Roomy inside without feeling large outside, the Toyota Corolla is also impressively quiet. Corolla also has excellent fuel economy, while still posting good acceleration times, handling competently and providing a comfortable ride. The one drawback -- some of our drivers were not comfortable with the driving position. Overall, though, the Corolla is a fine choice.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“At 11 years and 63,000 miles the A/C is not blowing quite as cold as it used to. Also, there is a noticeable change in engine power usage (RPM's increase) when the A/C is turned on.”

Anonymous, CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“A great family car. Small enough for city and big enough for the highway. good acceleration, good braking, nimble handling.”

THOMAS M., AL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“I can afford to buy a new car but this car is so much fun to drive, for me, buying a new car is not even a consideration. I think this car may have the engine of the Toyota FX. It has incredible acceleration, & handles beautifully, It hugs the curves, is exceptionally responsive & still takes off "like a bat out of hell". Repairs have been minimal - tires, etc. Nothing else has required repairs.”

JANET M., RI (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“acceleration for a 4 cyl. is excellent. handling for this old car is quite good.”

Anonymous, NV (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“drives exceedingly smoothly and accelerates well”

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Not built for people who are tall”

ROBERT E., OH (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“seats and ride”

PATRICIA L., NY (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Very noisy in cabin area when driving”

RICHARD R., CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The only problem I have with this car relates to its size. When I have a front seat passenger I have to put my purse in the rear seat because there is no room for it up front. However, when I consider the great gas mileage I get, I guess there had to be a compromise somewhere.”

CAROL K., NJ (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Very noisy engine.”

Anonymous, CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are very low and somewhat difficult to enter and exit the vehicle.”

DAVID P., MN (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Blower motor lost two levels of fab speed”

MATTHEW B., WI (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“For a 6-ft person, the cabin is too cramped; headroom too low, and I frequently hit my head on door jamb during exits or entrances. Just too small for a 6-ft person. I feel I'm assaulted by unexpected head blows trying to get or out, and I respond with censored outbursts over the pains.”

PAUL T., NY (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are comfortable. Air conditioning is excellent. Noise level is high much of the time. Ride is pretty good.”

PATRICK H., AZ (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“every thing works and is still working, not like my old car bought new”

Anonymous, ON (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“seats, ride”

Anonymous, CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Driver's seat becomes uncomfortable on long trips. Needs more padding on the bottom and more back support.”

Anonymous, FL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Only complain about car is lack of space in back seat.”

Anonymous, MI (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The seats are too low, particularly in comparison to any other car I've had. The device to add height really only pumps the back up a bit and the front down, making it uncomfortable. The visors are so small they only help if it's 12 noon during the summer. Both seating and visors are something I'll look at specifically in my next car.”

Anonymous, MN (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The car is noisy from wind and road sounds at highway driving.”

Anonymous, NY (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Although i purchased the Corolla with 145000 miles, it is quieter than our Scion xD, more comfortable to drive, and is more economical. The steering and ride are superior to the xD. The only downside is that the Corolla CE doesn't have power windows and there is an occasional rattle from the driver's window mechanism. Both my wife and I prefer to drive the Corolla than the xD for long (or short) trips. We also prefer to take trips in our 1999 Toyota Avalon to either the xD or Corolla; but, I un”

MIKE E., FL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“best seats for an aging back”

Anonymous, ON (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Window driver's door noisy. Pushed on handle to close but doesn't all the way.”

Anonymous, TX (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The air conditioner quickly cools the cabin, even the back seat. The seat adjustment allows my short legs to reach the pedals without cramping my body at the steering wheel. Love everything about the car.”

Anonymous, GA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are very good. Ride is bumpy. Noise is a little more than I would like.”

JAMES W., WI (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The seats could have better support and comfort.”

GERALD K., MO (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Insufficient leg room in both front and back seats”

Anonymous, IL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“No tilt to the wheel. Limited ability to adjust seating position; no lumbar support. Pretty uncomfortable.”

Anonymous, PA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“It's a little noisy at freeway speeds but not something I complain about. At 11 years old and 63,000 miles the drivers seat cushion is starting to loose some of it's firmness.”

MARK R., CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Not very comfortable for long trips. Some buttons and interior feel cheap”

KYLE P., OR (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Seating is generally comfortable with adequate support; fatigue on long trips is minimal. AC and heating systems are very good at cooling or heating the cabin in a short time and maintaining desired temperature. Ride quality is okay but could be better. Tends to be somewhat stiff and choppy at times.”

Anonymous, OH (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The ride is very good - the car absorbs bumps in the road very well. The seats, climate control, and noise isolation are all good.”

ERIC J., IL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are good for handling.”

RICHARD S., TX (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“the seals around the back doors are loose in one area and when I asked if this could be fixed, I was told they would have to be completely removed and replaced. there is some noise when driving but not that big of a noise that I cannot hear traffic.”

Anonymous, MD (2005 Toyota Corolla)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“11 years and 315,000 km later I still love this car. Have not spent more than $250/ year other than tires and it just keeps running. I paid $25,000 so that's less than $2,500 a year for a lot more than just basic transportation. The car still looks like it came out of the showroom, paint is really good, still sparkles, interior shows a little wear, mostly on the carpets (winter here doesn't help). Couldn't ask for better value. This car is a gem!”

BARRY M., ON (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“This car is a solid. I have only had to do minor repairs (normal wear and tear) since I purchased it brand new. Very reliable and gets great gas mileage. I plan to keep it until it is dead.”

JESSE E., NC (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“This is my third Toyota brand vehicle that I have owned, reliability is fantastic, only normal expected service repairs on all three cars. My present 2005 Toyota has over 130,000 miles on it and still going strong. Everything is still working. My last Toyota had 250,000 miles on it and was still running very good for its age and high mileage.”

BERNIE G., NY (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“I've never put any serious money into this car...I bought it used...it had 11,000. Miles on it...I drove it for 5 years....gave it to my son & wife ...they drove it for 4 years...they gave it back this year(2016) so his sister could have it! She is a new driver and it's her car now...running quite well! Our mechanic says it will rust out before the engine goes! Love it and am actually considering getting another one for myself again!!”

MAGGIE C., PA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Low purchase price and low operating costs. A reliable automobile. I have no plans to trade in car. It's a keeper.”

ROBERT W., ON (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“reliable, good economy, excellent visibility.”

TERRENCE W., BC (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Reliability”

ROBERT A., CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Excellent reliability. In over 10 years, the only expenditure other than tires & routine maintenance is an A/C compressor, which went wrong a few months after moving from cold Upstate NY to hot Southern California.”

JEFF B., CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Bought for a commuter car; great gas mileage, reasonably comfortable ride and great in all types of weather.”

Anonymous, VT (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“195,000 miles and still running nicely”

Anonymous, PA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“VERY GOOD VALUE; HELD UP GOOD WITH NO MAJOR PROBLEMS; LOOKS LIKE NEW AFTER 11YEARS”

W R., IL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Best car ever, never has to repair anything. The bad thing about this cars is that you can feel the smallest rock on the road.”

Anonymous, FL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“a ggod solid compact dependlablecar”

D P., MA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Decent car for decent price but do not expect satisfaction and the braking distance was not great.”

Anonymous, CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Buy it”

Anonymous, PA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“It's really dependable. I wish that it had old style bumpers, the plastic put on many new cars is not adequate.”

Anonymous, CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“120K miles and another 130K miles in tow behind our moterhome with out any major problems”

BRUCE E., NY (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“We've placed almost 190,000 miles on it and it still runs great and looks pretty great too.”

MARC M., IL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“I purchased the car used in 2012. Car had been stolen and recovered, and was being sold off by insurance company. Cost was about $6,000. Great car.”

Anonymous, NS (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“I was cheated by Bohn Brothers Toyota on the price of the vehicle, but the vehicle has not given me any trouble and I would purchase it again at a better price than what I paid for it. The vehicle isn't bad, it was the dealership.”

RHONDA H., LA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Not a sexy car or super comfortable, but the most reliable and trouble free car we've ever had. Has good pick up, handles smoothly.”

Anonymous, MO (2005 Toyota Corolla)

Anonymous, WA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Paid $6,000 for it in 2008 with over 60,000 miles on it. Put over 230,000 miles on it since. No problems. Great value!”

GERARD M., PA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Very few problems over all. A good value and economical operating costs for a sedan.”

Anonymous, CA (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The car has been very affordable, with excellent fuel efficiency (for a non-hybrid) and mostly low maintenance costs.”

Anonymous, ON (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Is a decent car for what we paid for it. Has surface rust and would be to expensive to repair.”

JANS R., OH (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“the car is very consistent in being repair free, except for normal wear and tear due to age. It still has good pick-up, looks good and is very easy to repair. I did have to have the exhaust system totally replaced, and all brakes replaced and two new sets of tires over the 10 years time. It is reliable in cold Wisconsin winters and starts every time.”

Anonymous, WI (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“The Corolla is nothing fancy (this is our third) but it is very reliable and they run forever”

Anonymous, WI (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“good, reliable and cost efficient”

DAVE G., ON (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“This 2005 Corolla, part of the 2004 to 2008 series, are very reliable Corollas; is true that the newest Corolla, looks better, is bigger, I like it really, but, it also has Electronic Brake Force Distribution and ABS, similar to the 2008 Highlander Hybrid, and is a mystery if it is going to be a headache after the basic warrant is over, requiring unscheduled repairs for its ABS accumulator and other expensive parts, most of us can't afford. We wan to keep our Corollas, for as long as we want an”

PABLO R., PR (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“Outside of the airbage issue (caused by the supplier), and a dead battery, I"ve had no problems with this car.”

Anonymous, OR (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“It's a steady, reliable car to drive around town. Will do well on long trips but not comfortable for trips over 3 hours. But it goes on and on with minimal care.”

EDWARD M., FL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“For the money, this car was well worth it overall. Very rarely has had problems”

“Value is good for what we have received as a riding machine.”

R C., MN (2005 Toyota Corolla)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“It's style is simple but nice, the spoiler in the rear adds to its nice look. It never looks outdated and taking care of the paint keeps it looking contemporary and new.”

EDWARD M., FL (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“I had a 95 Corolla and never failed to get compliments on the way it looked; the 05 Corolla is a dull, boring-looking "granny" car; the 16 Corollas are so ugly, especially in front, that I probably will not buy another until that changes.”

Anonymous, NC (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“I like the aerodynamic style of my car. The new Prius is even better.”

RAFAEL H., TX (2005 Toyota Corolla)

“GREAT STYLING; SOMETIMES POOR VISIBILITY WITH PILORS”
