Roomy inside without feeling large outside, the Toyota Corolla is also impressively quiet. Corolla also has excellent fuel economy, while still posting good acceleration times, handling competently and providing a comfortable ride. The one drawback -- some of our drivers were not comfortable with the driving position. Overall, though, the Corolla is a fine choice.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

What Owners Say

“Vehicle is fun to drive tight turns, great handling. OK acceleration. But great for tight turns and round abouts.”

Anonymous, MB (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“bad road traction”

DAVID S., RI (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Handles great and accelerates great.”

DAWN K., IN (2006 Toyota Corolla)

DAVID L., NM (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Often on the highway the car vibrates at 50+ mph.”

Anonymous, MA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“good reliable car”

GREG S., NE (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Highway handling in my opinion is more difficult than it should be.”

Anonymous, WI (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Accleration is good handling is good. However their is rough idle and car briefly hesitates when pressing the gas. Like it wants to quit running. Hard to start at times.”

Anonymous, AL (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“I drive very conservatively (which is why my MPG is quite good). If I had to push this car, I would not be as satisfied, because the acceleration would not be great.”

DAVID B., NC (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“The handling is very good in a neutral way, meaning that it is easy to drive.”

Anonymous, WA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Handling stinks compared to our 1993 Saturn. Acceleration is modest at best.”

Anonymous, NC (2006 Toyota Corolla)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“The driver seat brackets that connect the seat to the car, corroded”

Anonymous, MA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“AC leaks interior”

Anonymous, HI (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“EXCELLENT air conditioning! You get very cold air, very fast!”

JEFF J., ON (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“This car has over 200000 miles to date . It has been checked repeatedly by mechanics who have found NO issues front to back. I change fluids regularly and repair quickly anything that could or does need replacement.”

COLLEEN C., CO (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“The ride is only fair as you feel more bumps and vibrations from the road.”

JACKSON B., GA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“In the last few days the AC failed when I was driving to and from VT-PHL. The car interior registered 103 and was extremely uncomfortable. This is the only thing that has gone wrong in ten years!!”

Anonymous, PA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“You feel every bump that you drive over.”

Anonymous, PA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats uncomfortable on long trips. Cabin noise at highway speeds make hearing the radio nearly impossible. Minor items on dashboard (clock and control illumination) failed but I at least was able to repair the clock (bad solder joints -- a manufacturing defect). I suspect the failure of dash control illumination is also due to poor soldering. Climate control is OK but A/C has never been able to keep up with very high temps. The ride is not well-controlled over rough pavement or expansion joints”

Anonymous, NC (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“seats, climate control, ride, are all average, road noise is above average.”

Anonymous, SK (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats could have used more back support Admits a little too much noise (Wind, road) Neither is major”

STEVE-JEANNE F., NY (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“I find the cabin noisy-difficult to hear music, etc.”

ANNE M., NS (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Car is not as refined as Camry - ride is stiff and bumpy, noisier. But it's an incredibly reliable econobox.”

D A., WA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“I am the primary driver. Getting in and out of this car is a problem for both of us. My husband is 85, and I am 81. This car would be better for a younger small family. It is very noisy, so radio, and conversation is very hard to hear, we are both hard of hearing.”

MARCIA D., CA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“I am over 6 feet tall and find the reach to the steering wheel is uncomfortable. Either I have to sit too close to reach the steering wheel and my legs are a bit cramped, or I sit back and have quite a reach.”

DAVID B., NC (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are very uncomfortable .... Ride is a bit noisy and bumpy”

Anonymous, MI (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Mostly good but have to admit that I drove a friend's Buick Regal and it was a bit more comfortable. Mine isn't bad; hers is just a bit better.”

MARY H., KS (2006 Toyota Corolla)

STU R., RI (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“it works as advertised all the time. change the oil put decent tires on it and drive it.”

A B., CA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Great price, low maintenance and reliability.”

Anonymous, NJ (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“very reliable. little spent on upkeep.”

Anonymous, VT (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“I don't drive a lot so my car's mileage is still pretty low, around 39K, but for a ten year old car, it's needed very little maintenance. I've replaced the battery and the tires once each but even not driving it much I would have expected more problems than I've had over the course of a decade. I've had two or three actual maintenance problems that cost a few hundred dollars to fix, one recall (airbag) and one problem that wasn't a recall but was a notification and fixed for free, and other th”

Anonymous, NC (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Got an excellent price from an internet dealer - very reasonable and best offer received. Very happy with car.”

WALTER W., CA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Our Corolla is a light-weight, but driven with tact and care, it operates just fine. The engine and indeed the entire drivetrain has been especially smooth and reliable. It does have a problem with road noise and could use more sound dampening insulation.”

Anonymous, ID (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Very dependable with usual maintenance”

Anonymous, TX (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Outside of normal maintenance, I've spent less than $1500 on repairs in 10 years of ownership. That kind of reliability is true value.”

Anonymous, IL (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“reliable -but can be noisy due to belt issues”

G S B., NY (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“The Corolla has nearly 200,000 miles on it . . . without having had any major problems. That's a great value by my standards.”

Anonymous, CA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Exceptional value for price. Excellent MPG for a non-hybrid. Exceptionally reliable and cost effective.”

DREW R., PA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Low cost upkeep.”

JAY Y., FL (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“So far it has cost me about $1400 a year, that's a little over $100 a month, not bad for a car that has not left me in the cold anyplace. And it still will probably last me at least another 5 years”

ANA R., NV (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“1. persistent problems with fuel inejction and/or exhaust system, lea to premature failure of catalytic converter (one large piece, very expensive to replace) 2. body paint of very poor quality, chips easily with debris from regular highway driving”

Anonymous, NC (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Good Things are style of car. Bad Things are Blind spots such as the Rear of the vehicle is sits highier than the front making it difficult to see backing up and on either side of vehicle for on coming traffic, obstacles etc.”

Anonymous, AL (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“A very reasonably priced car with few, if any, problems.”

M S., IL (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“Bought it in 2008 for $12,000 and haven't had a problem since.”

DENNIS P., WA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“The traction on wet roads is so bad I tried the most recommended tires and they still would spin on acceleration.”

DAVID S., RI (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“This is the most perfect car I have ever owned requiring almost no maintenance costs.”

COLLEEN C., CO (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“It's been a great car. Inexpensive to maintain.”

SCOTT E., IL (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“We bought the 2006 Corolla with insurance money when our 2001 Civic was totaled while parked. While the Corolla is a good reliable car, it is unexciting and bland to own and drive. We miss the Civic.”

JOHN A., CO (2006 Toyota Corolla)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“The paint has turned chalky on the hood and on the top”

Anonymous, UT (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“1. It is very difficult to parallel park this vehicle because of the rounded rear end. It is very difficult for me to determine where the car ends. 2. The front, driver's side pillar blocks my view, especially for left turns.”

S C., CA (2006 Toyota Corolla)

“just not particularly stylish but then, who cares really?”

Anonymous, CA (2006 Toyota Corolla)
