Combining the practicality and frugal fuel economy compact-sedan buyers want with more interior room, upgraded amenities, and a sorely needed shot of style, this generation Corolla is a reasonable alternative to a midsized sedan. Slightly larger than the outgoing model, Corolla has a surprisingly spacious rear seat with ample leg room. Despite the bump in size, the car remains small enough for easy maneuvering and parking.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“the CV transmission deliver excellent highway mpg, but in town the transmission is sluggish.”

Anonymous, OK (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“I experience (and I see others do too online) an occasional hesitation when accelerating from a stop when turning) Personally I feel that can be dangerous. I gave it high marks for accelerating and handling because other than that occasional hesitation, it performs well”

KIRK C., MO (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The Handling and acceleration are both excellent, all my friends are impressed of it very quick acceleration when needed.”

HENRY W., ID (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“This car has a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). I was somewhat leery about this, because I had read bad reviews about cars with this type of transmission, but I am completely satisfied with this one. The acceleration is adequate and the "shifting" is unobtrusive and seamless.”

LARY H., OR (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The CVT transmission took a little while to get used to. The engine revolutions was not always as expected.I thought the CVT would be lackluster but surprised me by being peppeir than expected and giving better fuel economy.”

Anonymous, BC (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“This car handles like a sports car, and provides the best of both worlds between economy and performance.”

DALE F., CO (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Hard to fit into Parking spaces, doesn't turn or corner well, I'm always near missing adjacent cars... Might be my driving”

PAMELA G., OR (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Love the CVT”

R T., CA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“acceleration is reasonable in eco mode, better in sports mode. Handling could be improved.”

HENK G., WA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“When in ECO mode, the acceleration can sometimes be dangerously slow. For example, if I am trying to pullout into traffic, the car will accelerate so slowly that I almost get into accidents with approaching vehicles.”

CHRIS H., UT (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Acceleration is decent, but not great. Road noise is fairly pronounced. Otherwise it handles all right. Feels somewhat cramps and driver seat. I'm 6'2", and often will hit my head on the door frame just by turning my head. Also don't care for the seat pump to adjust the seat height up and down.”

ERIC W., FL (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Seems to rev too much. TERRIBLE in the snow.”

CRISTIN H., MA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The CVT transmission performs very well, acceleration is good and the transmission shifts smoothly so you never really notice the gears changing.”

RICHARD T., DE (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“A lot of road noise in the cabin”

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“It has the very best CVT (Continuously Variable Transmissions); I would not have a car without CVT.”

JON F., IN (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The CVT and on MPG display make this car very easy to hyper-mile on my commute. Easily getting 40-41 mpg.”

BRAD A., IA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Acceleration, braking, climate control”

JOSEPH B., MA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Despite the rear view camera, blind spots (front and rear due to roof posts and headrests) are very bad especially when backing and sometimes when pulling forward into traffic or on a turn.”

GREGG S., OH (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“suspension is firm and holds road well, a bit too stiff for comfort”

JEFF W., NY (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“I find it does not handle well when it is windy.”

LESLIE D., NB (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“acceleration could be improved”

GEORGE V., IA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Only have 1 complaint, the front defogger isn't powerful enough and doesn't clear window satisfactorily. Ride is fine; when traveling & driving, need to stop & stretch. Are there more comfortable seats, in terms of needing the stop to stretch less often?”

SUSAN K., NY (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats could be more comfortable, Steering requires too much attention (sensitivity). Noise is acceptable, but could be better damped especially on noisy, rough road surfaces.”

HENK G., WA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The AC is amazing its like being in front of a giant fan-------heat is not as good.”

JOSEPH S., MD (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“This car is "tinish" meaning it does not have a solid feel. It is a noisy and in comfortable ride. I do not see as well as I do from a larger or higher automobiles.”

DONNA B., GA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“It is more noisy and the ride is not as smooth as other cars I've had, which doesn't bother me, however. The acceleration is excellent.”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“This car is great for my 5'4" wife, but lacks enough legroom in the driver's seat for my 5'11" body. It's okay for short trips but long ones get painful. Otherwise my wife and I are very satisfied with the car. :)”

DONALD L., WA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The driver's seat area is extremely limited on size and adjustments and therefore not very comfortable.”

Anonymous, NM (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“I'm a big guy and Corolla isn't, seating can be a bit uncomfortable especially in the back.”

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“At my age comfort is important. It is so comfortable, I can drive all day and not get tired.”

RAYMOND G., BC (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“it is not a luxury car. so the ride is a little rough and noisy, at times.but it is okay.”

SUSAN C., FL (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“There is a lot of engine noise when accelerating”

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“a little noisy.”

VICKIE A., AZ (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Road noise is more than I like”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Fairly noisy, otherwise fine”

PAMELA G., OR (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are fine for shorter drives. Longer drives are not as comfortable. I get stiff on longer rides.”

WILLIAM C., TN (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The automatic climate control maintains a precise and steady temperature..”

JON F., IN (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Really like the in dash navigation, phone controls and back up camera. Car is comfortable and easy to maneuver and park. Also like the styling and interior finish including leather type seats.”

MAVIS F., ON (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“there are few adjustments to be made both in terms of head rest and seat shape for persons of varied height, leg needs etc. Also the seat shape is not ergonomic and there are insufficient ergonomic adjustments. I routinely have lower back pain, neck pain and hand after driving this vehicle and am not finding suitable solutions. Finally, the newer steering wheels are thicker. Perhaps more sporty?? but for a petite person as I am, my hands become tired using this wheel.”

REGINA H., WA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The "Auto" climate control only works with the dashboard vents which blow right in both the driver & passenger's face. The only way to stop the wind in the face is to have the air on the floor which takes off the automatic temperature control. The Owner's Manual indicates the "Auto" will still work but it doesn't seem like it. The fan never turns down.”

LINDA F., CO (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“seats very uncomfortable and even tho I am tall I have had to put in a cushion to sit hight enough. This was a used car when I bought it and came with this problem”

Anonymous, WA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“comfort in arm rests is 'okay' for value, sun visors are way to short and do not expand.”

PAM M., CA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“There is more wind noise at highway speeds that I would have expected”

KEN I., GA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Quite a bit of road noise is transmitted to the cabin on all but smooth roads. Roads seams come through loudly and as harsh knocks. Climate control is excellent.”

J B., PA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“There's not much noise control”

MARCIE F., WA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The ride is quite stiff and noisy.”

GEORGE A., QC (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The seats are very comfortable but the noise level inside is unusually high. I keep checking to make sure the windows are closed.”

SHEILA A., NC (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“I am tall so I have to "fold" myself into the car, but then there is plenty of leg room.”

DAVID B., IA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Back of driver's seat could use more support.”

Anonymous, NY (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Car has "leather" seats which are very hot in the summer. I will never buy this type of seats again.”

NANCY R., OH (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are very comfortable. I have been told that the back seats are more comfortable and roomy than this person had ever seen.”

Anonymous, NL (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The driver's seat is extremely uncomfortable, even with use of the adjustments available.”

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“interior needs to be more isolated from road noise and it could use a better antenna.”

ANDY G., NC (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The Corolla is a modestly priced vehicle, as cars go. It is generally comfortable, handles very well, gets excellent gas mileage, & generally does what is needed. The touchscreen is bad -- radio-tuning does not respond well, & the screen is almost impossible to read if the sun is out. It's a bit noisy to drive (road noise), but I have never owned a luxury car, so I don't really notice. The seats were very comfortable to begin with, but after 50,000 miles, they have deflated a bit...”

KATHRYN M., MI (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The driver seating is one that my wife actually enjoys being in”

Anonymous, ME (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“seats are not comfortable on long trips.”

S I., PA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Accelerator lunges a bit from a stop. Must change radio stations frequently to keep from listening to static. The roominess of my 2015 is far superior to my previous 2006 Corolla, however my 2006 had automatic lights as a standard feature, but my 2015 does not. Road noise is less in my 2015 than in my 2006, but still needs improvement. The seats are better in my 2015 than in my 2006, but still need some improvement (ok for short trips but not pleasant for long ones). Overall, it's a good car fo”

“exceptional fuel MPG”

TERRY S., NV (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“It was well equipped for the price and has provided enjoyment for my son who is the main driver”

CHRIS W., GA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“This car bought used is a great value. I have the S plus trim. New it is fairly expensive but I purchased it with 9,000 miles. Toyota dealers in the Southeast practice very deceptive practices when selling new cars with thousands in fees. The first owner of my car paid for all those fees ( window VIN etching, paint protection, and all the other rip offs). I would never buy a new Toyota due to dealer practices.”

MIHAI G., FL (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“How anyone could want a better car this the Corolla, is hard to imagine. It is so dependable, comfortable, and low cost to operate. Best car (to date) that we ever had (including two Mercedes and two cadillacs.”

RAYMOND G., BC (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Both the car just as the new models were coming out and the dealer was wanting to clear out last years models. After checking Blue book, USAA and other sources this Corrola was a very good deal.”

Anonymous, ME (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Very reliable”

Anonymous, NS (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The Corolla is not an exciting car, but it drives well, is comfortable, has plenty of space, and has been reliable. What else could you want in a small commuter car?”

Anonymous, MO (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“I researched the price and was able to get a very good deal--I got the sport version for what the CE would have cost.”

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Exceptional gas mileage....above and beyond the ratings or expectations.”

Anonymous, VA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“The seats stain terribly from WATER”

CRISTIN H., MA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“The cloth seats stain easily and affect the overall look of the inside of the vehicle. By stain easily, I mean they stain just from water getting on the seat. It's a disappointing feature in a car with mostly great qualities.”

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“New body style, features, comfort, fuel economy, interior trim and accessories”

JOSEPH B., MA (2014 Toyota Corolla)

“Very good design was very good looking.and very roomy for this price range”
