said in the front seats."

Daniel S., IN (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Seats are a little too low."

Anonymous, FL (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Pro ride is good (not too "soft" not too hard con for 69 year old - hard to get out of"

Richard L., NC (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"(Actually, a '95 station wagon) Above all, RELIABILITY. After 230000 miles, it still has the original clutch, manual transmission, and engine (except for timing belts and a new starter). And CONVENIENCE: as cyclists we can put our two bicycles in the back without removing any wheels. The only bad thing is a long-term, persistent thirst for oil - better than a quart per 1000 miles - but oil is much cheaper than an engine job. As long as it runs, we'll keep it. It's almost an antique!"

O D., GA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Small car, purchased used with over 200K miles. I wasn't expecting much and didn't get much. The car has a small interior. Not an option for trips longer than 2 hours."

Kirk J., UT (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"The seats are comfortable but the ride is a little rough. The car has great acceleration and handling, but there is very little shock absorption."

Anonymous, NY (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Given that the car is 20 years old, it's a bit noisy. The ride is exc for car this age, ditto mileage. The seats could be higher, I am 5'4", a common problem for me."

Anonymous, NC (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Tires are "off" size. Hard to find."

Anonymous, CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"A/C not functioning"

BRIAN S., MA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"excessive road noise. not all that loud but the cabin could be quieter. seats are o.k. for about the 1st hr. -1/12 hrs.. heating & air conditioning have been very good to me."

DONALD T., CT (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"For a "budget" smallish car it affords decent, though not exceptional, comfortability"

DAN C., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"My only complaint is road noise. It would be great if it were quieter."

LINDA A., OR (2000 Toyota Corolla)

Anonymous, NV (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"good gas mileage and reliable"

Anonymous, MO (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"The Toyota have consistently been an excellent value and I have stuck with it since I got bummed with a Buick back in the 70's/80's."

JOHN L., NY (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Have had good experience with car. Low maintenance. Good on gas mileage. Nothing fancy."

H T., TX (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"No major repairs for two years. Only complaint is colored light on dash has stopped working and trip mileage on odomomoter stopped. Very miner."

JIM W., CO (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Just a terrific car."

TODD E., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"We have hardly spent any money on repairs other than routine maintenance. Remarkable considering the odometer shows over 225k miles."

THOMAS F., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"This car hardly ever needs repairs--maybe partly because it has such low mileage but it is the greatest car we've ever owned."

Anonymous, CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Got it from a friend for $1k, which is probably below market value, but it has some quirks like the engine failing to accelerate on demand randomly."

GORDON D., PA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"My car is actually a 1999 but you don't go that far back. I performed all the scheduled maintenance at the proper time. I did have a problem with the driver's belt buckle breaking. All in all it is a great car and it's still on the road and I would buy it again."

LESLIE J., TX (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"I believe the Toyota Corollas are some of the best cars out in the market during the 1997 to 2003 time period since they were ahead of other cars with regards to mileage and the price you paid for the cars."

Anonymous, CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Highly reliable and cost efficient"

JOHN R., CO (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"This car has been a real trooper, lasted 15 years and still counting. A/C still working after 15 years, unlike my previous car (Sentra) where the A/C failed after 8 years. No major problems in all of these years, impressively trouble-free and reliable."

MARTIN C., MD (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"This car has Never given us any problems, just regular maintenance. We drive both our Corolla's (2000 & the 2014) highway and city to get the best gas mileage, we get 42 MPG on both cars."

HENRY W., ID (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Its been through 5 family members and has come back to us, and it still performs very well."

LEE O., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"We had a mechanic check it out and he was surprised to find nothing wrong with it. The car has since had the handle on the driver's side break completely. My daughter figured out a way to rig it so it's, no problem."

JACQUELINE H., AZ (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"This car may eventually fall apart around you, but it will continue to run longer than just about any other brand. It is excellent reliable and affordable transportation."

RYAN K., MN (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Aside from staying on top of maintenance and replacing things that wear out like brakes, struts and hoses, I have never had any problems with this vehicle in the 16 years that I've owned it."

MANUEL K., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Very inexpensive to maintain & keeps on "going!""

Anonymous, OH (2000 Toyota Corolla)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"It is as bland as they come, though the nose is a little more attractive than the rest of the car."

STEVE W., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"Simple lines, uncluttered, think new cars are too fancy"

TEDI S., CA (2000 Toyota Corolla)

"After 16 years of ownership, the style of my car is still not out of date."
